Opinion I've lost my faith in Ken Hinkley

i find it bemusing that when a someone highlights issues and shortfalls/problems and questions coaches etc, that some people will roll out the old "and you call yourself supporters" line

As paid up members and contributors to the club, if those people cant question the club then who can?

Are "supporters" and "members" supposed to stay quiet and accept everything as being peachy when things arent?

Here's a thread with a title that's unambiguous - it's all Ken's fault, not Kochie's after all. Caro says so:

Ken Hinkley ... admits his pre-season fears that his team could struggle under the weight of expectation has been realised.

..."I'm reasonably comfortable that what has happened is what I feared might happen..."

Ah so. Exactly when did you develop this fear, Ken? When you were lying back in a hammock and contemplating... having handed the pre-season reins to Nicks?
The fear from when he was an assistant coach in and dealing with 2006 first hand you gup.

It's a worry that Ken seems lost without a senior assistant.
I would be too if a great mate who you spend years together and one incredibly successful and intimate year together just got murdered.

Paying money to the club doesn't make people arm chair coaches. One mediocre season after 2 decent ones doesn't mean the wheels have fallen off, all the criticism just adds more pressure to a team who is obviously lacking confidence. I've supported this proud club my whole life and live and breathe the Port and being a supporter means you do just that, not lay the boots in when things are down and then make calls using hindsight as to where the coaching has failed. This is looking like camry or central supporter behaviour.

If you're having a go at me, don't hide behind a word I've never seen before. What the 'hell' is a 'gup'?
And what the hell does 2006 have to do with 2013-2016? Even if you're right, what you've thrown up is no excuse for what's happening now.

We're all armchair coaches. I am. You are too.
As far as your last sentence is concerned, you may well be one of these gups that PatientMental has introduced into the vernacular.

Ken openly admitted he made a mistake in the 2013 final. In my opinion he's repeated the same mistake - self-fulfilling negative prophesies. Let's have no more of 'em.

Related to his back problems that saw him miss games?

I reckon he's being medicated for hypertension and/or stress and has been told to calm down or he'll have a heart attack. He's been remarkably docile this year.

Obviously this is from the outside looking in but could the elephant in the room be Voss...?

The chemistry doesn't seem right.

Just hoping that with a full year in each others pockets, everything clicks for next season.

I have no idea who patientmental is and as far as negativity, this whole thread reeks of it. In fact one is hard pressed to find many positive statements on this site.

What do you want him to say? Typical of people to attack a guy the minute things go downhill. He didn't kick the ball out on the full 11 times against Geelong did he?
No , but the guys he has backed in week after week have kicked it out on the full , regularly .And sorry to say things have been going downhill for months , with no or only changes at the edges , mid field gets thrashed , drop the back pocket player eh , not very confidence inspiring id say.

Ironic though, that 93' was the year Blight as Geelong's coach experimented with player selections and setups in a misguided stroke. He apologised to the playing group 6 weeks out from finals saying he had made a mistake and put them back in their spots. They won their next 5/6 (thrashing finalists North, Hawthorn, Essendon and beating West Coast in Perth) to only narrowly miss the finals on percentage. Wonder if Ken is having that sort of year with us.

The problem with Ken, is he's too honest.

Ken H is a good man but his head coaching stint is still in its infancy. Mistakes have been made this year for sure.
But losing Walsh to the Crows would have been a shock - Ken doesn't look confident or assured - almost over doing the 'calm dude' look.
Ken needs good strategists around him.
Cant believe we have reached our salary cap for our playing list AND the coaching staff!
Talk about getting ahead of ourselves -

Does Ken still sit in the coaches box alone??
If he does that is a huge concern for me, if there is no cohesion amongst the coaches where in the blazes are we going.
