NEGOTIATIONS between the Western Bulldogs and All-Australian Brian Lake hit a stalemate last night after the defender remained unsigned and in limbo. The Bulldogs were confident they had struck a lucrative four-year deal with the full-back, but mystery now surrounds why Lake has not yet put pen to paper. Lake, 27, has been offered at least $1.8million over four years, which was initially thought to be enough to secure him for the remainder of his career.

Heard the same info yesterday, so I'd assume Denham is right, this time anyway.

Blah. Bloody Greg Denham. Typical of him to write something like this. I will see what he has to say on SEN this morning.

Okay, I will give it some credence, only because you heard the same thing TCD, and I trust your info more than Denham's :)

Anyway, wonder who the two Melbourne clubs who played in finals and are circling for Lake. Collingwood and Carlton?

If true, is not good news. I had hopes a few days ago that the deal was virtually done and dusted.

Needs to be done, if we lose Lake then it is useless getting Hall as our backline will need to be rebuilt and we can't win flag next year without him. Don't know how much to read into it though coming from the biggest w***er in footy media Greg Denham.

I would jump ship. Who wants to be the tall man in a team that struggles to score at the other end.

You only beat us by a goal - with your supposed two pillars in the forwardline - so get over it. Do you think Riewoldt will cry when he loses tomorrow?

I can't believe he is still stuffing us around. He got the four years, which we were concerned about due to his dicky hip - and a huge salary increase - smacks of Judas if you ask me.

If this is a stunt Brian, you'd better keep delivering for 4 years because you are going to make it very difficult for us to keep our young guns when their contracts come up for renegotiation.

If Lake is asking way over the odds we have to let him go. Then again, this might just be Pricky Olerenshaw milking the last drop from the improved stadium deal.

Pretty sure its Ricky Olerenshaw.

Bit of a concern to the Bulldogs if your manager's name's Ricky!

If you're worried Coon Dog, then I'm worried!

I wonder if Shaun Burgoyne asking for mega bucks has inflated the market place, and had Brian and his manager question whether they sold themselves short in their negotiations with us.

IMO $450,000 over four years is a fair and reasonable deal. But if other clubs are into Lakes ear, he may be tempted to look at all available offers.

It's a worry.
