If you are involved in construction in New York City - be it Manhattan or Brooklyn or Queens, you learn the ways of the mafia and probably have regularly negotiated with them.

So the world and the US Department of Trade have 90 days in which to negotiate mutually acceptable trade agreements? That is over 150 separate deals in 90 days. The trade deals will be negotiated by the same US Department of Trade officials that said the penguins and seals of Heard and Mc Donald Islands exported machinery to the US. Good luck with that.

In the meantime Trump has increased the tariff on Chinese imports to 145%. Not to worry though as Donald Trump says he has a good working relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"He's been a friend of mine for a long period of time, and I think that we'll end up working out something that's very good for both countries," Mr Trump said.

He was a friend Donny and didn't you say something similar about Volodymyr Zelensky before he visited the Oval Office?

Apparently the Republican House Leader withdrew a motion to Congress part of which would have over ridden the Congress' power to veto the President on tariffs. Trump would have had no checks on his power to tariff the world. As it is Trump is doing as he pleases but clearly some Republicans are not happy and if things do not work out well he could face a revolt from within.

Meanwhile the Chinese have upped the ante and raised tariffs on US goods to 125% and President Xi Jingping has called on the EU to join forces with China to fight Trump's tariffs. Yes, Donny Xi is a smart man.

It isn't all bad news. For weeks I have been asking myself why couldn't Australia step into the vacuum created in the Chinese market? US imports suddenly become more expensive so that should be an opening for Australian beef and other primary exports.

Overnight the Trump Administration exempted Chinese electrical imports from the Trump Tariffs. i Phones, tablets, flat screen TV's, micro processors will now be exempt. Donny won't admit it but he has blinked first, someone has told him that a 150% tariff on Chinese electronic goods will force prices to sky rocket and that will be unpopular.

The world is gunna coming running to me wanting to do a deal, eh. Well thus far the only one backing down is you Donny.

The exemptions announced by the US Customs and Border Protection office cover various electronic goods including smartphones and components entering the United States from China.
