The first paragraph lost me...if someone could explain to me??

A proposed deal between ASADA and Essendon whereby Bombers players would escape doping sanctions with zero penalty, while Cronulla players would be given a minimum six-month ban, was aborted following protests from lawyers acting for ASADA and Cronulla

.So according to Masters, Essendon tried to broker a deal with ASADA that would not only have the players escape suspension, but also get the Cronulla players suspended.

heck we're good!

How the hell would we be even able to determine the punishment of players from another code? No wonder Cronulla were pissed.

Maybe ther was meant to be a full stop in there instead?

In any event, this was reported on the 9th of March, 19 days ago.

This same premise was bought up in an article by Rebecca Wilson 2-3 weeks ago. Even had a comment from Vlad on the whole thing

"I won't deny that we have been in talks with ASADA since day one," he said. "We have been transparent and the Essendon players came forward freely with their concerns at the start. They have been totally honest.
"I know the NRL has been jumping up and down with the Prime Minister but there is a mechanism in place, available to all athletes under the code, that allows for more lenient penalties if the athlete is honest from the outset. All we have done is seek to ensure that our athletes will be treated fairly under that code"

Good to see the AFL getting tough on drugs. The AFL's "ministry of Integrity" is something straight out of George Orwell's 1984.

It was??

The intent of the article is not to say that the proposed deal, between THE AFL and ASADA, (not Essendon,) was to have any influence over the Cronulla situation at all.

It was a seperate "deal" which gave perceived preferential treatment to AFL players as opposed to what was apparently on the table for NRL players.

Hence the dummy spit, which was warranted imo, by the NRL boss.

What Wilson failed to report, and what Demetriou either willfully, negligently or by ignorance, failed to expand upon was that the deal got kicked out of town. Allegedly.

Smacks of desperation.

I'm most certainly not treating it as gospel. However, it does give a fasinating insight into the ongoing shennanigans occuring behind closed doors.

Hate Maters all you like, but he does have his sources and is credible.

If he had written an article with a positive slant I doubt that you have even bothered posting.

I doubt that.

Those trees in front of you are called a forest.

How anyone could hate this little guy, is beyond me! ;)

It's the same story with an added bonus.

Then why did you try manufacture a deal with ASADA?

If you didn't cheat, wouldn't EFC just stand by and allow the investigation to take place with no interference?

Essendon are now at the point where they're trying to soften the blow that's coming.
But how do you know we have tried to manufacture a deal? We all don't. But yes, if it were be true it'd be disgraceful.

Demetriou is the one working his tail off to manufacture a deal.

He has extraordinary personal motivation to do so.

His 10 year position as AFL CEO has made him a multi millionaire and has opened his future into Australias business world and boardrooms.

He has publicly ruminated many times that he is indebted to 2 personal mentors. Ron Evans, who gave him the job and mentored him. And Bill Kelty, who has throughout Demetriou's tenure been his mentor, sounding board and advisor.

Ron Evans is obviously Essendon Chairman David Evans' father. And Bill Kelty is Chairman of David Evans' private company Evans and Partners.

I can think of another sports person who never tested positive, what was his name again....?
Oh yes that's right Lance Edward Armstrong - former cyclist perhaps you may have heard of him.
Nah actually I think that's the first time anyone's raised Lance Armstrong. Good get!

I wonder if anyone's fashioned a picture to look like Lance Armstrong is wearing an Essendon jumper yet? We could caption it something like "Bombers' new recruit" flipping LOL

All these ideas are great and it would really punish the real villains in this situation: the Essendon fans who don't want their club to be destroyed and who are downright OFFENSIVE with their refusal to accept all the varying but simultaneously correct interpretations of how bad this is.
