Still trying to figure out how they've fleeced $60m from the state government to upgrade Alphabet stadium, but Hawthorn have needed to start a Go Fund Me to finish off their new training base, despite also asking for assistance from the same government.
Sounds more like AFL wanted to generate more money buy using MCGBecause the people who designed the concept of an AFL (John Elliot and Ian Collins) wanted Melbourne's grounds rationalised for cost cutting purposes. Geelong was lucky to escape the process. It didn't decide to keep Kardinia Park, the powers that be (at the time) allowed KP to be one of the grounds that remained.
Quite the revisionistBecause the people who designed the concept of an AFL (John Elliot and Ian Collins) wanted Melbourne's grounds rationalised for cost cutting purposes. Geelong was lucky to escape the process. It didn't decide to keep Kardinia Park, the powers that be (at the time) allowed KP to be one of the grounds that remained.
Seemed the overwhelming majority disagreed with that pregame. The main board right now is filled with overreaction threads and comments to Geelong (fantastic win for them) winning a QF against a very finals flakey Port Adelaide.
Geelong are a great club, last night's win doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know in that sense, settle down a bit...
Pleeeeease!Could well do. Depends if the state already has a broader supporter base, or doesn't embrace it.
Geelong started 100 years ago where everybody started supporting them, and no one else. Tasmania might already have a broader supporter base of teams and codes.
If 95% support their Tassie side, they will be just as culturally strong as Geelong. which will also lead to a dominant club. Possibly stronger.
Geelong were good going in to the game and after the game, being tipped the underdog doesn't mean people, don't think they're good, it's just the other team seemed to have the greater chance in the circumstancesSeemed the overwhelming majority disagreed with that pregame.
The poll in the GameDay thread was 133-53 Ports way and before the bounce Geelong had odds of $3+ for a win.
Geelong were widely regarded as the most likely to suffer a straight sets exit.
Yet it's only after we absolutely destroy Port that I see the Port are shit/flaky, Geelong are good posts.
In fairness, it was a really painstaking & treacherous 7 weeks.Imagine when the rebuild is complete. We've only really just started it.
You should be happy and embrace your advantage.
You first.
What pea brains like you continue to pretend to ignore is simply we gain no advantage from those home games.
The last 20 years, the vast majority of teams we've played at KP were easy beats and interstate teams we'd have just as easily beaten at any other venue in the comp.
However the bigger teams we play at THEIR home ground, to THEIR advantage, an advantage they get 15-19 times a year vs our 7/8/9 times vs lesser teams.
A small advantage over a team you beat 90 times out of 100 is irrelevant, a small advantage in a genuine 50-50 game is the difference maker.
How many other clubs finish above a team yet play a "home" final at their home ground, at a time slot that suits their supporters more?
Zero. That's how many.
We've done it almost every season.
You should try to be less of an ignorant clown
Even the fourth quarter provided one of the most incredible GF goals ever.If you exclude the 4th quarter, it was a high quality match plus also it was Channel 10's last AFL match
That is one of the best work rate goals you will ever seeEven the fourth quarter provided one of the most incredible GF goals ever.
Why it hardly ever gets mentioned as such is a true head-scratcher.
Deep in the last quarter of the season. have three efforts the length of the ground and to then be in a position to rover off hands in the forward line shows how much to heart Travis took Bomber Thompson's call in 2007 that he needed to work on his enduranceThat is one of the best work rate goals you will ever see
Goku still training with Kai atm.Someone bump the Geelong too powerful thread.
We're not even full power yet btw.
If this is the case then why aren't the Knights a powerhouse in the NRL?Geelong have a cultural advantage built on the back of their geographical location.
It's the only club with a small bubble country city with 99% Geelong supporters.
For as long as that's the case, they will never be down for long.
If this is the case then why aren't the Knights a powerhouse in the NRL?

Or St George—Illawarra, who also have the benefit of being a powerful club with an enormous supporter base
That's because inflation and property prices have gone through the roof the last 15-20 years. Can buy a huge property out there for probably 1-2 mill, whereas in Melbourne suburb to get that you are looking at 3-4 mill. What a lot of people don’t understand is that greater Geelong was referred to as sleepy hollow. A boring backwater with nothing going for it.
The fact that the club can now entice players to the area for a more relaxed and less expensive lifestyle, they can also buys a few acres just out of town or live on the Surf Coast or Bellarine Peninsula, or in town if they like.
What was once a hinderance is now an advantage so good luck to them.
The club is also well run and recruits well (Mannagh, Humphries etc).
It’s up to the rest to get better, not geelong getting worse.
I feel dirty now.
