I get the impression they're not going ot play him unless they're completely over a barrel. If they we're ever going to pick him it would have had to have been in Sydney.

From now on Crackers won't get any less likely to play, and they couldn't afford to potentially undermine F1s confidence by dropping him to try Black Betty.

Short of a corky or rolled ankle to one of them, I think the 'window has passed'. If he plays now, it'll be because he's our only option.

Here it is and I felt sick when I read it. I was praying Jamie'd be back for a tilt at the finals. If we win it this year I think the person that'd be stiffest not to hold a medal would be Jamie. He'd been brilliant this season and has finally garnered a bit of the recognition he deserves.
On Spaanderman I think Leigh's probably worried about injury. Mind you he threw a stick legged beau macdonald in as a kid and it was the making of him. Ultimately though, given Crackers predisposition to injury and the fact F1 can't carry us on his own I think it could well spell trouble for us. Leigh's gotta be thinking about it now surely.

Now don't laugh, but how about Merritt. Didn't he come back and play well in the ressies this weekend.

I'd be wrapped if he was at least giving himself a chance, but I've heard they'd need a flat bed truck to get him out there :D Honestly, it's ridiculous, but he'd have to be a chance now.

I suppose the best thing about the whole situation is Dylan now knows that he's there for the full ride - if we make it, he's going all the way. He can concentrate on that now rather than worry about being chopped out a week or two early.

I've never seen Black Betty play, but his stats don't make him appear that 'twiggy'- close to 100kg. I wouldn't be too worried about injuring the big kid.

Geez, if he ends up limping his way to a medal in his 3rd or 4th game, I'm pretty sure he'd learn to live with the pain.

IMHO the window of opportunity has never been wider.
Lynch, Charman, Brennan and Leppitsch out with injuries, Brown serving 4 match suspension and White's form questionable our big man department is absolutely bare to the bone.
What's wrong with plonking Spaanderman at FF in Lynch's absence and using him as a pinch hitter in the ruck occasionally to give relief to F1 and Keating.
Merrett is back and playing and can be used as an absolute last resort if things go even further disastrously.
No one is suggesting dropping McLaren for Spaander. From here on it's up to him to support and carry the ruck responsibilities with Crackers.

Charman was just about our most obvious "missing player" on Sat night.

A few decent punches forward would have cleared the congestion and stuffed their game plan right up.

BIG loss......

I am sure that those who think Spaanderman should be given a game with the "big boys" have never seen a Suncoast Lions game.

Sure he's a big lad, but for most of the season he has been very ordinary - his last few weeks are certainly better but I am not sure he particularly likes the idea of body contact.

At this stage of his development my guess is one solid collision in a real rucking contest and he won't want to come out to play. Given time to develop he might come through, but right now a promotion to seniors might destroy him.

He's an investment in the future.
