If a player is good enough they generally force their way in. At the end of the day the coach just wants the team to win and whoever makes that happen they will run with. The strongest group of 35 generally wins the flag. The beauty with our squad now is that Nick's has confidence that he could play 6-8 players outside of the current team that wouldn't drop our performance. That's why he needs to keep making changes so players don't leave for opportunity elsewhere and to keep players on their toes. Any players who are out of form for a period, need a rest or are carrying an injury should be rested unless they are a key to victory like Laird or Dawson. Luckily for us Laird and Dawson are very durable and fit.Put it this way, I can’t ever recall thinking:
“geez, player x is unlucky to miss out but player y has shown sufficient form to retain their spot/come in. I’m happy whichever way selection goes.”
As Nicks says, form is fleeting but to have the likes of Berry, McAdam and Worrell to come back, and to have guys like Shoenberg, Crouch, Hateley not in the immediate discussion is very strange indeed.
I feel for Taylor and Nank- they’re gonna be waiting a while for a shot.
