Expansion List of Suns who do better after they leave

Remove this Banner Ad

Impressive effort by the OP. Tried to be either smart or funny and ended up being neither.

golf fall GIF

Highlighting the very real and very serious issue about Suns player retention.

Also highlighting how good they could/would be if they kept their good players.

An ongoing issue that is an existential threat to the club and a black stain on the concept of a national competition.

But sure its not important

You don't think winning a flag (or two) is "doing better"???

Not really. Jack Redden won a flag with us, and he's no better player than he was at the Lions. His best individual footy probably came around 2011-2013. He played 129 games for the Lions for 44 wins and has played 116 for us for 74. If for some reason he went back to the Lions he would play the same role he does for us, except he would be supporting Zorko, Neale, McLuggage etc. instead of Shuey, Yeo, Kelly.

Steven May was a gun at GC make zero mistake about that. He's only 5 wins away from the 38 he got in 123 games with the Suns after 52 with the Dees. Look at Harris Andrews. He started out in a garbage team and started for forge a reputation as a top key defender. Now the Lions are a top 4 side and he's a regular in the AA side.

He's better off!

Serious lack of English comprehension on here.

Meanwhile

Wright is leading the Coleman and Brodie is a Brownlow chance.

Hilarious

So may no better off at demons???

''Player is better off after leaving perpetual cellar-dwelling basket case for team that is actually half-decent'' is both an incredibly obvious take that is not worth even pointing out whilst simultaneously being overly reductive and not necessarily true?

Kade Koladjashnij and Keegan Brooksby got to move from the Gold Coast Suns to teams that actually made finals, but were they ''better off''? I mean, no, because they only played like two more games?

Shit opinion would not read again.

"Do better" includes playing finals and winning flags. Not just individual performance.

And if you think Wright is no better at Essendon you really are clueless.
Hes been miles better at Essendon. He's averaging 3 goals a game this season... In the bottom side . And leading the Coleman.

Keep it up though. Terrific opinions.
If this is your basis on "who has done better" pretty much every player that has ever left Gold Coast has "done better."

Your post title is worded incorrectly if you are bringing in team success as a factor for "being better". Hence why you believe there is a lack of comprehension. Maybe your title should have been "List of players who have not necessarily played better for their new team, but have reaped the rewards of leaving the Gold Coast."

Or maybe we should factor in more irrelevant things when discussing the quality of footballers... things like they have got to come home to their families and are enjoying more weekend time, or that they have been able to earn more income.

Out of the OP I only really agree with Brodie, Wright, Scrimshaw (though he only left after two seasons) and Lyons.

All of Prestia, Lynch and May were really good players at the Suns, they just got into better club situations. Maybe May's playing better at Melbourne but I don't think the Richmond versions of Prestia and (especially) Lynch are much better than the Gold Coast ones.

Dixon and Saad? I think you under-rate their performances up on the Gold Coast. They were both good players before leaving, and I'm not convinced they've improved much.

O'Meara? Maybe, but he only had two seasons at the Suns and in those two seasons he looked like he would potentially be the best player in the comp. And while he's not exactly a shit player, I wouldn't say he's an exceptional one either.

Ah Chee? I guess he's getting games at Brisbane but he's hardly a star there.

Martin? Still basically the same player at Carlton that he was at the Suns.

Hall? He had good patches at Gold Coast too. And the role at North he's had success with isn't really one that most sides would want and frankly seems an easy one to play if you have a decent skillset.

Hickey? I guess, but he only played two seasons up there as a rookie. Similar case to Caddy, it's perfectly plausible they would've improved naturally had they stayed anyway.

McKenzie? Maybe. Port McKenzie is a very different player to Gold Coast McKenzie. Probably more solid at Port though yeah.

Lynch is no better at Richmond, nor is Prestia.
May was a gun at Gold Coast before leaving for Melbourne.
O'Meara's best was at Gold Coast before his injuries.
Martin has done stuff all at Carlton.
Wright is no better at Essendon.
Hall is no better at North and Dixon no better at Port.

Shit thread, would not read again.
Is that the same Prestia who won our B&F in our premiership year in 19?

May was a gun at the Suns.

Probably getting more recognition at the Demons, but playing just as well as he played at the Suns.

As for Martin, for one thing, he ain’t got better at the Blues.

Brodie
Lynch
Prestia
Scrimshaw
May
O'Meara
Lyons
Ah Chee
Martin
Wright
Hall
Dixon
Hickey
McKenzie
Saad
I think Lynch, O'Meara and Martin are highly debatable.
Lynch version at the Sun's would be every bit as good as Richmond version.
Martin IMO better at the Sun's than Blues.
O'Meara was tracking to be elite at the Sun's, never really developed at the Hawks.

Lyons was already very good at the Sun's. Just a stupid list management decision to let him go.
May was also very good at Sun's. Feel that call is unfair.
Brodie, Prestia, Hickey, Scrimshaw, Dixon and Ah Chee were all young players either just starting or progressing by the time they left.
Most impressive change in that list has been Brodie.

O'Meara's best was at the Suns pre-injury.
Nah.

At Gold Coast he had games of more than 25 disposals and more than 5 clearances, just 3 times in 44 games.

At Hawthorn he has done it 22 times, in 82 games.
