Have Richmond passed North and west coast

West Coast have botched their rebuild.
This year was really ground zero even though they started several years ago.

I’m not sure they are in front of Richmond. Will be interesting to see how the kids develop for both this year.

North well ahead of both WC and the Tigers.

I actually don't think North are ahead.

If they are serious about taking a big step forward this year, they would've won last night against a depleted bulldogs side.

They didn't and I haven't seen anything else, from previous years or the preseason, to suggest that they have progressed.

You could argue West Coast haven't even fully begun their rebuild, they still have older guys they need to get rid of before they move on.

But Richmond looked good.

Losing Kelly, McGovern and Cripps at some point in the next two seasons will hurt.

Wrong drafts to be trying to replace them as well.

I’m enjoying the Tigs supporters puffing out their chest after a round 1 surprise win. It feels to me they’ve gone a bit early but let’s see.
I think the comparison is between three sides very much at the bottom end of the ladder. Richmond should be well behind in their rebuild having started after both North and West Coast.

With expectations on North to improve this year (they’ve won 15 of their last 108 games) a new coach at West Coast and an influx of draftees after a player exodus at Richmond, the paths taken have been quite different to date.

Make no mistake, at least two of these clubs will be bottom two this year and I think mine will be one of them.

I'm sure they will have some bad losses this year but just enjoying the win I suppose.

Saying weve passed anyone after 1 game is ridiculous. I thought North were ok, just dont know how to win at this stage. Id still have us as a 3-4 win team at best, North should get 6-7.

West Coast no idea where they are that. 4 years into a rebuild with minimal high draft picks, playing players like Hunt, Graham, Owies, Brockman from other clubs just seems odd. Even paying a premium for Baker when you are at the bottom is a weird move. I think theyve gotten it completely wrong to this stage, but maybe Reid and Allan go and they absolutely smash the next 2 drafts and all will be good.

Richmond are a lock for bottom 2, likely with the Eagles but I think North will be a far better side this year and probably win more games than WC and Rich combined
Sadly I agree.

North will win a handful of games.

WC will be spooners I reckon and we wont be far off.

West Coast look a mess. Paying up to bring in Baker and Graham when they already had plenty of mature players looked questionable. And there seems to be absolutely no resilience in that group at all.

Guys like Nankervis, Vlastuin, Lynch, Broad, etc seem to give really proud efforts every time they play and demand that from their younger teammates.

But North should be a long way in front of Richmond this year. They probably need a little while to gel with the new players but they really should be thinking 8+ wins this year given their list is now maturing.

Can't possibly judge after 1 game.

Maybe after 1 month or more.

A great win but surely nobody expects Richmond to dish that up every week. Wish such a young list they will be very inconsistent and likely fade in the second half of the year anyway.

Obviously the dream is North finishes 18th and we finish 17th so we get picks 1&2 but at this stage I think it's safe to deduce that Richmond will end up with two top 5 picks in the last uncompromised draft before Tas enters the comp, which is a great place to be.

Last Thursday's game was more about Carlton's incompetence than how good Richmond were

We know exactly where our team is and thats year 1 of a rebuild with 8 new kids and another 3 expected end of the year
Richmond had alot of things go right and we capitalized on our opportunities and got the win.
Carlton on the other hand is in a world of pain with the loss of that game , Their confidence would be shot and the self doubts would be massive.

North are currently further advanced than Richmond and should win 6-8 games
Richmond likely to win 2-3
Eagles are 2 years away from Bottoming out and unfortunately that coincides with Tassie coming into the AFL

In 4 years time
Richmond should be ahead of both Eagles & Roo's
Richmond has the KPP both in defence and foward and 50% of the midfield required to complete the rebuild

Defence : Gibcus , Brown , Blight , Trainor , Trezise , Smith
Foward : Armstrong , Sims , Faul , Ryan , Rioli , Campbell , Clarke , Alger , Green
Midfield : Lalor , Smillie , Hotton , McAuliffe , Sonsie , Pick #1 2025 , Pick #2 2025

Had one comeback win against an insipid Carlton.

By all means, go ahead and celebrate the win but don't forget Richmond also beat Sydney last year and look how the rest of the year panned out...
We beat Sydney with a full list. This time around it was mostly a side of youth. Can’t compare.
