then its just a 400k contract over 2 years. There should be no discount for his earlier years - thats money he is owed.
Why? Restructuring of contracts in salary dump trades happen all the time. Essendon did it with 2MP, turned a 1 mil over 2 year contract into a 1.35 mil contract over 3.

Turning Bowes' 1.6 mil over 2 to 2.4 over 4 means he still gets his money but at a reduced rate

i guess that makes sense. I just think of the kouta contract situation back in the 90s where Carlton guilted him into taking a cut on his back ended contract when they underpaid him for a number of years prior.

Like if he came to Essendon and that was the case we probably still pay the 1.6 over the first two years anyway because of our cap situation to get up to the minimum spend. But yeah, it makes complete sense to me.

Is there any clarity over what the actual deal is going to be? I know pick 7 is involved but is it an upgrade to 7?

I'd say we'd take Clark before them. It's actually pick 8 when you count Ashcroft.
If we get the deal, I certainly hope you do. Leaves two of Phillipou, Mackenzie and Humphrey for us.

Cant see Bowes wanting to give up on his 850k for 2 years, if anything the contract will be like 850k ×2 and maybe a extension of 350-400k over the next 2 years. So totality would be something like 4 years at 2.5M. Not sure many clubs can afford to pay that over 4 years..

Crows can

his owed money shouldn't be factored into though. if he wants 400k for the 3rd and 4th years fine if thats what he is worth.

I get that but no club is going to pay him 1.6mil over 2 unless theres an agreement with him that the next 2 years after are at a lower wage. He has every right to stay there but he might spend 2 years in the neafl if the suns wont pick him, and then when he is in 2024 ooc he wont get any decent $ from any club (as he will have barely played for years and will be lucky to stay on a list)

Some players will agree to that sort of restructuring now if it gives them the chance to get to a club where they can potentially play more regular footy (particularly if its at a finals club)

While im sympathetic to his situation the reality is hes only likely to find a new club if he agrees to those terms. Otherwise hes welcome to stay where he is and collect his money (im sure gc would like him to go but if he decides not to they will have to keep him and pay him).

Most clubs can afford 600k a year its more whether they think hes worth paying that..not whether they can pay it.

Yeah i doubt you let clark get to us. But still 7 would give us the chance at a very good player (or to be used in other trades) which is the only reason we would contemplate the deal.

Not sure about that- consider this if you paid him 600k a season that would put him near the top 100 highest paid player in the league? Also at 600k he makes up 1/21 of your teams TTP... and that's if every player is paid 600k on your list..

To start something just for the Suns moderator, I have been a Suns member since their establishment so I trust the comments that follow isn't considered trolling the Suns. I cannot understand how the reports of Bowes being owed $850k next year (and potentially the following year) is something that the Suns could justify.
Repeatedly pushing back salaries seems at best short sighted and frankly if it means that Bowes is owed $850k for 1 or 2 years then someone at the Suns should lose their job!

Yeah but a lot of clubs have guys on 300k or less which is why you can afford some contracts at 600k or more. As i said the bigger issue is not can they find the cap room, but why would they want to? (For someone who might not be a regular senior player). The answer is only if they get p7 for doing it

Essendon are best placed but from some reports Bowes is adamant he does not want to play for Essendon. Will go to Geelong imo

I can't see for the life of me how Geelong can get a deal done tbh.

Bombers or Saints are my tips.

Surprised Hawthorn aren't that keen from latest reports, he would be a good recruit for them, plus pick 7.

There's one random twitter account saying that.

A fit Jack Bowes is a good player. Versatile, quite courageous, smart, good overhead mark for his size, with a good step in traffic. Sure he’s only average speed and his kicks are a little loopy but his skills are sound. This year was a write off due to a bad shoulder injury preseason. He’s coming into his prime footballing years at just 25 next season. Looking at his career stats, playing mainly out of the backline due to necessity…
