If he's from SA doesn't he have the option of selecting Adelaide or Port also?
I don’t believe so, neither Adelaide or Port Adelaide have the Development Academies that Sydney, GWS, Gold Coast and Brisbane have. Those academies aren’t targeted at kids from non-traditional football cultures like NGAs, they’re simply there to help kids in the northern states develop.

Nick Blakey is a good example. He nominated one of 3 potential clubs. Could have gone as F/S to Brisbane (John was ex-Fitzroy playing 135 games), F/S to North (another 222 games played by John) or academy selection by Sydney.

I was aware or existed for QLD and NSW sides (see Blakey).

Wasn't actually sure if it was an academy only situation or if 'state of origin' came into it.
I am pretty sure it only applied if your dad played for a vfl club before the current state AFL club came into the comp , example being that Ben Cousins could play for Geelong or West Coast and Freo as his dad played for the Cats before Those West Australian teams existed.

he is.
Usually a player 17 or turning 17 will play up in U18s (if they are really good), rather than down in the U16s. There is no U17s. See how he goes next year against kids his own age.
Fair enough. Will temper expectations for now.

Don’t get too excited over McCabe. He is a 17 year old playing against 15 and 16 year olds in the uNder 16s. If he was that good would be playing in the U18s.

McCabe has a very good kick, is an elite mark (especially intercepting in the air in the national champs), is quick and reads the play very well. Hardly ever played as a KPD, but managed to get the best player in SA’s U16 Championship winning team playing CHB, albeit as an overager. He appears to be more natural on the Wing.

He is actually tracking very well at the moment.

I just re-watched the 91 GF to remember Paul Dear & I had forgotten just how good Stephen Lawrence was in that game (& that finals series)

I hope young Jerome is made of the same stuff
Stpehen Lawrence had a huge impact on the game. He got rubbed out for that accidental elbow and spent a bit of 1992 watching. Was never quite the same player after that.

Potentially 3 F/S in 3 years, if all things progress in the best possible way.... would be unprecedented for us.

I don't expect it to come to fruition, of course..but here's hoping...
