Speculation Harley Reid [OOC 2026]

It’s quite obvious by the offers made and the comments from their coach that Reid is looking to leave and the Eagles know it.

Buddy vibes. He's definitely going. And the reason I think he hasn't told them, is because he's obviously decided he wants to a club which has little assets, Geelong or Hawthorn.

I think getting to Geelong will be even harder, so at this stage I can't see anyone other than Hawthorn.

That's not what I asked you.

I asked who will be able to offer three first round picks. You're answer "the other team will work it out" is just a lazy response. If your list management sees it the same way as you, he'll be going for one first round pick, rather than two.
Presumably if a club has nothing like the trade assets WCE want, Reid wouldn't even nominate them in the first place. Possibly not even request a trade.

Even if he’d decided he’s going he wouldn’t have told them in April.

I don't know about you, but generally if someone offers me a two million dollar contract per annum, I tend to sign pretty quickly, there's always a chance the contract might not be there in the future. Why hasn't he signed already?
Because others are offering the same amount like Essendon

Hawks are not offering the same amount so won't be in the conversation. If you can't afford Worpel you ain't affording Reid

Since when can’t Hawthorn afford Worpel? 😂

Yeah if they can fix the work rate and contest work it would go a long way
Its interesting you say this, Ive been banging on for a couple seasons now how they can't win the ball from any contest and its all about work rate and effort. If players aren't pushing their limits they are either unfit, injured or don't care..which is it ?

He's not going to Essendon, otherwise you'd already know.

Hawthorn don't have to offer the same amount if salary, they have much more to offer. He can make up the money in other ways.

I'm sorry but it's just the way it is.

As for Worpel, he's currently our 3rd best mid, and soon could be our 4th or 5th best mid with Mackenzie and even just Ward looking better in the midfield.

And if Worpel leaves, we have even more money to spare, your argument is completely falling apart.

It's another JHF situation, or at least similar

  • No 1 pick playing in a (currently) poo/shithouse club. Note: WC will come back strong
  • Wants to move interstate
  • Signs of petulance on the field, light touch though
  • Slightly more options for trade though
Hope he stays, reckon he'll be a beast

Oh yes the contract rumors are always false when Hawthorn players are involved :D
You’d have to be a bit special to think anyone is trying to jump to Melbourne right now.

Essendon bound if I had to guess
He's 100% going to Hawks on 300k per year for a 2nd round pick and future 3rd because he respects Sam Mitchell so much

WCE will just have to deal with it and be thankful Sam doesn't ask for a 1st round pick in return also

Dons will offer their first and Melbournes and that should get the job done. Plenty of cap space too

Why would the Dons do this trade? They should be taking their assets to the draft, not trading in a big fish who's potential has been capped by their shit attitude. Freo has tried this method many times and it has always come back to bite us.

Why would Essendon trade in arguably the best midfield talent the AFL has seen in decades who's still only 19 years old? Seems a fairly obvious one

That is his potential, not his current output. Essendon have needs in multiple positions that need to be addressed if they are to get out of no mans land. HR is not some messiah that will magically fix all of their problems overnight.

IF he chooses Geelong, and I think the wheels are in motion -

Bides time, nominates us, Geelong offers 2xR1 in 2026, Eagles scoff, we add a 3rd R1 with something coming back to make it look better and HR starts on 900 going up 100pa over six years finishing at 1.5.

Doesn’t blow up our structure, everyone’s on board, HR has 15 years playing for the club he grew up supporting.

Eagles simply aren’t in the position to knock back 3 first rounders to make a statement.

Such is life.

You all think the wheels are in motion for every player in the AFL who's ever mentioned. Cats have little to offer compared to other Melbourne clubs and given he's under contract for another year he's not really going to be able to pick where he wants to go regardless of the offer being put forth to WCE.
