yikes, I don't want defend Barrett...he is praising our current depth of squad. he's saying other clubs should be doing what we're doing.

If you explained sliding doors to him, then he'd probably keep doing it like he does...could you imagine having to come up with actual sliding doors moments every week for every club? I'm thinking, they still run it as sliding doors after all these years of 'not getting the concept' because it tweaks people out, it's his brand of marketing or whatever... "He's such a plonker, he doesn't get it!" <looks to see what he said this week>

He got wheeled out every week as the purple helmeted warrior on the footy show, he loves some hate-watch. It is his career, and I'm guessing he owns houses.

What show was this ? I hate him as much as the next Hawks fan but wouldn't mind listening.

fwiw - I do agree with everything you have said, and I'm not saying players would want to leave, but we have such a deep and strong list that other clubs would be mad to not look at some of our players.
Every club has a their own secret list of every player, AFL, VFL, interstate leagues, local leagues etc. looking for the best players for the smallest outlay, think picks/salary etc. each player they rate is highlighted, then according to need, example Issac Smith was in the Ballarat league and was a handy pick up for us.
Then it is down to due diligence, hard work, the right carrot and the best list plan. They are aware and watching of that I have no doubt.
We are so lucky to have MM and his dedicated crew scouring the country for the right player to fill our next priority.

EDIT - from https://www.afl.com.au/news/1291138...nts-to-poach-players-at-vulnerable-clubs-then

IF ...

Sam Mitchell continues to pick off unsettled players at vulnerable clubs ...

THEN ...

no idea why other coaches aren't playing a similar game and targeting the many Hawks who aren't playing seniors due to depth or injury, as well as the ones who may be seeking greater in-game responsibilities. Here's some options: Mitch Lewis, Jai Serong, James Worpel, Josh Ward, Ned Reeves, James Blanck, Sam Frost. Something will have to give at some stage.

Sorry if it was posted earlier... I dont disagree with the "THEN", but really, clubs should be doing it anyway.
It wasn't a show rather sliding doors

Sammy is actually being pretty damn bold and brazen about it all.

And that’s one of many things I’m loving about him…
It works on multiple levels, sponsors get us in the paper for good reasons and the media cycle will blow onto another story in 48 hours

I have no idea what the sh1t he's doing with that stupid segment. He clearly doesn't understand the 'sliding doors' concept.

I don't understand it & I'm good with that. Sorry Damo, it's you - not me.
His best one was:

"If: Rankine and Rischitelli sound like a legal firm,
Then: Adelaides small forward set up is good for the next decade" or something like that.

This means that the quality of Adelaide's small forward set up is conditional upon their names sounding like a law firm. This means not only does the poor man not know what "sliding doors" means, he doesn't actually know what "if" and "then" mean.

🤌- that is such a good, and accurate line, well done Sir Lizard. Can definitely see Purple with a humiliation kink. Power to him for spinning it into a successful career, I couldn't do it - I prefer my ridicule behind my back 😂.

Essendon get McKay and Gresham, all the talk was the Hawks 'missing out' and the gloating about Essendon 'winning'. The narrative is about how good Essendon was to land them, and Twomey referenced how we 'missed out' for about a year. No talk about those 'poor clubs' being raided.. more the benefit to North for the picks.

Now we are finally getting a few free agents given our list is ready for trade and free agents, the narrative is we are taking from 'poor vulnerable clubs' (the ones not offering the contract to pay Allen mind you). Geelong has been taking players for years, it's how they are staying up on top half of the ladder most years. Smith, Henry, Bruhn, Cameron, Dangerfield etc... 2 were franchise players from GWS and Crows. Collingwood also has many players in their 23 from other clubs. Only when Hawthorn does it is it 'bad'. Two years ago we weren't trying to win, and now we are trying too much apparently.

When Hawthorn got Scully, the AFL needed to 'do a investigation', for fairly making a trade. When Geelong got gifted pick 7 in very 'murky' circumstances apparently Mackie needed to be 'knighted'.

When we did a (very short) rebuild, apparently we were tanking and getting calls from the AFL about our list management. And it was unfair for the competition. Never have I heard a club accused of tanking, let alone aggressively stating it over and over, for rebuilding despite every year have a club doing just that. 1 year later, Richmond are in fact rebuilding and have a 'promising future' despite trading out multiple key players.

It is so obvious now it's just rather hilarious.

“If I was the West Coast Eagles, I’d get on the phone to their managers and go, ‘Here, this is what we can do for Lloyd Meek’. He’s having a fantastic year. Put a package together for him that says, ‘If you come to us, not only will we tip you into a Hungry Jack’s, we will tip you into some stock, and you’ll get a million bucks playing footy for us’.

Just to clarify, is Gary Lyon proposing publicly that WC rort the cap?

You've absolutely nailed it.

When we were shit, they were twisting the knife in.

Now we're good again, we're Public Enemy number 1.

We're so back.
