Not sure we should get too carried away about our winning spirit. It's really all down to Tex in this game, otherwise we'd be talking about the three players that all missed opportunities to win.
Did you notice also that it was Tex's lace-out pass to McHenry (waaaaay open) that gave the Crows a one-point lead?

After that on the kick-out, Tex is slightly to the R of the goalsquare about 30m out, unmarked, and shows plenty of footy nous to lead to that open pocket as soon as the Daniel kick goes wrong.
That's 2 major Dogs' defensive errors in about 30 seconds; both exploited by Tex, whose smarts have got to be rubbing off on the kids around him.
(Pause the match reply at 1.56.00. See that little kid with the Oh-darn-it expression :expressionless: and the clenched fist left-of-screen, behind Walker? Edit: Bulldogs supporter. That could have been me watching other major forwards do magic like that and wishing they played for us :grinning:).

Then, after the Tex game-sealing goal, he and Murphy have a little chat and we can see Tex sneaking up high on that grandstand wing, puts a tackle on Bont, then marks the Smith bomb defensive of centre. The rubbish Mrouch ootf creates the Dogs' last goal opportunity.

Murphy and Keays were huge in the last quarter too, but pulling the win out of the bag??
"Down to Tex" :thumbsu: , for sure.

If Tex continues this form all year, will he be snubbed from the AA side for "reasons".

Should have been in the squad last year.

Even now, they’re still running with “and we all know the reason why he was suspended, so we don’t need to go back over that”

Just to go back over it. In every article that mentions tex. In every commentary so far.

Will we ever hear "Walker, who led the club through the darkest times any AFL club has ever experienced, and who was twice voted best AFL captain..." instead of the now hackneyed "who was suspended for we all know why"?

Nope. This is part of Texs "redemption" arc from a self inflicted **** up.

Puts together a good season, doesn't **** up off field and the world moves on until we're dealing with Texs retirement (as this is now a chapter of his career).

Watched the replay, the missed 50 in the last qtr is embarrassing

Especially when you compare it to what they did pay it for against Rachele in the Showdown.
its happened to us a couple of times this year especially in the dying minutes of games..

Go watch the last minutes of the freo game..

Twice in about a minute on the outer wing our player took a mark/received a free and freo had two players maning the mark (I think it was grundy who was the extra player on both occassions)..

Two players on the mark is a 50m penalty.

Neither resulted in 50’s.

Happened to us last year in the final seconds of the close showdown we lost to port too.

Its a fukn joke.. the rules are strictly adhered to throughout the game and then, in a close game, for some reason the umpires put the whistle away in the dying minutes/seconds and stop paying it..

The stand/running through the protected area rules and they way they are adjudicated on field are a complete fukn circus.

This preseason if you told me that at the quarter mark of the year we would be 3-3 I would have been pretty happy but not overtly surprised.

However if you told me the 3 teams we lost too were Freo, Collingwood and Essendon. And the teams we beat were Port, Richmond and the Bulldogs... I would have said you've lost your damn mind.

This season is seriously becoming Bizarro-world!

The more rules the afl concoct, the more inconsistent umpiring becomes... but unfortunately the AFL prefer this.

The footy media aren't great at dealing with stuff in a nuanced way. And they all want to be seen to be doing and saying the right things on hot button issues like racism, protecting the head etc. A lot of it comes out sounding somewhat obligatory. That said, Tex's suspension last year was for something that goes to character and culture and it does cast a shadow over him in a way that, bizarrely, an act of egregious violence on a footy field doesn't seem to (such as Barry Hall punching Brent Staker). Or for that matter, even more heinous behaviour. AFL has had no difficulty with the redemption of people like O'Loughlin, Carey or DeGoey for instance. The hypocrisy is bottomless.

Tex is my favourite player. I wish he'd stayed captain. I wish he was captain now. I think he is our most important onfield leader and heart-and-soul presence off it. But his language last year was dismaying and it does scratch away at my admiration of him just a bit.

Clearly not from the VFL media, but the ABC is paying attention:
"The speed of Adelaide's improvement has been alarming. It's no longer a flash in the pan and, considering everything good about the Crows is built from impressive contested ball numbers, it feels sustainable."

It's an interesting read:

Wonder what GreyCrow thinks?

Took umbrage at me posting the AFL ladder as it stands at the completion of the round and being a devoted ABC person I wonder if he has a problem with this?

Resilience and grit. Reward for effort. Cornerstones of success.
One of the most common complaints of footy under Craig and Pyke was that our style of play didn't stand up under finals pressure. Nicks has decided to skip that part and go straight to designing a style of play that is completely designed for finals pressure. I am very encouraged by what I'm seeing from him and the coaching panel.

Don't worry about the AA squad for now. I want the Coleman!!

Then, they'll have to pick him at full forward...

P.s.
If Tex wins the Coleman, we've made finals. Just saying ☺️

Lucky Tex saved the game for us after Ned nearly cost us the game missing an absolute standard set shot from right in front.. but I guess it was right on his 30 metre kicking limit.

Deflect all you've got?
Lol. You admit you posted the ladder as a ' look at this' for improvement but when challenged you went to water

Dawson misses and Tex misses and I bet the ladder doesn't get posted or that article comes out.

What is good to see is we are putting ourselves close enough to win it at the death.

Doedee 5/4 gives me an excuse to watch the game again (oh, if I have to ...) :sneaky: .

I thought BoG was out of Keays/Frampton/Walker. Interestingly, there are no Crows in the top-20 AFLCA vote-winners to date.
Not really surprising, given that 4 of our 6 games have been decided by under a goal, which entirely justifies the votes being split between both teams - and nobody was giving us votes in the Collingwood game.

Richmond was the only game where we were dominant on the scoreboard. I think we dominated play against the Dogs too, but we were playing 18 vs 21 all day, so dominant play equated to a close game on the scoreboard (goal kicking inaccuracy didn't help either).

We also haven't had too many players who have dominated multiple games, picking up repeated high votes to move themselves up the leaderboard.

Interesting thought about the 18 vs 21 doggies game. I wonder how the Brownlow votes will fall?? Given the free kick count, I fear we'll be shocked...
