Speculation Harley Reid [OOC 2026]

Just so Im clear...

WC shouldn't have split for Ginbey and Hewett despite being locals, instead should have just taken Sheezel or Wardlaw (who had as much go home noise as Harley)

But they definitely should have split the Reid pick and taken the best WA talent the following year...

But then last year they shouldn't have split pick 3 even though they got the best WA talent plus extras

🤔

Did the same person make all of these statements?

I don’t see anyone in this thread that isn’t a WCE supporter suggest he is worth 3 top end first round picks though.

Any club needs their head read paying that

Essendon have four firsts they can trade. Two of those are this year and on Rd 3 ladder position are top 10. That is why that is the price being discussed. Plus it is well known the kind of offers clubs had on the table before the 2023 draft.

If I was Essendon I probably wouldn't try and trade for him this year. But then I don't know anything about the prospects in this year's draft and no one really knows what Essendon's strategy is. If Essendon are rebuilding there is a good chance they are bottom 6 next year when HR is out of contract. But I think the idea that any club will just offer two picks this year and get a deal done is a bit fanciful.

FMD,,, There has only been 3 games played this season why don't we just wait till the end of the season before you make bold statements that make you look football uneducated
I don’t need to wait till the end of the season, I already know.

If you can’t see that Harley has gone backwards at an alarming rate, then indeed it’s you that is footy uneducated.

Go have a read of your own board and see how the smarter ones are onto it.

ATM the guy is good for about 7 to 10 touches and giving away half a dozen free kicks and trying to fight anyone who dares look at him.
I can also tell you that a lot of his teammates would be privately seething that he can’t handle the fact he can’t bully everyone like he did a junior level and that he can’t cope with it and it’s at his teams expense.

Seriously blind Freddy can see all this.

Harley Reid is having a terrible year and if he was not HR he would be dropped already
End of last year you would have thought he was ready to explode in 2025 but its a very very different player we are watching in 2025.
If he is not fit dont play him , If he is not doing what he has been told to do on the ground then again drop him to the WAFL. It wont get better if he keeps performing at such a low level but hope the kid comes out of it and gets back to what we all know what he can do.

You trade what you're got, so end of year order will be very different to round 3.

Death riding those Hawks 💀☠️🤠🤣😂
You should be death riding Carlton then, we don't hold our own picks.

He is 19 and it is his first year of dealing with taggers
He will learn, it takes time and development.
He will turn into an elite player and that is guaranteed
.
Hawthorn would be queuing up to sign him as is proven by your snipey coach already trying to get into his ear.

Nothing in life is guaranteed young fella.

If Harley was playing at a half decent club he would have been dropped by now.

Speaking of snipey do you think he was more or less snipey, than a certain X WCE coach?

Blind Freddy can see the guy that hasn’t had less than 12 disposals is good for 7-10 disposals? Interesting.

Does Harley want to leave the eagles that badly that he'd leave one rebuilding club for another?
Or maybe it's the location? There's no indication he is leaving West Coast because they are rebuilding. He was always a flight risk so if he so badly wants to go this year, then it's pretty slim pickings as far as contenders go.

Two top 5 picks in this draft and your future first, with a future second round pick going back.
After what West Coast accepted for Barrass, you're only setting yourself up for disappointment. The two firsts (if they end up being top 8) from Essendon will be enough unless he becomes a brownlow contender or has the consistent impact that Nick Daicos had in his second year.

If they want to capitalise, then that's the best deal. Otherwise, West Coast will be settling for a late first and an F1 from Hawthorn next year.

If he ends up at Essendon I would spew up.

Bit rich of any #1 pick to not want to play for a team that is rebuilding. Like how did you think the draft works?

The reality is this time last year the footy media were jizzing themselves over HR. Even this year they were talking about $2m a year to get/keep him.

Maybe he hates every minute of being at WC or living in WA or both but it didn't stop him getting BOGs in his first year so if his form continues to drop off something must have changed.

checks which team I follow. 🏆 Nope, not going to be disappointed which ever way this plays out.

Harley is under contract for 2026. If Essendon really, really want Harley, they have to satisfy West Coast, otherwise West Coast keep ahold of Reid, and auction him off at the end of 2026.

Essendon might not get a second shot at Reid.

We've seen players under contract request a trade, only to be told no by their club. Then a year later, leave for a different club, when they were out of contract. You have first hand experience of that with Daniher.

And it's not like Essendon will have the PSD threat at the end of 2026 either.

agreed

WC should keep him

2 x Top 10 picks is on the money.

3 x Top 10 Picks is what is fanciful. Not even mid 20's prime time Chris Judd went close to that.

Essendon's future picks will be Top 10's also.

WC should just keep him if he's that valuable to you. No Club, even one as dumb as Essendon (and make no mistake we are dummmmmmb) is going to give you that deal for this kid.

Essendon is on the record saying they will get talent through the draft. That statement and spending our entire draft hand on a fat, lazy kid doesn't add up.

You are better off re-signing him, or deal with hawks next year. Either way bombers should play no part if 3 x Top end firsts is the asking price. I'd laugh myself out of the room and get on VA680 back to Melbourne and forget it.

Norths f1 was traded for pick 26 and a f2,

If the trade was 5, 10 + f1 for Reid + f2, Essendon would be stoked.

Why are you telling us what we would be stoked about?

That deal is shit for us

Are you the Essendon football club? They’re bite the eagles hand off.

Why would our club be stoked about giving all our picks up when they literally openly said they are going to go to the draft and get talent.

You are imagining us wanting to the deal you want. That trade sucks for anyone that’s not WCE.
