The last time Tiger fans were this excited about a draft haul was 2021. Let's see if Geelong can pick another rising star in the rookie draft this year.

Any worry that Richmond has gone overboard with key position players?

Lynch, Miller, Faucett, Koschitzke, Gibcus, Young, Blight, Gray, Balta, Lefau, Bauer, Faulk, Trainor, Armstrong and Sims is a staggering amount of key position players to have on the list.
Lynch is 32 so irrelevant for when the latest crop will be ready. Miller is a back and we have recruited just one, Trainor, so not really a problem as he looks a Broad replacement.

Kosi out the door no problem. Gibcus, Lefau and Young have had knee reco's so won't be ready until mid season. Gibcus is a big upgrade on Miller.

Bauer is a 3rd tall utility. Faulkner, Armstrong and Faull will vie for the second target behind Lynch, so nice problem to have. Sims looks a ruckman so will be developing. It takes a year or three before young talls and rucks are ready, it's not like they will all be lining up next year.

Well when you draft 8 players, 7 of them in Cal Thomey's top 30 phantom and another projected 35, you have some reason to be rightly optimistic. Nobody is expecting much this year so hardly spirits crushed. Our VFL side will be fun to watch.
I don't think there's anything wrong at all with being excited over a stack of quality kids coming in.

That's the beauty of equalisation, supporters should never be too disheartened because if their side becomes truly abysmal then rewards are on offer. Compare that to the Premier League, where you'd probably be speculating on Richmond sliding down to League 2 over the next few years.

The rest of the AFL needs to pray 4-5 of those key position players don't turn out to be collectively the best group in the competition. Because just in case nobody noticed we just recruited a couple of likely looking midfield guns and will get a second crack at that next year. Top it off with whatever we need in 2026, plus the likely addition of some skilful free agents and voila, just sit back and enjoy watching them get a little bit better every year, until there is no better to get. Hopefully Cats are still playing finals when we get there, because of course, we want to win flags, in style.

Like 1921, 1934, 1967, 1969, 1980, 2017, 2019, 2020.

Lol if it was wogball we'd have won 3 Premier Leagues, 3 FA Cups, 3 European Championships, 3 Cup Winners Cups, 3 League Cups, 3 FA Community Shields, a World Cup & bought a squad so deep our world record injury list would not have had us outside the top 4. Because there were about 4 years there when nobody could touch us. :richmond:

Only 6 years in the AFL era where Richmond have been in the best 4 teams. Many more years in the bottom 4. So yeah, without equalisation the mighty Tigers would've had multiple relegation slides to the lower leagues in "Wogball". Including no chance to even win flags 2017-2020.

Let's hope the new tanking mission eventually bares fruit.

You don't hope that at all. You dread it.

Because 1921, 1934, 1967, 1969, 1980, 2017, 2019, 2020.

You didn't cope at all with the last 3 instalments, the next iteration will likely tip you over the edge, poor bugger.

Yeah it took us ages as a club to bounce back from that stretch. Great observation.

I do hope for it. I don't want your final years angrily shouting at the TV in the retirement village. Those other folks deserve some peace.

Retirement village? I am planning on working til I am 80. No retirement here. Will leave that to stress heads like you.

My only retirement village will be some coastal acres in my new home with a natural swimming pool and the coolest shed you have ever layed eyes upon. Retirement village, lol.

Padded?

There are a few items mentioned in my post. Do you mean, padded coast, padded home, padded acres, padded natural pool, or padded shed?

Anyway, whatever you were referring to, the answer is probably no, I am not thinking of padding any of these things. Can you recommend it? :)
Padded walls in the asylum, I imagine, although as usual I get a chuckle out of your deluded fantasies.

equalisation
Just remember, equalisation was meant for everyone.

But, equalisation was not why Richmond won 3 flags, it was a prophecy by Benny Gale that was fulfilled, a prophecy when made had everyone laughing, so please, don't talk sh*t by bringing up equalisation now, after the fulfillment of said prophecy that no one thought would be fulfilled.

The stand rule was for everyone but Richmond, we didn't need it, but without it, there is no 2022 flag for Geelong, because they couldn't move the ball quick enough against Richmond for Hocking's liking. The problem was, that everyone else could now move the ball quicker against Richmond.

This all leads me to believe that equalisation was not meant to benefit Richmond, but everyone else.

Hear hear UA, couldn't have said it better myself. :)

wtf does this even mean?

We were the second-winningest team between 2017-2020. And in two finals against Richmond we dominated them for a half.
Richmond should be able to give Geelong a decent game in 5 years with that draft haul. Enjoy worrying about how the Cats are doing until then.

Hopefully you can snag a flag while we reload...Scott-era Cat's don't do dynasty's, or win flags while Dynasty teams like Richmond & Hawthorn are on their roll...rather they hover around the mark (which does admittedly deserve credit) and wait till there's a lull in competition...you do talk about being the ''second-winningest team'' and being up at half time in a final during other team's dynasty's though ;)

(before you all start replying about 07-11, yep i know Scott inherited one flag on the back of another coach's dynasty..)
