Hawthorn livewire Nick Watson says players have Port Adelaide clash circled

One Gather Round clash in Adelaide in 2025 is already on the must-watch list and the players involved are talking it up a long way out.

Do they not teach how to write good in Journalism school any more? Maybe I'm just getting old, but I had to read these paras a few time to really understand what they were talking about!

As Watson, 19, confirmed there would be some “rescheduling” after he and enigmatic teammate Jack Ginnivan left a host of young fans high and dry by the last-minute cancellation of a post-season clinic, he said the clash with Port during Gather Round was well and truly circled on his calendar.

Watson and Ginnivan copped significant criticism for skipping the clinic, which some 80 kids and their parents had paid $65 to attend and was scheduled the day after the club’s best and fairest award.

What on earth does that footy clinic have anything to do with what Wizard said. Pathetic
The article had absolutely nothing to do with what Wiz said but IMO I think both Ginni and himself need to start realising that this is the way it's always going to be for them from here on out. All the celebrations and limelight that those bring will always be under the microscope good or bad and us as fans probably also need to realise that defending them at every turn is going to become very tiring and pretty much like trying to beat a dead horse.

Like many I don't like how the organisation of the footy clinic was handled as it was a poor look for them + the club and it was a big learning curve for the both of them. I really hope they end up doing a little media piece around it when they end up doing the clinic again with these kids and I know they released a statement via their social media but it would be great if they did something a little more formal.

This is something that will follow both of them for a while as oppo fans and media won't let it slide so IMO it would be awesome if the club went on the front foot and handed all these kids and their parents a bunch of free tickets to a game and a visit to the rooms post game to meet the players. It could be a really good opportunity to a poorly handled situation into a positive one by just taking one on the chin so everyone can move forward because at the end of the day all that matters is the kids.

Still shaking my head but who in the hell organised the footy clinic …… the morning after the Brownlow! That was stupid
Not the Brownlow, the Peter Crimmins night...

We put up with Kennett antics for many years so this is a walk in the park

Pity the AFL was too gutless to schedule Port at the G in 2025
The AFL did us a favour.

Port are not a high drawing club, particularly away. Much rather our MCG games to be against other big Vic clubs.

The fact that it happened is a bad look... but somewhat forgivable due to the date.

They should have quickly organised something and made it special somehow.

Then it would have been quickly forgotten.

Instead, nothing has been done until now. A long time has passed.

Pretty pi**weak.

Baffling that people can't grasp this point. I'd rather have more in our coffers while watching us beat Port at UTAS. I guarantee the club never requested to have Port at the MCG.

I don’t think that’s true, pretty sure they’ve done the clinic now.

OK.

This is what it says in the article....

"As Watson, 19, confirmed there would be some “rescheduling” after he and enigmatic teammate Jack Ginnivan left a host of young fans high and dry by the last-minute cancellation of a post-season clinic".

That could just as easily mean they'll be more careful to schedule these things at better dates in the future.

Not that anyone cares, but if I was their editor I'd go for:

Watson, 19, confirmed there would be “rescheduling” after he and teammate Jack Ginnivan left a host of young fans high and dry with the last-minute cancellation of a post-season clinic.

The duo copped significant criticism for skipping the event, which was scheduled the day after the club’s best and fairest award. About 80 kids and parents missed out on meeting their heroes after spending $65 to attend.

Then just have the below as a completely separate para.

Watson said the clash with Port during Gather Round was well and truly circled on his calendar.

Ridiculous writing lmao. Like isn't news.com.au meant to be writing for an approx. 12-yo target audience? Why the **** are they calling Ginnivan enigmatic and using run-on sentence after run-on sentence to convolute the para. Do they pay for extra white space on their articles or something??
