So it turns out a few ours later my source might be spot on the money

He's dreaming surely. Our forward line coach? Literally the worst area on the ground for us, thinks he's a shot at the top job? Hahahahaha. surely he said this tongue in cheek

A person I know has spoken to some of the players and the ones who he has want Hale now that Ross isn't the coach.

People who think Ross lost the players have NFI. They aren't happy about him being axed.

That is not surprising given the extent of the list turnover.
Most of the list right now wouldn’t know JL from a bar of soap.

A person i know (my boss) spoke to someone that's worked at the club for 12yrs a week or 2 ago and lets just say he didn't have many nice things to say about Ross (micromanager, toxic working environment etc. etc.). Understand that most of the players liked him but there's more to a club than the players.

The micro managing wouldn't affect the players but the assistant coaches it would.

Yeah...I dunno...that just sounds like a trope to me. Doesn't really accord with some of the more observable stuff.

Any which way that chapter is done now.

I wouldn't mind them focussing on bringing in a personally expansive and relaxed coach. Maybe that's the big ingredient Kirk brought to the footy department. By all accounts Lyon was much more relaxed as the focus went on to developing players, but he did admit on more than one occasion to be angst-driven.

Well he really didn't have anything nice to say about Ross. My boss said he was shocked at how candidly he was crapping on him.

I'm of the belief that Lyon was sacked largely due to the negative noise about him.

Given Lyon had become unpopular and was subsequently sacked, why would a candidate who is even more unpopular, like Peter Sumich even be considered?

Is that why he was sacked? Heaven help us as a footy club if popular opinion selects the coach or sacks them...surely we don't get sucked into a political democratic process re the coach apart from election of board members etc....but it does seem we are living in times where popular opinion does have an influence over matters.

I wonder if the Sumich thread will be as exciting as the Ross Lyon thread?

Heard Sumich gave an inspirational speech during the u18 carnival - which was incredible from all reports. At the very end of his speech, Sumich held up a single arrow and snapped it in two pieces. He told the team "this what happens when a team is divided", he then grabbed 40 arrows and tried to snap them and he could not. With a cold steely look he told the team "this is a team united". The players went on to win the championship.

So we win round 1 on the back of this. What’s he got in his back pocket for round 2 and the rest of his coaching career?

I don’t know Sumich from a bar of soap but he does strike me as someone who would just keep snapping arrows each weekend.

My preference would be Longmuir, just because I always liked him as a player.

While maybe it's just because I'm not from WA and have no bias, but I wouldn't have an issue with Sumich either. I said a few months back that I enjoyed his coaching of the WA U18s at the Championships, he employed an attacking game style and also played to the strengths of his players. He put them in positions to succeed, as opposed to forcing them into a predetermined role. AFL is obviously a step up from that, but I can't see why he wouldn't be successful in a Fagan type way - who looks to be a more empowering, general manager style coach. And at least we'd draft a bunch of WA kids, which would keep everyone here happy.

Just as long as it's not Brad Scott or Worsfold.

ah Chris not you too...:thumbsu:

I have an announcement.....I now seriously dislike JLo as first choice cause everybody likes him

From my belief the past 24 months have been
Bell tried getting Kelly
Kelly doesn't like Bennell
Lyon Keeps Bennell
Bell doesn't like Lyon because Lyon had more pull than Bell
Bell sees chance to get rid of Lyon
Rossich says if Lyon goes I go
2 Birds 1 Stone
Bell becomes CEO

If only belief had anything to do with facts eh?

I'm on team JLO! That being said I'll support whomever the club picks and give them a chance. If it's Sumich or Scott or Burns or whoever with the exception of Malthouse. That guy can get f'ed.

I hope that we can get JLO across and then surround him with talented, driven people who will move in the same direction with a unified purpose. We need a strong stable coaching team with a modern approach to footy and an attacking based game plan.

The new coach won't be the messiah and I certainly don't expect them to fix it all instantaneously but I hope for all our sakes we improve rapidly and play finals sooner rather than later.

I have a feeling that Freo will be a big player again this off season and hopefully address the poor depth to better cope with the injuries we seem to always get.

Maybe Belly cleans out the S & C team as well who knows. Might fix our never ending injury list year after year.

My criteria for the new coach.
1. Modern game style
2. Ability to re-invent
3. Interpersonal skills
4. Success as a coach and as a player
5. Ability to handle pressure
6. Media smart
7. Status - people need to respect him
8. Ruthless

New coach doesn’t need all of them but must be self aware to allow assistance to bridge the grap.

Anyone but Brad Scott! DOn't think I could handle watching him crack it week in week out

My heart says JLo- but my head keeps coming back to Voss- hard edge- ruthless competitor and an attacking mindset.
Hated him as a player- only because he was so good. Reckon he's ready for a second crack
