I'm thinking that votes for Chet Fakers 1998 are inflated, and it's more likely to be around 9 rather than 4 or 5 (by inflated I mean the amount of votes recorded on social media may not correlate to the end result)

The affection for 1988 baffles me. I think Gold leaves 1988 in its wake....and that film clip

I don't get Peking Duk at all. I didn't like it but Riptide had a pretty obvious melody and a chill brah with-my-girls-at-Laney vibe to it that was obviously always going to attract votes. But Peking Duk? There's nothing original about it. There's no big hook, no huge chorus, and sounds like it could be written by a hundred other bands and be the kind of thing you'd release as a third single.
I guess it's a bit like those bands who nobody has as their favourites, but lots of people like.
I'm seeing JT that night so I'm really just looking forward to Zombie and potentially Rabbit Hole. If he had a beard and a pseudonym and came from privileged Melbourne I reckon Don't You Find could've gone top 15 – has all the makings...

I really want Rabbit Hole to make the count, I reckon it might sneak into the 90–100 section. Otherwise it won't at all. Zombie will probably be top 30

Yeah I really don't get it either, I think a lot of people are voting for it because it was on a lot of lists before the hottest 100 voting started. But even then I don't get why other musicians like it, it's generic and they're just a nothing band. The song High sounds like something you'd hear on Nova, like that stupid Albatross song that is possibly the worst song I've ever heard.
Personally High is an okay song. I wouldnt have it in my top 25 Triple J songs of the year but it would be around that mark.

To be honest it just sounds a lot like Lorde; if her synth pads didn't sound like the industrial suburbs of Manchester. I mean it's not offensively bad or anything but it seems like the kind of thing you just add in because like, you've heard it a lot and it's not bad. I guess all polls are flawed by encouraging narrowness or broadness but it still seems a weird choice...
On one hand, it seems really fit for the melancholy (probably more a biting anxiety and loneliness) I always feel for these days – like everyone else is having a better time. I fail to believe someone could feel really joyous with that song at 3pm when you've been drinking half-warm Emus for four hours. And on the other hand, it sounds like the kind of song you hear on the worst night out of your life; when everyone else is pulling at 1:50 and you start thinking that anti-child organisation might have a point.

Loved high from the first time i heard it. My equal favourite song of the year, not proclaiming it to be musical genius by any stretch of the imagination but it is one of the best songs i have ever heard live.

I really hope my prediction is wrong. I just sat through my guessed top 10, other than Hilltop Hoods we're in for a snoozefest on Monday night. Talk about a downer to finish off a day of party.

I really really hope Hilltop Hoods manage to defy the odds and take out top spot. Not only is it a good song, much better than High or Talk Is Cheap, but they've never been able to reach #1 and it'd be great for their legacy if they could.

I know Peking Duk's manager, so given that someone has to win this thing it might as well be them. My Facebook feed would be pretty entertaining for a few hours, at least. I like Chet Faker, but Talk Is Cheap just isn't good enough to top the hottest 100. Slim pickings this year though, I guess.
I didn't really get the hype of Alt J the first time around, but gave a couple of their new songs a listen today, and I think I might have misjudged them. Left Hand Free is a great song, even if it sounds more like the Rolling Stones than Alt J.
The one I don't get, though, is Faded by ZHU. The **** is this shit? It sounds like some filler song from a shitty EDM compilation, how the hell is it being voted in the top 10 of the biggest alternative music poll in the country?
