Traded Jack Steven [traded to Geelong for #58]

Just cheap underhanded tactics by Geelong to get him for nothing really. They did the EXACT same thing with Gary Ablett
Utter bullshit.

His sister was very sick and asked for a trade home in 2016. Cochrane said no. 2017 he asks for a trade again and by the time Cochrane relents his sister had overdosed and died. He had a damn good reason to leave the Suns.

Just as Kelly does to leave us this year

I know family break ups can be mentally tough, I've had one myself, but surely there is a little more to it than that?

Can't he still play at the Saints while trying to reconcile. Maybe move to the western suburbs to be closer to the kid? Moorabin is not that far away.
That Was my reaction as well. It's not drug related if that was what you were alluding too

Sick family member too apparently

Not sure on the details and anyone feel free to correct me, but effectively he'd be able to request a trade and provided an agreed minimum (that Kelly/Gaff agree to) trade criteria was met he's out. Something to that effect. In that kind of contract i can't see a player agreeing to accept blackended payments be cause you'd effectively be walking away underpaid if you walked. That's how I interpreted it anyway.

You talk about steven or Kelly?

Kelly would never agree to a backended deal under those circumstances for the reason you mentioned. He can't collect if he walks.

Players like the front ended stuff or if they're young those contracts ya mentioned.
Yeah that's what I was getting at, if the cats offered 800k a year starting next year then they have 800k in actual cap for next year. Though Gaz and Taylor signing on again the next day might have altered the equation

Just spitballing right now.
I don’t really see much of a point in a third round pick.
I would however prefer to upgrade our future picks for a major assault next year.
So, was thinking
Steven and saints 2020 2nd round
For Geelong’s 2020 1st round.
Thoughts?

Geelong are not going to downgrade their first round pick for someone who is valued a third round pick. That is just crazy stuff

Yeh I think it's killed that.

As I said, personal issue only deserve compassion when it is in Geelong's favour it seems.
No compassion for Kelly, no compassion for Steven, just highball and lowball.

Classy

We paid a second round pick for a player turning 33 start of the year. What planet are you on saying we paid nothing lol. We paid overs basically. Nobody pays high value for 33 year old players and he actually had a bad injury history at the time.

Righteo you don’t even know what the deal is but I dare say 10kg overweight mids who have played almost no football for 12 months, have an issue, are over 30 and are one 800k plus aren’t exactly attractive propositions. Your club wants him gone so it can move on.

Don’t see the outrage for John Patton and co. Any pick under 40 is just a ridiculous gamble.

Let’s wait and see. I dare say the Saints won’t just be letting him go for nothing if it wasn’t in their interests. Think they might actually be ok with it
