The Kiwis can't be too down for a first run-out. But for all the commentary praised SJ (and I'm not saying he had a poor game at all), the Kiwis didn't do enough with the field position they had. Badly needed a threat at 6. But of course, the Kangaroos' defence is excellent. Lomax seems to have taken to rep footy like a fish to water.

Dylan Edwards had a decent year....

Won a premiership and his 4th in a row
Won 100% of his Origin games including a series decider in QLD where he was man of the match
Won the comp for Australia going undefeated.

Garry Schofield has revealed that he has been diagnosed with brain damage. Schofield, who previously played for Hull FC & Leeds Rhinos as well as Great Britain, says he is stepping away from rugby league for good.

Schofield confirmed that he received his diagnosis last March, which came after years of eye issues which resulted in his eye being removed in 2021.

Capped 46 times by Great Britain, Schofield won the Golden Boot and Man of Steel during his career that saw him also represent Balmain Tigers, Western Suburbs and Huddersfield Giants among others.

I was diagnosed with brain damage in March 2023 and have kept it a closely guarded secret until now," he wrote in his final League Express column, Pulling No Punches.

"The symptoms, which I will share with you, are horrendous. I've been told I will end up with dementia, so the time has come for me to walk away from the game and concentrate on my health.

"I can trace my problems back to December 2019 when I had an operation to fix a detached retina in my left eye. But it wasn't successful. Five or six days later, it felt like my head was going to explode. I needed seven more operations and three laser procedures.

"Eye pressure should be between five and 23 mmHg (millimetres of mercury), yet my recordings were 82, 79, 78, 68, 67, 58, 44 and 40 which were quite literally off the chart. The hospital told me I should be on the floor, crying out in pain with those readings.

"At times, it felt like my head was going to explode and my eye was going to pop out, so in September 2021 I approached the consultant to ask them to remove the eye because I couldn’t go on living like this I'd already had 56 hospital visits."

He added: "The plastic surgeon agreed the eye was knackered – his words! Removal was the only answer to stop the retina continually detaching and to sort out the pressure. Life with only one eye is difficult, but I've adjusted pretty well, I think.

"Subsequent health problems have included headaches, migraines, forgetfulness, anxiety and lack of concentration, all of which led to my brain-damage diagnosis in March ‘23. Those symptoms are now part of my day-to-day life. My partner, Alison, is now my carer.

"I used to think a migraine was just a strong headache. Now I know what they’re really like, and they are horrendous. When one comes on, it’s the end of the day for me. I have to go to bed and be in complete darkness. They are intolerable."

Schofield also took a parting shot at the sport, claiming it didn't excite him anymore.

What's the read/general feel on the DCE situation? Seems like he confirmed on Channel 9 that he's 100% leaving Manly this year. I reckon he's heading to the Dolphins. It's too perfect of a story considering he began playing junior rugby league at Redcliffe and his old man is a legend there. He can mentor their young players like Katoa and it just seems like a perfect fit for many reasons.

Honestly see him going to the Roosters, makes sense actually big sydney club and I can't see him going to a rebuilding club at all. I'll throw one out there though, Broncos. Reynolds hasn't confirmed yet and Mam is not a 7.

Yep, I'd be staggered if it wasn't the Dolphins.

Seems to have taken Manly by surprise. Calling up 360 to confirm they'd bump it to a two year deal reeked of desperation.

I'd be staggered if it was, unless it's buckets of money. Surely he's looking for a side that can win now so to speak who that is no idea. Reminds me a bit of the Cronk situation when he left for the Roosters. Now the question is, are the Roosters that close, who knows actually. Weirdly aren't too many clubs needing a halfback in a win now although I will throw Brisbane up there IF Reynolds goes, however he wouldn't be on nearly as much, Brisbane will have a squeeze post this year as Walsh's deal enters his highest paid years.

I don't think success is motivating for him, otherwise he'd just stay at Manly.

There is absolutely no way he ends up at the Roosters. It makes no sense for either of them.

Don't see Brisbane being that appealing either. Redcliffe has the draw of his junior footy days.

See I don't see this success at Manly especially with this coach to be honest. I don't see why he'd go to a side to come bottom 6, why even bother, money aside, and sure if a club is silly enough to say here's an open cheque you name the price he would, but really he's in the last 3 years surely he would want one more last crack at a premiership, now where that is is tricky

- Brisbane (the reynolds thing is interesting and he's basically on a year by year thing)
-Newcastle (this makes sense but do they even have the cash, would mean they wouldn't have to play Brown at 7)
  • Bulldogs (I don't think they have the cash but if we are realistic they really lack that 7, Toby Sexton isn't taking them from a top 6 side to winning, DCE would)
  • Rabbitohs (another side that need a 7 but they may just run with Humpries and Dodd)
-Sharks? Do they have the cash for another half? They just spent a million on AFB.
- Roosters, purely for off field it makes sense but I do query whether they are in a win now phrase.

This is all very interesting but he's currently only been linked to the Dolphins haha.

He won't end up at any of the clubs you've mentioned.

No point him coming to the Roosters.

We aren’t contending now, maybe 2027 if the younger guys stick around, and we already have what should be our halves pairing for years if we are smart enough to keep them, in Smith and Walker.

Depends if they want to give Tedesco a one last shot at it before retirement. I agree with you though, those two look the halves long term

Been linked to a number of clubs not just the Dolphins. Dolphins makes less than zero sense unless it's a cash grab

Cash grab and gets to play where he played junior football. The Roosters makes far less sense than the Dolphins do.
