3 weeks for Mansell.

What a load of crap. The push was incidental and side on and in no way contributed to the concussion. It's exactly the same situation where Lynch was pushed into the contest during the Carlton games, braced for contact and caught TDK high. Tribunal said the push was incidental to the contact.

This is getting ridiculous. O'Connell chose to contest the ball not knowing what was coming from the other side. Does he not owe himself a duty of care to not put himself in a position where is going to get knocked out? I am surprised that Lynch wasn't cited for his contact on O'Connell.

Confirmed!!

AFL is officially, 100% indisputably, corrupt.

Ginbey goes free, Mansell gets three.

The only difference is the colour of the jumper.
The only difference is after seeing Gibney get nothing, they went "hmm maybe that's a bit ****ed" and sent a memo out saying anyone who does that again will be suspended

Exactly

One rule for WCE

Another for RFC

RFC player had jaw broken also, much worse outcome, which tribunal is super focused on.

100% corruption, absolutely clear this time.

The Ginbey incident caused the AFL to change the rules:

Obviously Ginbey should have been suspended too, but calling this corruption just kinda shows how little you are aware of the world around you

At least we finally have incontrovertible evidence of bias now, the only 'good' thing to come out of this from an RFC point of view?

good for all supporters of the game, surely, as it has laid bare that there is no level playing field in the AFL 'organisation'

Must be the only explanation honestly. The AFL had to do everything they could to to ensure Richmond’s reign over the league came to an end so they suspended Ryan Mansell.

haha perhaps I'm slow! but surely never has the circle been connected this tightly? Usually the AFL takes you on a wending and winding journey to muddy the waters at least a bit.

6 weeks ago you could cave-in an RFC guys face by in pushing him into on-coming players. There is a huge outcry in the media, etc, etc., but AFL says 'absolutely nothing to see here'. Not a visit to the tribunal to test a new case, not even a 'please explain' to the club. Zip.

4 weeks ago you could push an RFC player into on-coming players, then suspend him for being the meat in the sandwich as he braced for contact.

This week, the jumper colour changed, and the AFL has had a monumental about-face?!
Only now, that an RFC player is the pusher, a non-footy act has been perpetrated?

Anyone defending this shemozzle, give me a break.

They didn't change any rules after the Ginbey incident.

They just got caught out with people pointing out how the existing rules covered it.

You made that up.

Most(not all) of our supporters wanted Ginbey suspended.

The current rules allow for that.

We got zero explanation from the MRO to justify his decision, not one syllable.

Now, with no change in the rules, and precedents in-season being binding under the rules, we now see about the 5th player concussed since after a player was pushed into a marking contest.

If they follow the precedent we get no charge, no explanation, no case to answer. If they do something different to that it is an admission they got at least the Ginbey decision wrong.

What decision do you expect?
Where's it say that?

The Ginbey incident caused the AFL to change the rules

If we want to be accurate, the memo came out on the back of Cameron pushing Briggs into a contest that led to Briggs being stretchered off and entering concussion protocols in Opening Round (and also after another 3 incidents in preseason after the Ginbey/Lalor incident.

I said this in the thread on the Richmond board, and I'm going to say it here as well:

I can cop the suspension to Mansell but no suspension for Ginbey if this memo came out before opening round, so we see this come into effect once the season started with proper matches.

But the memo only came out once Cameron nudged Briggs fwd in opening round (far less of a push than Mansell, but if you were to put it through the matrix, would still be careless + severe impact (Briggs concussed) + high contact), yet Cameron was not cited by the MRO.

If the AFL came out and have the memo sent to clubs, suspended Cameron, and then the Mansell incident happened, I'm more than fine with copping the suspension despite what happened in preseason.

They picked Richmond to win 3 in 4 so maybe doing the same for Brisbane?
And they will probably gift the new Tasmanian team a couple of premierships by the early 2030's, after showering them with money that the bigger teams generate to give them a leg up.
