As far as I know uncontracted. Haven’t heard any noise about him signing in the media and last year there was a bit of noise around our board that he will definitely come back to SA.

imagine both SA teams will be looking at him, especially port if we lose Powell-Pepper and/or wines should be looking for a big Mid.

Nicks is close to him and his family, so hopefully that helps get him across the line to the Crows. Very happy to give GWS their first-round draft pick back in order to make it happen.

Is he really the type of player Adelaide need?

I thought Adelaide would be set for one paced inside mids at the moment. Though he is that tall, big body you don’t currently have.

Would you better off targeting kpp and skilled outside players at the moment.

Yeah, reckon he's a sure thing to leave as I've ever seen.

Good player, barely any games at GWS last year.

More opportunity at Gold Coast, Carlton, Port or Freo even.

Those GC and Carlton midfields are starting to look a bit crowded. They’re young, but the depth looks to be building in both midfields.

And just at the Suns, they have more coming through their academy that they get to prelist, without having to draft.

At Carlton? Cripps - 195cm, Setterfield - 192cm, Kemp - 192cm and even Kennedy - 190cm - All inside mids that can play forward.
If there was a mid the CFC would look at, it would be Caldwell but even there, he may not fit into the top of our needs.

Essendon will likely be the team that's most desperate for that big-bodied mid.
They need some youthful mids over the 180cm mark with Shiel, Merrett, Parish, McGrath, Smith now the core of that midfield.

You think so?

I would have thought he’d be outside your best 22 currently, and likely to drop down the depth chart in future seasons.

Think he will get a shot early and then nail down a spot. Very talented.

Do I think he leaves? Possibly. Hasn’t re-signed early like usual with the draftees so highly likely.

Not sure he’s worth more than a late first rounder.

Ironic posters saying he played hardly any games at GWS - he played one game less than Chayce Jones in a much less talented Adelaide midfield, and he's only a first year so shouldn't expect tp play a full year! Much less the many other draftees over the last 2 years who haven't cracked a game for them. Hately is talented - hopefully he stays with GWS, but I would think that Adelaide would like a strong, tall midfielder with great endurance who might be tempted to go home. I would think either SA club would be more likely to gain his attention than a Melbourne club due to the go home factor.

Chayce Jones isn’t a good example. He’s a 180cm kid who weighed as much as wet paper when he got to the crows.

Hately was as physically ready to play first year as anyone.

the deal about him only playing 7 games is more to do with the depth of the giants midfield which would be an ongoing issue.

having said that I think it will have nothing to do with why he leaves, everything I’ve heard is that he was always going to come back to SA.

I think getting tom green makes it much harder for hately..both big bodied mids but green looks to be a super talent. Genuinely think he will struggle to get a spot in the GWS starting line up as they bat so deep. As a poster above noted and i agree, if he wanted to come back to SA i would offer the GWS 2020 1st rounder we have for him

Reckon Caldwell and O'Hallaran will make their marks and move above him in the pecking order

So would be more than happy to part with him for a 1st.
I still hold a small glimmer of hope that O'Halloran comes back one day. Liked his u18 year, really good ball user.

Ward will come back into the GWS midfield mix too after the first few rounds. A real logjam for spots and possibly the hardest midfield in the comp to break into.

We drafted a player who we always knew was going to leave us at the earliest opportunity?

Sounds legit.
To be fair, there were whispers about the same with Aiden Bonar.

It happens. Can’t say I’ve read anything else about Hately, but with the addition of Green, it was always likely to be a talking point.

Hately is worth more than that.

Sure which is why we shouldn’t be interested. We need inside midfielders but still need the right players. He’s too slow with hands in close and not body on body enough to be filling our needs.

As far as I’m aware, no one has linked him to Essendon, or any team in Victoria for that matter, so I don’t know why you’re talking him down, or commenting on his value using “we”.

Someone referred to Essendon needing him a few posts ago. Also it’s not talking him down it’s saying his tool set shouldn’t be of priority to us for what he would likely cost
