I disagree tho with the notion of "reinventing the wheel". Look at the leaps and bounds 2K has made between NBA 10 to 11 and from 11 to 12. Each time done within a year's development. There's no excuse for EA whatsoever, clearly they do it on purpose (no need to cos we have exclusive license and people will continue to buy anyway so why over-do anything). And APF 2K8 is STILL technically far superior, so much they have in the game that EA constantly pretends they don't have time to do.

Its interesting that this is what EA seems to think when you compare it to NBA 2K11, which is widely regarded as one of the best recently released sports games. NBA 2K also doesnt have any competition (EA hasnt had a basketball game for a few years iirc), yet NBA 2K has progressed while Madden hasnt
 
drd23, it's unfortunately true as some former EA employees have talked about that being a kind of policy they have -- don't ever make a game with everything in it, because then you dont have any new features/gimmicks to 'sell' the next year, especially in this full exclusive period where your product is guaranteed. They always fall on presenting a new 'three year' cycle to string consumers along. Kinda like an AFL team who keeps signing a new hope coach who says "we are looking at it like a five-year plan to success".

But if you go back to pre-exclusive days, there were a ton of top NFL games, by various companies, and Madden wasn't often the best selling one, but they worked hard to keep up, and constantly improved and innovated, till they wound up around 2004-ish as the #1 NFL IP. That period of time (late 90's early-mid 00's) was the best for football games, so many of them had so many innovations and upgrades yearly. But you look back at Madden from 2006 onwards, it's basically been the same shit engine, style, stripping of features, adding stupid gimmicks, etc.
 
I play madden for franchise mode. Franchise mode is still probably going to be broken with teams never bothering with upgrading or signing depth players, not getting players based on the coach's settings, coaches meaning nothing, players having pre-determined potental and a whole lot more.

I like that feature (well, the potential part of it at least)
But, I think they need to make slight changes to this.

I don't like the idea of someone winning the superbowl year in year out, putting rookies on the field, dominate and they lead to become stars.

It'd be shit if you could get a Hall of Fame QB with Mr Irrelevant.

What I don't like is that they show you what it is, after drafting, and it's stagnant.

They need to do 1 of 2 things.

1) Change it so there are no pre-determind drafts.

Sure, keep John Smith as a 99 potential QB, but don't throw him into the same draft class. Allows someone to just make a cheat sheet for every single draft class.

Make it random, John Smith could be in any draft, any time, or something.

2) Make up random stats for each draft.
In 1 draft Robert Jones could get the top A potential rating
While in someone elses Robert Jones is F potential.

In all, I think the potential is good, because without it, 1 person can create super-teams with running up the score and stats. But having pre-determined drafts ruins it.

THey need to mix it up with it, as my 2nd options indicates.

EA's current offline franchise is perfect. No need to worry about online franchise having the same, because the odds are EA for M13 will be having just one franchise mode, where you can fill it up with humans (thus making it 'online') or leave it full of CPUs (thus making it 'offline').

EA are very aware of this concept and have acknowledged it's in their eventual plans.

APF 2K8 is still better than M12, doing all the things that TSS often whine about lacking from Madden.

There's a guy who i was helping with his ratings. His site developer is a friend of John Madden's daughter (who owns the rites to the Madden name), and he recently just had a job interview with Josh Looman and Donny Moore, to join EA to do M13 ratings.

He said recently that 1) EA have changed the formula for how the overall ratings work, and 2) that there's PR pressure from within EA's suits all the time to ensure high profile players have better ratings than real life. This guy uses Combine and pro-day results, as well as 'game speed' film analysis, to get accurate figures for players physical attributes in speed, acceleration, jumping, strength, agility. PR pressure involves bumping up their OVR, or when they start performing well in the NFL, jacking their speed up so they are 'stars' in Madden.

Recent example...

Peyton Hillis:
Madden 09.......76 speed, 62 acceleration.
Madden 12.......87 speed, 91 acceleration.

People want their teams star performers to be good in the game.

I was in the 4th quarter of a game
and I had to leave for work straight after it finished.

Hated that finish.

I won 33-7, but it was the longest 30 seconds ever.

I was happy up 26-7 (having just gotten a safety), I run it off right tackle, and go up 33-7 and after the kick return, there was 29 seconds left.

This is what went down.

Garh, pet peeve. People who don't know a thing about football, and just take someone out of their real position 100% of the play because it works in madden.

Thankgod for the new ratings. negative on 2 of the 3 options.
Hopefully those ratings lead to him not been given games with people like me in the future.

Vs the Lions of all things.

Though, it got me 2 new trophies (AP trophy of 80 yard + T, and Arian Foster for 231+ in a game [nice I landed right on 231 off 15 carries thanks ot that last run]) So who am I to complain :p
 
Theres alot im starting to dislike.

The passblocking is basically ****ed. Every time I run a pass play against the cpu ive got a guy running untouched (with just a 4 man rush) into the QB.


The 'real life like' presenation features are annoying. Theres no point highlighting the offensive stars if you highlight the same 2 players every game, with the exact same clip. Thats just annoying. If i have to hear about Nnamdi being 'cerebral' one more time im gonna jump on the ****ing thing.
 
Yeah, throwing deep progressing routes is a bitch against the CPU.
Zone awareness is too much, and passing proper throws is a bitch

Basically have to go curls, drags and slants now.

D is just calling zone, what happene to man?

I hate hearing every game about how great Roddy White is, perfect mix of speed size blah blah blah.

I always control my DT and pass rush, but it's getting annoying when I have Ray Edwards going for Michael Strahan's sack record right next to me.

I think he got Cam Newton 5 times alone.

Sacks are too easy, and passing is too hard.

Well, there is one positive. It's not madden 08 paass blocking (QB could reach that 10 second stay in pocket trophy easily, even if it was 5 man protection vs a 5 man rush)
 
Like i thought, give it a week or two, once people start figuring it out, people start finding it a pile of crap again. Or, the same kind of crap as used to in previous version.

Hopefully, there's a Backbreaker-2 soon or a miracle APF 2K12.
