I figure there is nothing to lose by following in Fagan's footsteps and going on a bit of a fishing expeditionšŸ¦šŸ¦
To me this is the best way to go about about getting a job.

Make your case so compelling that they're left with no option but to create a new position for you.

Good luck!

I have applied for several jobs over the last few years but the only work I have got was though my existing contacts or by meeting people and asking if there were any opportunities now or in the future.

Thank you briztoon, Gadzorks, MSB Roys and BrainofMorbius!! It means the world. I will try to check big footy more frequently - I actually went through a few of these threads when researching for the video - and maybe even participate :)

I definitely don't fit the role they are currently advertising, am not interested in management and I truly believe that I wouldn't even make it through the AI filtering process currently being used for most job applications.

But I am considering writing to the Lions' content/media department to share this video and to put myself forward for consideration for future media roles and/or experience. However, I would also argue that I believe there to be a gap in current Lions media (youtube) and make a case from there. IDK if anybody else has noticed this gap but I think it would at the very least give them something to consider??

Iā€™m not sure that the pay is too good unfortunately. Might be better off applying for the senior coach position when fagan retires. Your coaching ethos can be showing the boys pump up videos before games each week.

This is how I got a job at ALDI. Refused to leave the produce section until they gave in and paid me as their head of security.

Did you take the nails youā€™d put in the strawberries out after they hired you?

Could be worth sending the same email over to the AFL too - AFL media has people whose entire job is creating video packages etc.

The pay probably isnā€™t miles ahead of what the lions offer, but more opportunity to develop skills - and access to cheap footy tickets too.

Another tidbit that popped back into my mind...

There's often the saying "you need to lose one to win one", talking about Grand Finals. I'd looked up the result of that after we lost and it was BS. If anything, it was the reverse - the winner was often the first time they'd made the GF (unless they're a repeat winner), and the loser was never heard of again (Port, St Kilda, Freo, Adelaide, GWS).

It nagged at me the entire preseason last year and then promptly slipped from my mind once it became apparent that we were pretty solidly fell into the latter category.

The net result - we're only the second team to "lose one to win one" this millennium, other than West Coast twice (winning in 2018 after losing in 2015 - I keep forgetting this one given the three year gap, and 2006/2005).

I agree - if you looked up most of these teams they had been bundled out in finals in the recent years before breaking through for a flag, that's what I always took it to mean even though they specifically mentioned Grand Finals. Has there ever been a team to win a flag after not making finals in the 5 years (or so) prior? Would be interesting to see.

Itā€™s called value adding for the customer Elixuh. Weā€™re in a cost of living crisis so a free nail with every strawberry is actually appreciated by our customers.

Swans should be interesting this year. I'd say Horse was intending to step down win or lose but the haste with which he did it and the way they played looked a bit like an end of an era in a way.

The penny's probably dropped that you won't be winning flags with the keys that they had so the priority now will be to find a couple to get the most out of the rest of their team. That probably means offloading some talent.

They had the chance to draft a couple of pretty decent KPFā€™s in the first round and passed on them last draft.

Instead they went for a small, classy half forward, and a high flying, speedy medium forward.

Yes it's interesting because their real current need are KPP'S imo. Could be a while before drafted KPP's have any impact.

Plus Blakey got found out when the pressure was on compared to the impact he could have on the SCG.

I wonder whether that form they showed in the first half of 2024 might be a bit of a flash in the pan.

If Warner leaves, they should get a pretty high pick from West Coast, plus they have 3 decent academy kids this year. Two of those academy kids are 190cm plus, so with another growth spurt, could end up KPP height.

There was some talk from their inner sanctum post match ,which is second hand gossip so take it as that , that when they saw Daniher and Andrews at either end backed up by Hipwood and Payne , they realised in hindsight they were a bit small and lacking KPP size and quality.

Plus Fort and for that matter Oscar are a probably bigger than Grundy.

Interesting that our KPF and KPD set up was in anyway a surprise when all clubs playing us (prior to 2025) knew we set up with Andrews and Payne (or Joyce) and Joe and Eric up forward.

Souns like piss poor planning on their part given thats how we are always structured including either O or Fort in the ruck.

Also, I thought they over-cooked it with their 3 KPF set up in the GF anyway, so genuinely suprised they thought they were too small. Perhaps in defensive stocks, but certainly not up forward. I mean they all did nothing and one of them (McDonald) shouldn't even have played.

That is a strange take from losing a GF if true.
It is not like those 4 players are of unknown quality
I would have thought after we beat them in R19, that may have been the time to come to that conclusion.
Admittingly Joyce played instead of Payne that day, but they are a similar size.

Well that is just weird, itā€™s not like we changed anything up.
We had been running with those same players and structure all year basically.
Other than Fort for Oscar, which wasnā€™t any structural change.
I could see the fans thinking that but not internally.
But they do lack KP depth for sure.

Well I didn't mean it just occurred to them on GF day. They already knew all that. I think though the reality of the day and the analysis in hindsight it brought home to them that they were not really big enough. It wasn't a matter that they could do anything about because they didn't have anyone big enough of comparable quality.

It was more the point about what can they do about it in future .

I'm not sure whether it's appreciated by fans but it's rare to have players the size of Daniher and Andrews at either end who are as good as they are.

When I speak to people from other clubs who are reasonably savvy about the game they always give the same answer to the one player of ours they wish they could have at their club .

Andrews.

Hi Jessica, Welcome to BigFooty.

Thank you so, so, so much for the video.

I think I can speak for everyone hereā€¦

The Lions Social Media Team need you so, so, so badly. Please apply for the job they have advertised.

Ignore their job requirements on their add, just email them saying you want the job, and include your video.
we could all sign a reference letter :)

Nah, Andrews is a hack. Never (almost) picked as an AA. ;)
