One thing I was thinking last night: it's kind of remarkable, but Port being such flogs around their guernsey and JHF seems to have completely overhauled our public image across the border. We had about six years there where our scandals dominated every discussion of us- this weekend we were the sentimental favourites.

It was pleasing to see us use short kicks to move the ball, rather than just hoofing high balls to their intercept defenders
I watched the replay last night and this was a stand out feature. We cut them to pieces with a short/medium kicking game. Once we tightened up our defense they couldn't get any easy goals and it was game over.

I’d take anything

Tom Rehn calling with Trederrs special comments would be much better than the tripe on Sat from the studio

Guys like Brenton Yates or even John Casey could do it. The problem is guys like Huddo and Dwayne want to call games so they get paid. Maybe once Fox start having their own teams for every game we might see an Adelaide team.

Does anyone know what the percentage is of Adelaide winning it's Home Showdown? Of the 26 wins how many we're our home game?

Can't say I remember too many wins in an Away showdown

I can recall about 5 or 6 off the top of my head. Would have to check

There have been 53 Showdowns of which 27 have been Port’s home games and 26 Adelaide home games. The 2005 Semifinal was our home game whilst in the 2020 Covid-19 season the only game was a Port home game.

Adelaide has won 11 Port home games but has also lost 11 home games.

H 15 wins 11 losses
A 11 wins 16 losses

with Port

H 16 wins 11 losses
A 11 wins 15 losses

We have an opportunity to square the ledger in Round 20.

With good reason, much has been said about the win and our best 6 or so players on the night (Thrillthorpe, I-ZAP Rankine, Dawson, Laird, Rachele, O'brien etc) but I've watched the replay twice and am in the middle of my third viewing of the second half, without the tension of not knowing who's going to win.
There was a lot going on that I didn't notice on the night, especially a lot of 1% acts that are easy to miss in the heat of play eg real, sustained effort, smothers, shepherds etc.
Some observatiions:
--- we kicked 2.5 in the third quarter, but it could easily have been 5.2 or even 6.1 on the back of strong team effort and field dominance after PA kicked their 11th goal. Tex's left-foot snap from about 40m out was touched through for a point (4.23 to play).
30 seconds later, Tex kicked ootf from the NE HF boundary (check out the Port bloke too busy slurping his beer to give Tex any shit like his mates),
Untitled.jpg

then he missed a soda from 35m out on a slight angle. We've all seen Tex nail those and if he had it would have been hailed as a turning point (headline: "Walker turns Showdown; 3 goals in 3 minutes"). In hindsight it was, but they just didn't put it on the scoreboard (rectified in the last 1/4). His forward ruckwork and give to Laird in the last were pivotal.

Not long after, Rachele easily made the distance from 50m out, but missed to the left.
With 30 seconds left in the third, Pedlar snapped to the left as well. All gettable.

I like the 2023 Chayce Jones who was clearly fired up when subbed on for Berry. One of his first acts was to nearly
de-limb Bonner at speed. Might be a good thing that he got him only a glancing blow. He was high-tackled I50, but pinged for htb by bewildering yellow maggots who did their best to get PA on top (Murphy also scragged high not long after, again htb :eekv1: ). Jones' terrific goal in the last came on the back of his own tough smother in the F50. When he plays a full game like that 40 minute-cameo consistently, he'll be picked every week. I sense it's coming. Unlike Milera, Jones is not contact-aversive. With 11.30 to play, watch Milera's clever evasion but when clear he butchers the kick :poov1:.
+1 - 1 = 0.

As well as being highly-skilled, Dawson is a bull and so much more effective on a wing/on the ball. Not BoG however.
Murray very solid all game.
MM, wow, is he really only 19?
Sloane had a very good second half; looks like he's re-acclimatising to the rigours of AFL. We can hope.
O'Brien was much better than I thought on Saturday night; very influential.

Finally, Rankine's third goal was --- no other word for it --- freakish, breathtaking.
OK, two. Two words.

We could have had JHF and Dawson and Rankine, we would have just made it happen other ways. For starters Gold Coast couldn’t demand our 2022 first if it was already gone and we’d get there another way.

Remember we were getting Norths second back in that deal.

Rachelle is the one we would have lost.
As long as Rachele stays I’m more than comfortable with him over JHF

It was a great win. Most of the good bad and ugly from previous weeks were on display however.

We leaked goals early. Conceded two in the first 3 minutes, early on they scored from just about every inside 50. About halfway through the game, or it may have even been the 3rd, they were going at a goal for every two entries I think they mentioned during the call. Dixon nearly won it off his own boot. It tightened up as the game worn on.

The major difference was that we didn't go to sleep for extended periods, kicked accurately keeping us in it all game (except for the 3rd which could have cost us again), did everything right in the last 10 minutes. ROB was great and previously unreliable players stood up in the last with some brilliant efforts all over the ground. Did I mention that we kicked accurately? We lost the lead in the last but didn't fold which was great to see.

Sliding doors moment was Rioli dropping the sitter that lead to Rankine's effort on the wing which resulted in Murphy's goal. I wonder if we would have come back from that if Rioli scored.

Not being negative, just think that this side could just as easily be 3-0, as 0-3. There's a lot to like but a long way to go.

All the scribes were saying that Port was so much more talented than us on paper so should win.

I looked at who of their starting lineup I'd like to have at the Crows and it came down to Rozee, Butters, Pepper Pig maybe on current form, and JHF (project player). Burton too but he wasn't playing.
They really don't have much talent at all, and no depth to speak of. Their problems are much deeper than just Hinkley.
And yet, reading their board, they believe their list is far superior.

Rehnny and tredders would do me

Roo on the boundary still

No rowey !
Erin Phillips would be good as well.

Agree with your points. In terms of not being negative - with the possibility of 0-3 or 3-0. I think this is exactly what you want from a young developing team. Rachele, Rankine, Soligo, TT, Fog, Pedlar, Max and Murray added to the likes of Dawson, Laird, Walker etc

They show enough that they could have one every game - and continued development will lead to grasping more of those opportunities
