It reduces inhibitions against violence and child abuse
And many other things as well. Many of which removing inhibitions results in a good outcome. Humans worry too much. It causes us stress and anxiety. Removing inhibitions is mostly a great thing.

Alcohol does not make you violent or abuse children. It just reduces the inhibitions to people already inclined to do those things.

There's far better ways of treating stress than drinking.

Who would've thought video shops would go extinct within ten years. Libraries going down the same path. The end could come very quickly for horse racing.
Video shops and libraries were hardly a billion dollar industry though.

If it makes money it stays. Simple.

Looks like Racing NSW has been telling porkies and they knew about the slaughter of thoroughbreds. When the body in charge of racing can't enforce their own rules and regs; how is anybody to have faith in the integrity of the business?

Could they ban any breeding for say 5 years or something?

Allow numbers to naturally decline.

Have the same horses run for more than 1-2 years then say as they reach 6-7 then breed (1-2 foals max)

Might make better trainers rather than quantity over quality.

Snapper fishing being banned in SA for 3 years to try and re populate.

Do the opposite with horses.

Surely Snapper fishing makes millions too.

Government step in... ban breeding of any horses for 3 years.

Limit no. of foals (bag limits: fishing)

Find suitable homes for the horses that do stop racing.

Horse race times may be slower due to less "fast super horses" but people will still get on them.

There are many ways. Some of them are more available to do in a busy work week then others. Do a bit of all of them. Moderation and variation is the key due to diminishing marginal returns.
There's many ways, but if you're relying on alcohol to manage stress, that's probably maladaptive.

Shades of the live export debacle.

What degree of consciousness do horses have? Any horse experts that know? Kind of important to figure out before we make up our mind on this.

They do not demonstrate the ability to recognize their own reflection in a mirror, which probably means they're not on the same level of consciousness as elephants, apes, dolphins and orcas.

Adam Goodes showing up at the races today was a great illustration of industry hypocrisy. Moralise all you like, as long as you support the gambling, drinking and animal abuse.
I can't bet, drink or own a horse and now I can't even go and see Michelle Paynes movie in Thornbury either.

Times are tough not being an unhinged overbearing leftie.

Australia has just slightly less than the USA in new foals every year at 18k from 30,000 broodmares roughly 20% of foals in the world. Most foals end up not racing there is roughly 30k horses racing or training in Australia at any one time.

It's always been an industry of liars and scumbags. Whenever issues surrounding the hidden realities of horse racing bubble to the public surface, the same old tired lines get trotted out like " the industry is full of good people". It isn't, period.
