Tell us more about Dear not working out, I'm pretty sure nobody at Hawthorn is aware of this one?

Ginnivan also, though at least he's been on the park.
Not sure what you mean, Ginivam is excellent and Calsher Dear is a very fine prospect.

Gunston leaving then coming back hasn't been as clear a success, but the reasoning was probably clearing out the list, and then deciding to get a bit more class back in.

I recall posts about Mitchell "looking after a mate", I think that's not right, it was a punt and I can see why they took it.

Yeah, I took that to mean it was all not a great success (Dear, Ginnvan, Gunston etc.).

On that note: Gunston has been a huge success – he's a goal kicking on-field coach, whose value mentoring Dear has been written/mentioned fairly often. He hasn't been able to play every week, but in addition to taking a good defender, he even bobs up with a small bag every so often.

He's done the job on GWS's best defender twice now, kicking 4 and 2 goals respectively.

I wasn't a believer because his body seemed shot at Brisbane. But he's turned it around.

Don’t even have our tall forwards

Nobody seems to mention it much, but how the hell is Calsher not being regarded as a key out. Let alone Mitch Lewis.

Bloody odd.

Our game style is going up level when those guys come in and get established.

It would only take one to click and it can all change quickly.

Reckon in the modern game, blowing teams away is more a sign of a flat track bully than a bona-fide premiership contender

the 'best' teams are super disciplined in the way they play, and will more-often strangle teams
Fantastic user name!

Hawthorn dominated teams in 2012, kicking cricket scores and just smashing them.

Didn't count for a thing come finals. We were gassed.

Scraped into the Grand Final after a home prelim that was ungodly close, then lost a tight game at the big dance. We played injured stars who showed the wear and tear of a season spent going full throttle.

If we'd won four GF's in a row, people would still be talking about it.

But maybe the fire to win the next 3 might not have burned as brightly as it did, so kind of moot.

Still a hell of an achievement in that era to make it to four grand finals in a row, and win three of them.

Massive, lost opportunity though.

Cant defend the Amon one

Massimo one was technically correct.

Massimo for sure was under pressure at all times. Amon is either a mistake or the umpires were told to be more lenient in determining whether the player was "under pressure". We will know over the next few weeks if it was a bad call or yet another interpretation.

I see no issue with Amon, he was looking to take the game on, and only went over when genuine pressure came. He didn't make a skill error, just waited till a player was on him and there was no way out before getting over the line.

That's in line with 99.9 percent of behinds rushed when the player is on the goal line. He was working in a telephone booth on that play.

If he'd fumbled, or stumbled and created pressure on himself before making a dive over the line to escape like the 'controversial one' paid to us the week before, I can see the call changing.

But the guy was looking to take the game on.

Jack Gunstons corpse is their best forward, they blew up their salary cap for two defenders who don't like to play on a man.
Well no we didn't considering we have ample cash to splurge on another FA this year and next. 1 bad game and there both failures LMAO, bit like your whole defense in general does Nicks coach like a little league game? Just score goals don't worry about anything else. Probably the last supporter group to be having a crack considering you coughed up a 5 goal lead on your home ground.
