There will definitely be more Fages mic'd up for the GF content at some point - the AFL usually release that GF week. Funnily enough Longmire was mic'd up too but there were some 'technical difficulties' in the swans box so the audio was 'lost'.
It's not great when you consider the amount of money spent on entertainment and other things on GF day.
Not sure what would be worse having no stats being the Lions issue to the Swans mic issues.
Just another thing coaches have to deal with on GF day.

Appreciate the ongoing love, guys! I'm too jealous to watch these because I'm bitter thinking of all the things I could have done with that 4k game footage, behind the scenes footage and interviews:tired::tearsofjoy: Just kidding, it was my 25th birthday yesterday, so I was busy eating cake but I'm keen to watch both of them today.

One thing I'm glad about is that I focused my movie on the full decade before - I feel like it makes it unique to anything put out by Fox, AFL or the club and will keep my video relevant despite new premiership content. I hope so anyway lol
Is there a link to your doco, sleepylion?

Weirdly, the audio also mysteriously didn't work in the swans box in the 2022 GF. What a coincidence!

I love Browny, but the references to his premiership era felt a bit clunky and almost a little disrespectful.
It felt like he was aiming for establishing "we're all mates, we all played for the same club, we all achieved the same", but the net result was inserting himself into the focus on the 2024 premiership.

Yep.

Didn't work. We heard more from Browny than Cal ,Will and Harris . I suppose it would've depended on availability but it would've been interesting to hear from say Payne , his injury battle, the Geelong tackle or just some other players or even a coach that we haven't heard much from before. Answerth was a great story in 2024 , how he got himself back in and the role he played , the centre clearance against Geelong.

They hyped the thing up for weeks so it just felt flat with same old.

Agree 100%. On that centre clearance, Answerth stumbled but kept his balance, compared to the previous year when Dunkley fell over. A game of moments.

Fox love pumping up their own employees and favourite players, while focusing on the Victorian audience.

In Browny's defence, he was being himself. It was up to the director and editors to pick an appropriate venue, host and narrative.

I love Browny but I would have preferred just the players & Fages chatting through the montage of clips. I guess he is there to obviously steer the boat a bit, understandable but it kind of took a lot of feeling out of it. Still nice to get there thoughts on key moments throughout the season.

Pound the rock was definitely better overall for a multitude of reasons, most notably just felt more emotional plus a tiny tad more BTS stuff.

Look at us all dissecting the aftermath movies of a Premiership. Wind the clock back 10 years and we would have just been happy to not lose by 60+, let alone debating if our premiership aftermovies were much chop! :p

"Pound the Rock" was excellent. Lots of game footage and thoughtful, short answers to questions, which was combined with some new miked up footage. Would watch again.

Thought that "Dancing on thin ice" was OK but not that many real insights for Lions fans that have consumed every last piece of footage and interviews.

Both could have done with a graphic or two showing the ladder by round. Perhaps showing how the stats were similar (except for accuracy) between 2023 and 2024. I also thought thee were some cracking games (Dogs and Port especially) that weren't mentioned.
My favourite part of dancing on thin ice was when we started on our 9 game winstreak and they set it to Immigrant Song by Led Zep.
That bit was awesome.

Ah-ah ah... Ah-ah ah...
We come from the land of the ice rain and snow wind...

Just replayed Dancing on thin ice. Reckon people are underselling it a bit. Not perfect, but insight full - as in getting to know the players involved. Brownie directed the conversation well, IMO, and it left me feeling better for seeing it.

Would love to see one of these things with some of the lesser-known players. A lot of Zorko, Neale, Fages etc post GF
  • Lester has a great back story to go with the doco
  • McKenna’s perspective from the bench all day must’ve been a seriously frustrating day for him/ his road to winning the cup also interesting
  • Fletcher/Fort/Bailey/Payne/Answorth all would have interesting takes that we haven’t heard much from

I would pay a lot of money to have access to the full GF day with Fages micd up. That moment when he said we’re a goal away from breaking their hearts and the half time clip saying q3 was about us not them hit the nail on the head of what I was feeling as a supporter at those moments. Would be a riveting watch

I remember they mic'd up Hardwick and Scott for the 2020 Grand Final for the story/doco for that Grand Final.

High pressure situation, the Stakes are high. Fagan would of went through all of that too.

That the stuff that made our premiership so special IMO.
I completely agree, but to spend half the documentary on setbacks and then blaze through so many of the good times was disappointing. For example, we could have had some more insight on the GWS final given a lot of our goalkickers were present, or on specific moments of the Grand Final.

Yes from what I've heard I believe the "technical difficulties" is code for "Longmire absolutely losing the plot". Probably ripped his mic to shreds or something.

Overall I enjoyed both of them. To me it's a bit like pizza; even when it's bad it's still good. Perhaps we sort of tune into these presentations hoping to feel those feelings we felt on 28 September, but the truth is, the only way we can really get those feelings again, is to see our guys (and/or gals) get back up on that podium again.

I think Simon Black described it best in Dynasties: winning a flag is a bit like eating junk food. It tastes great at the time, but it's not very nourishing - you just crave more of it.

Honestly I watched most of them with a smile on my face, without actually realising I was smiling until right at the end haha

Post the 2022 GF I think it was reported that the Swans refused to participate/approve use of the audio or something to that effect. Matches up with how tightly wound up they were heading into last years GF. You’d think they’d have learnt, as we did, to embrace.
