Lynch still not running and out for round 1 but will be cherry ripe for the season? Sure no worries mate. It's Feb and you're still not running fully.

Posted it many times but the Lynch we get back will be a way off what we once had.

What do you mean he’s not running? The club published footage of him running a few weeks back

Not really a surprise to most here that Lynch won't play round 0. My question however is, will he actually play round 1?

Yeah, I reckon he'll play against the scum. He will be training with the main group within the next week or so.
RD 1 is just over 5 weeks away. Between pies on Feb 27th and Suns on March 9th, hoping he gets some managed mins (2 qtrs) in a ressies practice game. Plonk him in the square and stay within 20 meters of goals and let Balta and Kosi do all the running up the ground.

AFL 2024: Tom Lynch, Dylan Grimes and Dion Prestia take big steps in return from injury at Richmond training

Richmond’s Opening Round clash against Gold Coast is less than a month away and three key Tigers took big steps in their return from injury on Saturday. Who will be ready?

Key Tiger pair Tom Lynch and Dylan Grimes stepped into training on Saturday as midfielder Dion Prestia powered through a strong running session on his sore hamstring.
Goalkicker Lynch and defender Grimes have been largely kept to the Richmond rehab group over the past month of training, with Lynch on the return from foot surgery and Grimes dealing with a calf niggle.
But both joined teammates to start a session on Saturday, with Lynch showing no signs of discomfort as he ran and kicked with ease.
The spearhead stepped back to the side of training after 45 minutes, before joining in a high marking drill as training wound up.
Grimes stayed in with the main group the whole way and moved well as he hopes to prove his fitness before an opening round meeting with Gold Coast.

Lynch has been ruled out of Opening Round and said this week he would begin to slowly ease his way back into normal training as he aimed to play in round 1 against Carlton.

Fellow defender Nick Vlastuin was back into the swing of things are clearing concussion protocols.
A handful of Tigers were on light duties, with Tim Taranto, Jack Graham and Tylar Young among those taking it easy.
Diagnosed with a minor hamstring injury last week, Prestia pushed through resistance training and 200m runs at high speed.

The nuggety midfielder has been ruled out of February 18’s match simulation against Melbourne but could recover in time to face Collingwood on February 27, in the Charity Shield match.

While most Tigers were crisp with ball in hand on Saturday, young forward Liam Fawcett drew laughter when he missed a mark and copped a ball in the mouth.

A Tyler Sonsie set shot that faded to the right late in the session drew the ire of teammates, with the Tigers then forced into 20 push-ups.

RIOLI’S ROLE REDUX

A number of Tigers were missing from Punt Road on Saturday, as 10 players went on to Darwin instead of Melbourne after this week’s camp in Mildura.

Daniel Rioli was one of those players, soaking in the chance to spent some time back in the Northern Territory.
He clarified that he still expects to play most of 2024 as a running defender, after revealing to this masthead recently that new coach Adem Yze has floated the idea of midfield minutes for the speedster.

“I obviously moved into the backline halfway through the 2021 season and found my position there and played a bit more consistently through there, I think that will be my spot this year,” Rioli said.

“I am just excited to play under Adem Yze, obviously a new coach to us and coming from the Demons he has had a good game plan that we have introduced to us and into our game plan.”

Rioli backed in a push to permanently move the AFLW Dreamtime match between Richmond and Essendon to Darwin.
While usually held at the MCG, the 2020 AFL Dreamtime game was moved to Darwin’s TIO Stadium and sold out.
“I reckon (AFLW Dreamtime games in Darwin) would be awesome,” Rioli said.

“Obviously we had that opportunity … I was up here playing the Dreamtime game and that was a pretty special game.
“AFLW would be awesome, we have a big footy fan base here in the Northern Territory and obviously a lot of women play here and are really good footballers.
“If it does happen it would be pretty special and I think everyone would get around it.”

Will be a late in Gru. Dimma won't know, thinks Richmond still operates straight up like when he was cockroach. Doesn't realise we look for every single edge anywhere we can get it now. Lynch plays, will end up with Collins punching pillars post-match again. :)

Tiger to make long-awaited return, injured veterans to be managed

Josh Gibcus is set to feature in Richmond's match sim this weekend after spending more than a year on the sidelines

RICHMOND young gun Josh Gibcus is set to play his first game since the 2022 elimination final loss to Brisbane in Sunday's match simulation against Melbourne at Casey Fields.

The 20-year-old didn't appear once in 2023 due to a complex hamstring tendon injury that required surgery last January and eventually resulted in a trip to an internationally renowned sports medicine practice in Qatar during the off-season.

After a gradual build across November and December, Gibcus has been in full training this side of Christmas, featuring in both intraclubs at Punt Road ahead of this weekend's practice match against the Demons.

Gibcus played 18 games in an eye-catching debut season in 2022 after being selected at pick No.9 in the 2021 AFL Draft.
The young key defender now looks ready to resume his AFL career against Gold Coast in the Tigers' season-opener at Heritage Bank Stadium on March 9.

Former co-captain Dylan Grimes is back in contention to be there against Damien Hardwick's new side after managing a lingering calf issue across the pre-season.

The 32-year-old banked the pre-Christmas block of the pre-season but missed most of January and early February with the issue. Grimes trained on Wednesday morning, putting him on track to play some minutes in the practice matches.

Two-time premiership spearhead Tom Lynch returned to the main group on Saturday and is building towards a return against Carlton in round one after being ruled out of the trip to Queensland earlier this month.

The 2022 Jack Dyer medallist hasn't played since breaking his foot in round four last year and needs to complete a decent conditioning block to mitigate the risk of soft tissue injuries before being given the green light to return, after not running for nine months following the injury.

Dion Prestia completed a modified program on Wednesday after suffering a minor hamstring setback at the start of the month but is expected to be available for the clash against his old side, with the triple premiership player aiming to feature in the practice match against Collingwood on February 27.

Dustin Martin has overcome a minor ankle sprain and trained fully at the Swinburne Centre with the Brownlow medallist expected to feature in only one of the scratch matches, most likely against the Magpies at Ikon Park.

Toby Nankervis is managing a sore foot and unlikely to feature this weekend, but the skipper isn't considered in any doubt for Opening Round at this stage.

East Perth forward Mitch Schofield and New Zealander Mykelti Lefau are both set to get one final chance to impress for a spot on the rookie list in the practice match against Simon Goodwin's squad, which will be played across seven periods at this stage with first-choice teams to start the game.

The pair joined the club when the pre-season supplemental selection period opened on November 27 and have completed the full program across the pre-season. Richmond has one spot open and could opt to leave a spot open for the Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

After earning a debut in the final home and away round of 2023, where he showed he is capable of playing at the level, James Trezise has carried that momentum across his first pre-season at Punt Road, building a case to be picked in Adem Yze's first team in just over three weeks' time.

Rhyan Mansell has been one of the big improvers on the track over the pre-season as he fights for a permanent spot in Richmond's best 22 in 2024 after being the sub in his final three appearances of last season.

Thomson Dow has caught the attention of the coaches, including new midfield coach Chris Newman, and looks set for greater opportunity this year after managing 17 senior appearances to date and no more than six in one season since being selected at pick No.21 in the 2019 AFL Draft.

It's the 90s baggy look. You can thank Taylor Swift types and the current generation for not being original enough that they can invent their own trends beyond shallow retakes like 'Ironic 1991' kitsch.
