I’m doing rapid fire takes this week so haven’t checked to see if this is a good or bad take, but did the Swans form start to tank when Heeney was suspended and there was all that Brownlow furore? Feels like they started to come off the boil around then and really came back to the pack and never recovered.
I read some stats last week which said Sydney hadn’t been the best team in the comp for a while.
Let's go with that because it is funny.
In reality, reckon being so reliant on perfect ball movement because your forwards are average is a bit of a red flag.
Josh Jenkins was talking post-game about how the 2017 crows were super reliant on kamikaze transition footy from the D50 and then just ran into the Tigers defensive buzzsaw in the grand final, and reckons theres quite a bit similar in the 17 crows and this years swans. 2017 crows were a lot more talented at either end though.
When teams cut off the corridor, forcing turnovers the Swans had to become more conservative and go down the line, and then they started to lose games.
Port couldn't beat them in the prelim because of Hinkleyball bombing it onto Charlie Dixon's head and having bad defenders, but they smashed them in the middle.
They also couldn't defend against uncontested mark games all year - all their losses bar the one to the dogs they conceded over 100 marks.
