Not being strong on younger players coming through, I noticed Glen Colmans son is in this draft. Has anyone seen him play. Given his size is he worth out pick 50 plus?
Was overlooked completely last year, and then played with Sandringham this year in the VFL. Not worth pick 51, and we wont have any rookie spots left, so can't see us picking him up.

re Prismall and Bate

for everyone who doesn't follow the NRL during Craig Bellamy's time at the storm since 2003, he has brought in a number of players "on the scrap heap" with a role in mind for them and giving them the believe that they belong.

This is the reason they have played in 5 grand finals since 2006, also during this time they did not go out to buy a big name players, they just developed better and have 4 superstars playing during the same time, thats why they went over the cap.

but any way my point is that Macca reminds me alot of bellamy and that he could see different roles for players "on the scrap heap" so if he sees a role for bringing in any player then i trust him. Macca has a clear sight set for his team, so he must have a reason why he is looking at any player.

re Prismall and Bate
Think the situation is a bit different with Prismall. We have a heap of midfielders that could and do play the role he would fill better then he has ever done and most of them are all younger then he is. I like Bate but he is just too inconsistent and he would only be a stop gap until we draft/trade in a big bodied forward.

I think Menzel is my second most wanted player (behind Toumpas) at the moment, I really really hope we take him at 5/6. Fits our needs perfectly. Fits the 'play anywhere' model Macca likes and could be so dangerous rotating through the midfield and forward line, he is just that game changer we need. Players like Libba, Wallis, Macrae, Smith, Wines, O'rourke are/could be great but it's just hard to see them ever as that player who can just turn a game in a matter of minutes. Menzel can, whether its up forward or through the midfield he just looks like that sort of game changer, which we lack (in our younger guys, obviously we have Griffen and Cooney still). I can't believe a few weeks ago we were talking about grabbing him at 22, that would be ridiculously good but he won't get past GWS, or Geelong, or most teams for that instance.

I'm pretty confident if he slides he will be another Selwood type bargain. His knees really aren't that bad, he did them two years ago and hasn't had a problem yet. Bit harsh to say they run in the family when both him and his brothers were impact injuries. Really if he has a problem it's 1 year out of a hopefully 10+ year career for a proper knee reco and he will be fine, most players have missed a year in their career at some point.

I just really hope we don't pass on him because we will regret it in a few years (or I could be completely wrong and he could be retired in 3 years :p) also take him at 5 just because he doesn't need any more bad luck :p

Macrae/Menzel/Garner/Hunter/White yes pleasssseee

He did his knee in playing against West Adelaide in the SANFL finals this year as well. The LARS was when he was 16 though.
I wouldn't call Daniel's knee injuries impact either. The first one against Hawthorn after he tackled Puopolo, but kept his feet, happened in a twisting motion. Of the two, it's the closest to an impact.
The 2nd was the most innocuous knee i've ever seen. Pretty much just put his leg down and got injured.

On Sheahan's top 30, interesting that he has Mason Wood in there. I suppose there goes my hopes of getting him at 51 .
No Mason Shaw in there is a ridiculous oversight though, imo.

Bearing in mind I have I have seen about a 2 minutes of Shaw on the internet and this comment will come back to bite me on the bum but I saw nothing in that 2 minutes that showed me Shaw was a top 30 draft prospect :p

Prepare for your bum to be bitten, Butane :p

Only have to wait less then a fortnight to see, but I think you should take a look at his injury record in the SANFL and etc, roughly every 2-4 games he would play he would have an injury; for the past two years

Yeah but that wasn't too bad either. The one against Hawks from what I remember was impact on the side of the knee but I could be wrong, can't say I've seen (or remember) the second one though.

That is a bit worrying then but I just think his talent is worth the risk. Would love a pick in the 10-15 range as that would be better suited to take the risk but oh well I still think we should take him, I'll back the club either way though. Lets just hope Toumpas slips to 5, Stringer slips to 22 and Menzel puts his injury problems behind him hey? :p

the afl have put up a draft machine, so you can do your mock drafts. its already sucks. currently we are taking according to the combined results.
5. Whitfield
6. Dick
21. Lonergan
50. Hunter
51. Dean Kent
71. McRae
89. E. Irra
107. Haretuku
125. Tyler Blake

Shame we traded pick 71 for Tom Young when we could have got Jackson Macrae with that pick! Oh well at least we're getting Whitfield haha.

I'm hoping Mayes/Stringer/Membrey
All strong players by foot, just watched the port v dogs game; alot of terrible disposals by foot
Read some places that Stringer doesn't kick all that well, but other places read he is precise by foot
The recruiters would know, having him trained with the club
Saw Mayes results for endurance and agility; very impressive scores of 14.4 and 7.92, which I believe was faster then Hunter whom had the fastest agility at 8 seconds, not a 100% sure though
Glad to see Membrey had a 13.3 beep test to, that is real solid for someone whom plays so much close to goal whose strong over head and strong bodied

Greetings and salutations my friends.

Just popped in to let you know that a fairly strong source (although Carlton related) says that we have crossed Menzel off our list, because he will be selected by you.

Just thought you'd find it interesting.

yeh it seems that way, hopefully gws dont take him with pick 3.
heard you guys might be getting reimers. nice

Would be gone by then if you want for pick 22.
I reckon I've heard this for about 30 players - the fact is some of them have to slide. It's unlikely but definitely possible.

AH my grandma can beat that, kidding.
Where did you get that result? Was it in Victoria? That was a warm sunny day to, so that is very impressive for someone whom plays up forward.
It was on Sheahan's write-ups, and yes I assume it was the Victorian combine. Says he wants to improve his endurance but it looks pretty damn good to me.

On top of that he injured his groin this year. There was one recruiter on record as saying he'll lose 2 years out of a 10 year career due to injury, but the remaining 8 will be very good years. Given he has had multiple injuries since the LARS surgery and his brother has also had serious knee issues, I'm very wary.

Personally I'd rather Stringer - top line talent and far less of a risk, yet still may slide to our picks due to his leg.

has he also crossed stringer off the list to be selected by us by any chance?

Interesting, I've heard that we had concerns about his knee for pick 5. Obviously not having a go at you, just wondering if my source is full of shit. :p

Thanks for letting us know either way mate.

We could end up with both!! Apologises in advance if this comes across negative or sarcastic, but I can foresee us all waiting patiently for the next 5 years, waiting for the stars to align, eagerly excited for the time when Menzel and Stringer get their bodies right and take us that next step... Much like the Williams and Higgins roller-coaster that many of us have grown tired of and given up on now.
