Bull.
No doubt you were there like many of us listening to Jack Dyers impassioned speech on preserving the history and tradition of the club.

Lol, give up the Bingo.

"“I look around today and think that they dare – dare is the word – to try and throw us out of the league. I think they must be moonstruck up the top there somewhere.

“Thank God you all turned up. I was a bit frightened that they mightn’t turn up, that there was rain or something like that. But they’re from here from all over Victoria.

“God, I hope they write about that . . . You can tell them that there’s more here this morning than those two teams that they’ve got up there in Sydney (sic). Twice as many people here . . .

“I get horrified, I can’t sleep of a night.

“I can’t watch replays if Richmond get beaten. I can’t do any of those things. I don’t even buy the paper of a Monday morning. But if they bloody well win, I’ve got plenty of them, I’ll tell you that.

“They seem to think, up there in the ivory tower, that they might have found something here. They’ll all be level down there. They’ll all be in the five, in the six.

“There’s always got to be someone last and someone second last, someone third last. And when they wake up to that, perhaps they’ll get a bit of bloody sense.

“Thank you for coming along, don’t go away and forget to put in your pockets.

“Just give up the bingo for a while and just give up those racehorses for 10 weeks, and we’ll get out of it.”

I was there mate

With my new wife and 2 year old in our arms , We were shaking the tins and going door to door of shops pubs businesses and at the set of lights on the corner of swan st and church st amongst the cars collecting money for 4 days.

I was there and my wife was a carlton supporter them days (she is well and truly a tiger now along with my 2 girls and the younger girl has met with peggy a couple of times to see if she can help with the legal stuff at the club voluntarily)

I have listened to Jack Dyer speak many times as a youngster growing up in Richmond and i can tell you right now he would say - Get it done as its about the club not the individual

Get what done?
Redevelop and relocate the stand, or redevelope and demolish the stand?

They're trying to turn a footy ground into a political statement.
Named after someone who didn't even play footy.
There's enough politics in this world already, sick of politics.
Footy is the last bastion in our lives where we can escape it.

A free for all is anyone attending punt road post match, I’m talking about any member should have some access.

The rusted on basic member cannot access post match drinks at punt road unless they up membership ....... this to me is ‘pay for the privilege’

VFL game day drinks, whilst appealing to some are not my preference, I prefer walking past punt road after an AFL win, loss or draw and walking into punt road to have s beer. However that ceased years ago, only to head up swan street to another venue.

Therefore, I suggest the club start looking to extend facilities so basic members can have access to post game drinks at punt road.

You may not have experienced the days when the club didn’t give a rats about what membership you held, they were more interested in raising cash for the club anyway they could ....... including selling beers to ANYONE walking past!!

A free for all in terms of how do they manage who gets in and who doesn't

You are aware anyone not near the closest gate to PRO has zero chance of going, ever.

They have done what every other club did, made a social club to manage the problem and generate coin.

Also it's not like the old one. It's a function room with a very tiny bar.

That’s not so much the RFC it’s called progress , it ain’t the 1970s anymore , there wouldn’t be a professional club in the world that would be like that anymore coz it’s now professional , you’d need to go local league for those feels .
I do hope that the amenities improve at PRO for those in the outer that want to watch , that’s not too great a challenge

You realize we train in a place called the Swinburne center and wear a jumper emblazoned with Jeep in place of our logo?

Jack Dyer isn’t the club, he’s just one of many champions of the game that have played for Richmond. There are plenty of people who have done as much or even more for the club, some on field and some off field.

you might wanna rethink some of this and learn some history. I wonder where we would be without Dyer, Crowe and KB.

Anyone who is denigrating Jack Dyer seriously knows nothing about the man or the sacrifices he made or club history and his devotion and commitment to the club. Without him, Crowe, Flea, KB and a few others, would we even have a club?

I can still remember drinking cans in the JD stand with eye of the tiger blaring before you’d roll over to the G for the game.

lmao who even is he

didnt know who he was before he got the gig at afl house

Think he’s like a less talented version if Dangerfield, but the same number of flags?

how good would it be to have the jack dyer stand in your backyard. at least give it to some campaigner. dont just demolish it to smithereens

All BS aside, they should sell the bricks so we get that chance. One per buyer. I’d do it.

In addition to the new stand, the artists' impression definitely shows changes made to the end of the existing building (highlighted in red in the pic below).

I, like several previous posters, was still curious about how they were going to fit in an MCG-size oval. After experimenting a little bit, it seems the only solution is to slightly change the alignment of the ground to run a bit more N-S. The oval I've drawn (yellow lines) is the entire MCG playing arena, which I think has a touch more space between boundary and fence than necessary fwiw.

Great effort.:thumbsu:

It was from around the time when the first news of this came out in 2018, I can`t find it now but I remember Benny saying that they will do it up as well as building the new facility.

Edit: Just found some info on it in the current article.

Stage one of the redevelopment will see the Punt Road Oval playing surface increased in size to MCG dimensions, demolition of the Jack Dyer Stand and replaced with new public seating and amenities, female changerooms, community facilities and a function space.

Stage two will see construction of an underground car park while stage three will see a new landscaped forecourt, refurbishment of the existing Swinburne Centre including a new sports hall, Tigerland Superstore and public entry. It will also see a new landscaped terrace behind the northern goals.

Dusty will be wrapt with the underground car park.

It's a state government project.
They're trying to politicise it by naming it after a political activist.
Sport and politics should not mix.
It's not a political centre FFS.
The Government has no say in who/what the building is named after.
If anyone is politicising this it is you.

The stand can go from punt road, but must be relocated brick by brick, plank by plank to another location, it's as simple as that.
Elements of the stand will be incorporated into the new development. Which suggests that those parts that are beyond saving are destined for the scrapyard. As I suggested about a week back, there is no reason that the seating areas can't be named the Jack Dyer Stand as part of the William Cooper Centre.
I have listened to Jack Dyer speak many times as a youngster growing up in Richmond and i can tell you right now he would say - Get it done as its about the club not the individual
This says it all, the club is bigger than any individual.
What ever the club see's as best for the Richmond Football Club and its future
Unfortunately it seems that too many people are unable to grasp this and instead seem to focus on how this impacts them personally.
They're trying to turn a footy ground into a political statement.
Named after someone who didn't even play footy.
There's enough politics in this world already, sick of politics.
Footy is the last bastion in our lives where we can escape it.
The ground will still be Punt Road Oval home of the Richmond Football Club.
When you look at the VFL/AFLW/VFLW fixture it will say the game is at PRO, not the William Cooper Centre.
Again the only one I see making it a political statement is you.
Anyone who is denigrating Jack Dyer seriously knows nothing about the man or the sacrifices he made or club history and his devotion and commitment to the club. Without him, Crowe, Flea, KB and a few others, would we even have a club?
Agree, you don't denigrate the greats that helped forge the history of the club. My opinion on removing the stand is purely from the what's best for the club moving forward point of view. As I've said a number of times, the seating areas at the front of the new building can still be named the Jack Dyer Stand, in fact with 2 seating areas, there is a chance to honour the past and the present

Imagine in 15yrs time and every club(even North)have better facilities than us and the Next Dusty decides as a free agent to explore his options.
We'd be last on his list.

It'll fit in yours.

As much as I’d like to see the stand retained, If you really want the stand relocated and rebuilt we’d have to apply for another $2M government grant to cover the costs.
In a few years time after we’ve won a couple more flags, this’ll all be forgotten.

Thats nothing more than demolition job and history lost to the scrap books.

Who cares if part of a wall in some obscure location is somehow paying homage to the past.

The "ENTIRE" stand must be relocated, even if its to a country ground.

Why dont we auction off every premiership trophy and medal prior to 2017 when our "new" history has begun?

The money we get would come in handy, and we can just make a few replica cups, no one will notice, it's just a historical memory anyway
