He really should go to gaol for a long time if guilty. What a disgusting act.

If it is true that he received a standing ovation at Melbourne's season launch last night it wont be jail if found guilty, his supporters will have him
bronzed in statue form outside the M.C.G. Every club its members and supporters have got every right to show support for one of its own in difficult circumstances but a standing ovation for someone accused of a disgraceful act of violence the like we dont need in this country no matter the colour of your skin or what language you speak.

Seriously that is ****ed up. I can understand the reason why he is getting some support, the situation where his family live is complicated and there is a long history of violence. But applauding someone who is facing serious charges doesn't make anyone look good. He seriously shouldn't be subjected to this circus and neither should anyone else. He clearly won't be playing for a while so why don't they just shack him up somewhere quiet with his family until this goes through court?

You're characterising it without having been there. I seriously doubt it was all happiness and cheers in reality. If I had been there I can imagine politely clapping so as not to create an awkward and horrible vibe for the occasion - plus he is innocent in the eyes of the law at this point so being silent for him wouldn't be fair either because that's like the whole room is saying he's guilty before it's been proven.

Anyway, I think it was just an awkward situation in general and people were politely applauding in the footballing sense. Of course everybody is aware of the seriousness of the situation he's in, but that wasn't the place to take a collective stand and make a point of it. This will be sorted out at another time and place. It needn't be characterised as some sort of celebration of Liam Jurrah - that was just incidental. It was a Melbourne club night. Everything gets applause on a club night.

I think for a lot of us at Melbourne, we're only just starting to realise where Liam has come from, and how hard it has been - and continues to be. He deserves our support and encouragement, both as a person and as a player.

He has made a mistake, he'll be punished for whatever he's done - even if it's only breaching club rules - and in doing so, will pay the penalty. It's not for us to add another layer of punishment on top of that by treating him as a pariah.

Everyone deserves a second chance.

Liam “Jungarryai” Jurrah will always go by this name. Not!!!!!!! Liam “the footy star” Jurrah they are two very different worlds, the meanings of such will never compare to the true life and understanding of a young Warlpiri man!
How can you assume and make accusations about a person that has a life made up of freedom, love, caring, bonding and close family orientated connections with in his life, not forgetting the upmost respect for his cultural background and participation every year in men’s ceremonies.

Shit reply. You know what he meant and you cant answer.
The old chestnut " Innocent till proven guilty. Big difference between getting polite applause in a show of support to a standing ovation after what has been alleged.Interesting to see what you have to say if he is found guilty. Not a whole lot i bet.

It will be interesting to see what you've got to say if he's not.

An old chestnut? Presumption of Innocence is hardly an idiom. Let's hope for your sake that you are never forced to rely upon it to protect you from idle speculation!

Standing ovation? What on earth are you talking about? I was there, the applause from the crowd when he got awarded his jumper was no bigger than Jack Grimes or Jack Trengove.

Idiot

I know what he meant, and I'm not a huge fan in answering irrelevant hypotheticals.

And where are you getting this 'standing ovation' rubbish from?

What proof do you have of that?

If he's guilty he should be punished, that said I'll still support the guy... and I hope the club does no matter what the outcome.

Standing ovation was reported on SEN. All power to you for being there, you should be commended, considering you will probably be at Mount Hotham in the winter when Melbourne dish up their usual rubbish. I wont resort to name calling as you have, but i will give you a tip. Be very careful who you call an idiot brave man you are.

What is this shit?

Keyboard warrior-ism at it's finest.

Let me make this crystal clear, Liam Jurrah's alleged offending is nothing less than thuggery!! It is the sort of thuggery and violence that has come to characterise the Northern Territory and, more particularly, central Australia. The Demon's and AFL's lack of sanctions against Jurrah is a show of support for violence. It is a show of support for the perpetrators and kick in the face for the victims! If Jurrah had been playing NTFL or NEAFL with the Territory Thunder he would have been suspended until the criminal matter had been finalised. The AFL and Demon's don't have the guts to make such a decision!

Everyone tries to hide behind the cloke of culture, but the reality is that violence is the same no matter what colour your skin! I wonder what the AFL's response would be if this was a non-Indigenous player, who had become a patched member of an outlaw bikie gang, and had been charges with a violent of offence?

CULTURE DOES NOT EXCUSE VIOLENCE!!!!

A very good point, mind you I reckon AD would die in the arse if it did:D

PM Me your details and we can catch up and decide which it is, idiot or keyboard warrior.

You can't be serious?

You can't raise a reasonable point so you resort to threatening randoms?

For all you know I could be 6'5" and 100kg's.
