GFL GFL - 2011 PRE season !

Ex Tiger...I do not see any benefit in specifically highlighting who I am talking about..

It is very hard to keep players once they contemplate potentially greener pastures...and in my experience its hard to turn around players once they have made their minds up. There is a good argument that says that if players are unsure about the club, where they fit in or how it is run....well perhaps they are better off moving on anyway...because often the mid season quiet gripes and whinges can cause more damage than any obvious issue..

I understand that some former club leaders were pleaded with to stay over the years and even given senior leadership positions and extra money....only to move to rival clubs purely as players...playing at a club goes two ways...and loyalty can be a forgotten element.....speaking of which a little birdy told me that Ben Raidme assured the club he will play at Grovedale in 2011 should he be available....loyal to the bone and an outstanding character. That's what every club wants....players who want to be there..

Shad, who are the ones you are talking about then?????

My Comments were simply to highlight the type of person that the club should be fighting to keep.
For to long, peolpe that have spent many years with the footy club have packed up and moved on to other clubs without any fight coming to keep them - to name a few: Daniel Fletcher , Luke Rayner, Luke Primus, Drew Kelly, Brett Baldwinson, Tim Barton, Dean Holroyd, Darren Savickas, Richard Buckwell, Peter Wilkinson, Matt Bruhn just to name a few that left the grovey footy club after coming through the junoir system and went to play at other local clubs. (apologies to all the others that i have not mentioned)
I'm sure there are a couple in the above group that would be walk up starts to coach the club or that could be now running the admin side of the footy club.
Dont get me wrong, i do admire the current people for putting there hands up to give time to run the place, but there needs to be some sort of succession plan that keeps these sort of people with 15-30 years involved with the club (juniors /senior), no letting all their experience go to other local clubs...

Shad...
you are absolutly correct, and by the looks of the playing list, that is what has happened - they have all moved on.

Correct me if i am wrong, but are Grovedale playing East Geelong in a practice match at Anglesea this weekend. surely there is no benifit for a GFL team to be playing a GDFL team. i only see a win win for East if they knock over the tigers, and im sure Strobalak will be trying..

Thats correct. Dont know how they will go as i think they have the 2 riordon boys not playing, the 2 ross boys I dont think are playing, Montgomery not playing and Donohue is playing 2's due to cricket so i dont think there will be any harm playing East Geelong for the young players that will play because if they play a quality side they will probably get well beaten, im not sure they will fill 2 sides

Any news on GWSP? How are they looking? Sounds like they have a few good recruits but also lost some quality. Will their coach play much this year? When he is up and going he can be pretty good!

Hey Both Ways...some big calls in there...sounds like you're harbouring some pent up anger against the club...I wonder who you are?? Especially given some slanderous remarks there...
Of the 10 players you named...6 of them have been constantly whingeing for the last many years..not great for club culture...and lets face it..they didn't lift Grovedale into the finals whilst they were there..and had no heart for the club. I would argue that it is sometimes an advantage to get rid of this mentality around a club. Gleeso is a masive loss as he is a quality person and player and goes with some blessings to pursue coaching experience...he may be back before too long..
5 of the list do not have the ability and/or dedication to play top GFL footy....so playing wise no loss..
2 of the most important names on the list will be playing at Grovedale if anywhere....donut..

shad you have no idea mate. you really dont. i can guarantee all your comments are wrong.

East Geelong beat Grovedale easy, 8 goals up at 3 quarter time won by 4, Grovey had at least 8 players out, but so did East I hear.

I dont think they did because the reserve game was the 1st 2 quarters and the scoreline continued on from that game. The main game was the last 4 x 20min quarters.

saw south barwon play in the pre season cup they wernt the biggest side there other teams where much bigger but they were by far the toughest!!! very impressive to beat a strong marby in the final

Can anyone tell me how North Shore are looking at this stage? Good numbers, new recruits, will they again be whipping boys? Can they actually surprise and make finals....?

not sure on ther numba's training but they have got a few bak who had left. mathews drysdale disanto port pyle bph. Briant from nth geelong they got, and a guy from stawell. a lot of people gettin transfer to them but not sure on who the rest are. also the gun burns that play a few games last year can play more games and i herd licura will play some too

What does everyone think about the premiership odds in todays addy?

Lara a suprise for mine at $7 for 3rd favorite. Anything they done that we don't know? any gun recruits?

North Shore:

James Byrne and Paul Licuria are both expected to play 14 - 15 games. Great news for the Seagulls.

Also, they have just signed Will Slade. Former Geelong player who will slot nicely into CHB at Windsor Park.

I think they should at the very least win a few games this season..

any weekend results out there-heard queenscliff beat grovedale and sth barwon thrashed amateurs

Umm we layed Lara (Hoppers Crossing) and they beat us by 28 points. Very good side and by all reports one of the favourites!

We had 7 players unable to play after half time which really hurt us and I think they had 3 or 4 to still come in. Both teams at full strength and injury free would be a great match! Good luck to the Lara boys for 2011.

Lara actually missing 8 starters from the weekends practise match, very excited to see how the boys from the snake pit go this year.

what were st josephs odds for the flag??? former freo and pies star set to sign with them that will shorten there flags odds immensly so get on them!! have heard robbo in great pre season form and cant c him not kicking a 100 and carson kickin 40 to 60 and some quality on ballers to kick 20,s and 30,s and with a solid backline lead by the lovick brothers i think sth barwon v st josephs grand final is as nearly as certain as dane swan gettin over 30 touches a week!!!:)

Like every team in March they were missing 7-8? So in fact it was 3-4? There is a case for us that we were missing 11 or so but really that's just throwing up excuses.

No doubt Lara had some out as we did, either way there a good side and I'd expect them to challenge, the same deal for us at Hoppers.

Good luck to the Lara boys, they put on a great day.

Kidding yourself.. Robbo wont kick 100, and St Joeys will fall over again just like they do year in year out.

South vs Bell Park granny again this year for mine.

haha well time will tell finnigan he got a 100 pretty comfortably in the gv last year after missing a few games and you would agree the gv is on par with the gfl or am i wrong??? the team he played for finished 6th and joeys midfield would be better havin seen both teams and a bad day at the office for robbo still will bring in 4 or 5 goals!!! times that by 18 games and thats 75 to 85 and throw in a few big hauls and its 100?? in the end 85 to 100 is still a goo result and with other options for goals i stand by joeys making the grand final!!! brodie holland signing up will certainly add to the disposal to robbo i would think to! time for a change from sth barwon anyway yeh:thumbsu::rolleyes:
