I don't want to put a dampner on proceeding here but I was under the impression that "mass hysteria" was well......................teeny bopper:o stuff. How embarrassing.

Dude, it's Zep. Anyone who was there and wasn't in hysterics should have given their ticket to someone more deserving.

world tour more or less confirmed now?
Britain's Daily Star newspaper said:
Led Zeppelin will announce a world tour within days following last night’s triumphant comeback gig.

Box offices are primed and ready to print millions of tickets for the shows, which will devastate those who splashed out thousands for the supposedly one-off 02 Arena concert.

Last night the rock legends played to 20,000 at the former Millennium Dome venue in London.

A ticket agent source said: “There is definitely a full tour coming. We’ve all been told to get ready for the dates to be confirmed.

“It’s expected to be within days to capitalise on the excitement of the reunion. Promoters have been falling over themselves to get the band to agree. They’re also being courted by festival bosses to headline something like Glastonbury.”

The shows are likely to be next summer after drummer Jason Bonham, 41, son of late Led Zeppelin legend John Bonham, fulfils commitments with Zepp support act Foreigner.

Last week our Playlist column revealed venues in America had been making space for a Led Zeppelin tour and the rock gods were reported to be headlining the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee next summer.

Guitarist Jimmy Page, 63, had said the initial get-together was “so exhilarating and fun that I feel I would like to do more”.

Industry sources believe lead singer Robert Plant, 59, who has enjoyed the most success as a solo artist, may be the least keen on a comeback tour.

The three surviving members of Led Zeppelin have only been together on stage a handful of times since they split 27 years ago.

None of those gigs were impressive but they shrugged off the criticism and vowed the 02 date would wow the crowd.

They last reformed in 1989 for Atlantic Records’ 40th anniversary gig in New York and in 1990 Page, John Paul Jones, 61, and Plant jammed with Jason Bonham at his wedding.

Bonham told Rolling Stone magazine that the chemistry was back from the moment they stepped into the rehearsal room together and played the haunting No Quarter.

He said: “When the riff came in there was this look that went around. It was brilliant.”

Page first hinted at a reunion in 2006 when Led Zeppelin were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame.

Their initial live shows took place around America in 1969 and the band split in 1980.

Page has been enjoying chart success this year since teaming up with American bluegrass country singer Alison Krauss, 36, for an album titled Raising Sand – a Top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic.

Wock and woll dude its Zep:rolleyes:.

You don't have to preach to me about Zed Lep matey. I was there at the beginning. I can tell you Led Zep fans are up there with some of the most condescending fans in the music world. I have met more musical snobs who luuuuuv them unreservedly than I have at Jazz and Classical music discussions who diss everything in their limited world and trust me when I say some of those people are so condescending they would not spit on you. The fans of Led Zeppelin are some the most pretentious hypocrites that have ever appeared in the world of music. They carry on as if every song that Zep has ever been put out is some homage that defies criticism and then have the bad manners to trash anything outside of there limited bubble world. Not all that Zep wrote and produced was deserving of unreserved praise or (middle aged ) hysteria. Stairway To Heaven for example has to be the biggest load of rubbish hoisted on a naive public ever. Plants voice is so butch that for Zeppelin fans to have the bad manners to chastise other artists voices is the greatest hypocritical toss in musical history. In the old days quarter of an hour long repetitious solos were the norm at live performances. "But they were oohhhh soooo talented and that is their art" the fans used to pretentiously sneer at those that were critical. I went and caught that movie on release, the one were Plants son pissed in the creek. I went with a bunch of fornicating mates who were mortified that I thought it was the biggest waste of space in musical history. Well this tosh came on Fox Classics this year, (spot the irony?) so I settled down to see if it was as bad as I remembered. Bad!!! If I was captured by the Taliban they could play that rubbish and in 5 minutes I would be converting to whatever they insisted just to never see that again.

Good on Zep for doing a charity show but as to their fans they are pretentious and hypocritical. Hysteria indeed:rolleyes:. Bay City Roller shit.

Robert Plant is a slimy ****
John Bonham man, he really sucked
Those greedy ****ers, those phoney shits
They made their money off idiots
I hate Led Zeppelin (x2)
12 dollar concerts were all the rage
They bought cocaine for Jimmy Page
"Stairway to Heaven" makes me see red
Bonzo's buried, only three more left
I hate Led Zeppelin (x2)

communication breakdown would have been a great opener, i reckon. and now that i think of it, tangerine and the battle of evermore should most definately have been in their set.

They cannot do that song without Sandy Denny. Just isn't the same.

Dont tell me

You have trouble cracking onto women, and they dont..

"to be a rock and not to roll"

Pretty well sums you up.

Has anyone heard "Hey Hey What Can I do"
It was never released on any albums and i only recently heard it after downloading it. It's probably my favorite song after Misty Mountain Hop and In The Evening.
Its got all Jimmy and JPJ on backing vocals at the end, it runs so smooth.

I believe it was a B-side to Immigrant Song, on one of their extremely rare singles. It later surfaced on the 4-CD boxset "Remasters".

I'm with you, I'm amazed it never made an album. Great song.

Good set list, but Zep being the rock God's they are cold have easily come up with an alternate set list which would have been just as good - in fact I might give it a go.

Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
Communication Breakdown
What Is and What Should Never Be
Heartbreaker
Bring It on Home
Immigrant Song
Celebration Day
Tangerine
The Battle of Evermore
When The Levee Breaks
Goin to California
Over the Hills and Far Away
Dyer Maker
The Rover
Down By the Seaside
Achilles Last Stand
In the Evening

I would have been equally happy with that.
Haha yeh that would have been just as good. That's the thing about bands like Zep, Stones, The Who, you could select an alternate list that is just as good.

God I hope they tour, I would seriously pay 500-1000 if that's what it takes

For years I've been saying Zeppelin are overrated shit. After seeing the massive reaction to them coming back last night I figured I must've missed something and decided to give them on last crack. I acquired "Mothership", their new 2 disc Best Of.

It seems I was mistaken. Zeppelin are quite awesome.

Nah, I reckon there's a holy trinity of rock'n'roll bands - The Stones, The Who and Led Zeppelin. You can make a strong case for any one of them.

... good job :thumbsu:

I didn`t find them until my late teens/early twenties ... they are the greatest

Its a song by a charming little band called screeching weasal. Now my views on the band arent that extreme, i dont even mind stairway in the right mood, but overall they are far far far too wanky to be enjoyable. 20 minute drum solo's, wailing guiatr that goes nowhere etc. Its possible to write music that shows off good guitar work yet still sounds good/fun, yet zepplin are just boring. They arent in the radiohead catagory of over rated music (no band is) but they just dont seem like anything that great to me.

well on your way then.............

$290 for a ticket and they only play 17 songs. ****ing ripoff. hate these has-been bands that think their better than they actually are by charging rediculous prices like that.

Just downloaded the gig - giving it a listen in a second. Hopefully this AUD source is decent.

Well, considering that most Zep fans (including myself) would've paid more for less music - I wouldn't call it ridiculous at all.

Especially considering the money went straight into a foundation named after the man the concert was a tribute to.

Besides - Yeah, they played 17 songs - but 17 songs by Zep is different to 17 songs by someone like The Ramones.

I would kill everyone in the world, except Bonham, Page, Plant and JPJ of course, to see them in Australia.
I discovered Zep at the start of year, and i usually go through phases which last a month or two, but i can't stop listening to them, they are absolutely amazing. Is Jason any where near as good as his dad ( haven't heard him drum yet, except on their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction)?
Page's solos are sometimes the best part of a song, they always fit in so nicely, I never used to like solos (eg. in the car i would turn down the radio etc.) but anything by Page is awesome.

Stairway is overrated, it's only the best song by a 1 mile, not 2.
Whole Lotta Love is overrated, nearly their whole catalogue rips it.

GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME

I'm listening to "How The West Was Won" at the moment. It's only 18 tracks but it's 2 and a half hours long. They don't shortchange the fans.

UpForGrabs, if the quality's decent on that version you have tell us where you got it.

So far my favourite Zeppelin song would be Rock and Roll followed by Kashmir. Although Immigrant Song is as good a live opener as you'll hear.

meh
freanzal rhomb gig you get 20+ songs for an hour and pay 20 bucks, i know what i'd rather go to.

No. John Bonham was sensational. My second favourite drummer ever (by a whisker from Keith Moon).

Yeah, it annoys me when people criticise how long solos are on Zeppelin songs for a couple of reasons. One, it was only in concert that they truly stretched things out, and two, they weren't the only band doing it. It was the era. Cream, Hendrix, Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers (and plenty of others) ALL had some pretty long stage pieces. Maybe a tad self-indulgent, but again, they weren't alone.

so you decided to make judgement on a band without hearing any of there music?

nice one :thumbsd:

I'd heard their music and didn't like it. I decided to give them another shot and now they're awesome. Happens regularly with me. At first I didn't think much of Arcade Fire, now I've put down Neon Bible as the second best album of the year.

meh

some bands like to write songs that go for over 5 minutes...
You mean 3 minutes (20x3 = 60 minutes = 1 hour).
Some of Page's live solos, although long, aren't that bad such as Dazed and Confused where he uses the violin bow on the guitar. I usually skip live 'Moby Dick' versions because they for like 20 minutes. Although Bonham is skillful and plays with passion (when he snaps his sticks in Moby Dick he plays with his hands and he cuts them open and shit from hitting the drums so hard) it is not much of a listening experience.
I can't beleive they played Trampled Underfoot, good on JPJ for keeping up :)
