List Mgmt. Hawk's List Management for 2025

Usually do one of these before the trade period but was caught-up with other stuff this year so here is my post-trade period update! This is what I have at the moment. As you can see, firstly the list is STACKED in terms of talent (which we already knew) but is also pretty close to being completely full as it is. If what I have is correct, then we have 36 primary list, 4 Cat A and 1 Cat B locked in for next year which leaves us with limited options in terms of drafting next month and SSP/MSD in 2025.

If I had to guess, I'd say we are likely to delist-then-rookie one or both of Gunston and/or Breust for flexibility. Regardless, we can only intake a max of 2 players to primary/Cat A list at the moment plus the option of another Cat B player if we want (which I suspect we will re-sign Bennetts with).

As usual, if you spot any mistakes then please let me know :)

Wingard was delisted and was going to be picked up in the rookie draft but Collingwood were sniffing around and were looking to select him in the rookie draft if he was available.

If Gunston or Breust are delisted to potentially be re-rookied, you run the risk of another team potentially selecting them before us. You'd imagine the club might look at a Butler or Bailey MacDonald type to potentially re-rookie.

Might not run that risk either given the risk you run with future free agency like we have to contend with every time Moore comes out of contract.

This means we will pick only 2 players at ND at max. One is quite likely Cody Anderson and other whoever we pick at 33 or at a pick we trade up to.

Does that mean Bennetts will be resigned as Cat B. can be be on cat B list for 3rd year?

Rookies – time on list

The AFL will introduce a trigger for an additional fourth year on the Rookie List where the Rookie has played less than ten career AFL matches, which will then apply in same way for access to an additional fifth year. Total aggregate years on the Rookie List will be capped at five years (5.5 years for Mid-Season Rookie Draft).

This change aims to assist clubs to invest in players who may take longer to develop.

Based on our ball movement I think this is our best starting line up. Swap Lewis with Weddle, and Weddle with Morrison, until Lewis is fit.

B: B.Hardwick, T.Barrass, J.Scrimshaw

HB: K.Amon, J.Battle, J.Sicily

C: J.Weddle, W.Day, M.D’Ambrosio
....(Morrison)
HF: D.Moore, M.Lewis, J.Ginnivan
......................(Weddle)..................
F: C.Dear, M.Chol, N.Watson
..(Gunston)
FOLL: L.Meek, J.Newcombe, J.Worpel

I/C: C.Nash, J.Impey, H.Morrison, C.Macdonald, L.Breust

Switch Gunston for Calsher and I think this is pretty close to perfect

No team is going to be recruiting a 34 & 33 year old.

Frost for Sic and Sic for Lewis. Dear for Gunston.

I love that Tom Barrass and Josh Battle have picked us! Both must be liking our game style, Sam and dead keen for a flag Or three…. Realising that there was not much chance of that at their previous respective clubs, obvious for Tom and sad for Josh. Looking at the antics of some players on holidays, not judging here just making an observation, it will be great to have two senior focused players join the group and take it up a notch.

The main interest that I haven’t seen much talk about is where Anderson is ranked. If he doesn’t get a bid happy days but if he did at say 40 we need pick 47 to match and we only have picks in the 70s. We also don’t have an f3 if we want to trade up. Would you trade blues f1 and upgrade 33 to 22 from the swans if we got 59 back for matching and their f3?

Both our 70's pick will be late 50's by the time pick 40 is called out. So we will have enough points. Suns have 5 picks, Lions -7, Dons - 7. Total 19 picks to vanish and 4 picks to be inserted. So our 71 & 77 will be 56 & 62.

Even if we go into deficit it only affects the points in Future pick for same round. So no biggie.

Cody is not ranked in top 50-60 of any rankings, so most likely to not get bid on.

No need to make trades for points. We trade if we have an eye on someone in particular who is still around when teens picks are being called out.

Is Josh Bennetts the only remaining Hawk on the list that is without a contract for next year? And if not are we expecting to delist anymore players before the draft?

Anyone worried about Dear and Watson having second year blues that a lot of kids in the AFL have.
Dear yes Watson no. They will stop Dear jumping at the ball. Watto just too pure a footballer to stop. He’s been closely guarded his whole career so knows how to deal with it.

Massimo is the other one he will get a heap of work out into him. I would like to see us rotate him thru the centre square next season.

CJ is the ace up our sleeve. I feel like a lot of us have written him off. His best is really damaging and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we have that running machine ball magnet rebounding off the half backline and rotating onto the wing causing headaches for the opposition in the years going forward.
Agree in a team with Barrass and Battle Frost and Scrimshaw holding key defensive spots it allows CJ to use his run in the same way Brad Hill did in the threepeat.

Fair concerns.

This is the big upside of us picking up Barrass and Battle is that we can throw some new formations out up forward to help out Dear and Chol, and Hardwick with Battle/Sicily/Weddle rotating through there is something that will be challenging to plan for. We'll also be able to keep guys like Impey, Amon etc playing attacking defensive running roles to help D'Ambrossio. Jiath is also more important than some give him credit for, and if he get get up and running and play at his best would be a formidable combination with Massimo on the wings. Also if MacKenzie breaks out to become a top line midfielder changes our dynamic as well.
