Have Richmond passed North and west coast

Well, you’ve managed to beat Carlton. What an unexpected and delightful win.
But simply for the record…..

In North’s first year of being crap, they won their first 2 games of the season incl GWS in Sydney
In West Coast’s first year of being crap, they beat Collingwood in Melbourne early days.

It happens

Showed way more fighting spirit than either North or the Eagles that's for sure.

That victory was pure grit. Can't teach that.

Talent wise the cupboard is still bare but they've got plenty of good characters to help guide the draft crops of the next couple of years.

No.
West Coast and North still ahead of Richmond and will win more games than them this season. And so they should.

But if they lose Harley and LDU respectively this off season, the gap closes significantly.

Definitely pure grit, but I'm not sure the cupboard is bare when it comes to talent.

Have just seen what might be significant improvement from the likes of Banks, Green, Campbell, heck even Dow stood up.

Brown, Ross, Miller, Mansell have all shown they can contribute.

Draftees of Lalor, Trainor and Armstrong I thought all looked good.

There's still another 6-8 draftees that we haven't even seen yet.

I suspect there's plenty of talent to come!

Rebuild what rebuild
Probably, even when pumped in the first quarter Richmond didn't look physically beaten, but in 2023 North won the first two, one of those being Freo in Perth. Ridiculous results can happen early, and one just did.

75% goal accuracy helped and should be common at AFL level, but few manage to do it regularly.

I think North are going to be good this year . The penny is going to drop eventually and if they can rack up a couple of early wins to get the confidence up then I’m not looking forward to playing them in. Rd 4 or Rd 5 whenever it is .

Richmond have been really smart though loading up before Tassie compromises the draft .

Had one comeback win against an insipid Carlton.

By all means, go ahead and celebrate the win but don't forget Richmond also beat Sydney last year and look how the rest of the year panned out...
The next week we lost Gibcus, then Lynch then progressively the entire midfield. Dow was our senior mid for a good chunk of the year. 5 ACL's etc.

Yep, was a pretty horrid injury run, for sure.

Bit too early to be jumping the gun and saying 'rebuild complete' though, considering it's been one game against a team that just packed it in after the first quarter.

Rebuild far from complete. The cattle might be coming along but a few injuries to key players and it's trouble again.

I've said all along we aren't as bad as the media make out, but we have to fight like cats and dogs to get these wins, which you can't do all season. Carlton didn't really pack it in, we were very ordinary early pretty much giving the ball back to them. Once we fixed a few things we got back into the game.

You can't take to much notice of the first round, strange things happen opening round, but Carlton did seem a little short of A grade talent.
