In this photo, we have Jessie White closer to the camera, and Witts although further back is still reaching the top of the photo, whereas White is well below. If White is 196cm, it is hard to see that Witts is only 12cm's bigger. If Witts was standing right next to White, then 12cm difference would be understandable, but by this pic, it looks like Witts is about 215cm not 208cm. Anyone know whether there is some recent measuring done down at Collingwood, and what Witts' current height is.

I think Witts will be a champion by the way, and think Grundy and Witts combo will rival the Cox Natanui combo at West Coast. Don't know whether White gets game time reduced if this happens, but hopefully we can fit them all in. White's speed is impressive enough to not be too concerned about being top heavy.

More to point where has Swanny's skin gone?

How bout a photo of him next to Sandilands

It's a matter of perspective/camera angle. Also, the ground may not be level. You'd need to put them side by side on a flat surface to truly measure the height differences.
You're bloody right.
And you would need one of those tape measure things to measure the height difference too.

Don't really want him to grow any more. There's a point where it becomes a hindrance

Ahem ;)

Anyone forgot how awesome the Ming was?
At the time of his final season, he was the tallest active player in the NBA, at 2.29 m (7 ft 6 in)

Ah the Chairman Yao. Had a sweet shot especially for such a big bloke. Pity his feet could not handle the constant pounding in the end.
And what about the photo? I can't decide if Yao is going to deck the ref or snog him. Very intense moment...

Judging people's relative heights from photos is never easy, especially on uneven surfaces, with different distances from the camera, when the people have different postures... I would think he is still the 208 cm.

Easier to judge if they are side by side on a footy field

It would seem so, is that a good thing though?

The bigger he gets the less agile he is likely to get, and he needs to be able to move pretty well if he's to play the ruck role in senior, modern day AFL footy.
There comes a time when you reach such a height that agility and pace don't matter anymore imo. Endurance and body strength are what matters for Witts, he's definitely coordinated enough for his side, has to fix his kicking though. I reckon we will have to wait until his 25 to make a definitive assessment on him. He showed he could play a bit last season though and has improved on every season he's played at the club imo.

I fear to imagine what could have happened to him were he at Essendon during the 'peptide' period. It has been alleged that the dons employed peptides of the ghrp/ghrh type (growth hormone stimulators) and if Witts were given these he would be a chance to hit 220cm quite easily.
He appears to me to have reached his height potential although he may have continued growing if he wasnt an AFL player lifting heavy weight loads.
I really think we should stick it out with Witts as he will be a one of a kind player when he does reach his potential. (Sandilands will be gone by then) Sandilands took time to grow into his enormous frame and look at his dominance in recent years. Witts is unfairly judged to be taking too long as he's been under the microscope since he was a NSW scholarship player. A couple more years and he'll be tearing the comp to bits.

You all need to calm down. He is a giant of a man, his progression isn't going to be at the same rate of a 21/22 year old who is 185cm.

Look at Josh Fraser, we gave him a high workload straight off the bat and that had a major impact on the rest of his career no doubt. If he plays in the VFL all season and is better for it in the long run, so be it. I think he is a very exciting prospect and people need to chill out a little.

Has a big role to play with only Hudson and Grundy as the other main rucks on the list.. neither of them will be able to play all games even if they don't get injured. We need him to stand up

Point taken, but i don't think he will be playing anywhere near as many games as Grundy will be, and thats fine. I'd rather have him in the VFL developing than burning him out.

The growth I'm hoping to see in Witts this year is growing into his body and developing some strength through the core. How does the father/son rule work if the pies can genetically engineer a Swanny/Witts love child?
Dane Pendbucklebury-Rocloke. Ultra classy key height half-forward/mid that clunks anything within arms length, hits any target within 70m with bullet passes, can hit a bees dick with godlike hand passing and from all accounts is a top bloke who's funny to boot.

yes... going by the photo he is at least 8ft tall and probably closer to 9ft. Also, has anyone seen Josh Thomas lately? i suspect Wittsy has accidentally eaten him and he's going to burst out Alien style and kick a goal when we need it most.
But they mostly come out at night...mostly.
And god did you put a really stupid image in my head :P
