Geelong rorting the system

How is it always, and I literally mean ALWAYS Geelong? This is an honest question. Do they pay these players $100,000 a season or something?

Like when Gary Ablett changed clubs.
And Lance Franklin.
And Jason Horne-Francis.
And Brodie Grundy
And Tom Mitchell
And Luke Jackson
And Adam Cerra
And Tim Kelly
And Steven May
And Lachie Neale
And Jaeger o’Meara
And Dion Prestia
And Shai Bolton
And Paddy Ryder

In fact every major trade target, the ones named and those I’ve left unnamed, plus the free agents that I’ve not even bothered to address, have come to Geelong.

I just can’t quite recall the investigation into Selwood’s loan deal with a sponsor, that’s all. And I can’t recall the integrity unit getting involved with Stengle’s 3am OD… maybe I missed it.. although I’m told he’s just had one too many … can’t recall the last time I needed an ambulance after one too many….Or when do we hear the media outcry over Atkins physically and mentally crushing someone in a car crash - imagine that was Balta behind the wheel … ? Or the Catter draftee getting a little punchy with a chick.

I can’t quite recall suspensions or integrity investigations down the Highway….

However, I didn’t miss the GWS players getting multi-week suspensions for playing dress-ups up at a private function.

Why would they.

You seem to have diagnosed it.

How do you know it was an OD.

You seem to be unable to recall a lot. Maybe get that looked at?

He has explained the evidence supporting that conclusion in the post you quoted. Ambulances don't get called for people who have had "one too many" drinks.
To be fair, yes they do - if the person is drunk to the point where it is a legitimate threat to their health. Be it choking on their on vom or a good ole fashioned tummy-pumpin', they are in lethal enough danger to require an ambulance.

Having been in one for that reason, yeah they do, buddy.

I've been around a while. Seen a load of people legless drunk. Never once seen a person taken away in an ambulance to a hospital simply due to drinking too much. I have no doubt it happens but it is rare enough that I have never seen it or had personal knowledge of a case.

But it is well known to be a more regular occurance for people who take illicit drugs.

Why would someone in the public eye say they were smashed on booze when they were under the influence of drugs or a cocktail of the two? Because booze is legal, illicit drugs are not.

Rare according to who? My brother and half my uni social circle are paramedics and the volume of people they’ve had to cart away somewhere passed out drunk isn’t countable.

Why would someone who has overdosed on drugs be waved on their way and go to football training the next day.

Thanks Dr Cheeks.

If someone falls asleep when off their face drunk they need an ambulance? Not in the world I have inhabited. And if you were that smashed on alcohol you are not training at a professional football club the next day.

Geelong & you(and other Cats supporters here) are trying to sell Stengle passing out in a nightclub and being hospitalised, as if it was a result of drinking and nothing else.

The trouble is loads of us opposition supporters know it is much more likely to be the result of consuming illicit drugs, probably with alcohol as well. And many cases where medics are called to passed out drunks it is likely the same situation - they have also consumed an illicit substance in conjuntion with alcohol. This is a perfectly reasonable thing for somebody like me to conclude as I grew up and spent basically all my first 35 years around people who regularly drunk to excess at least on weekends, and I can't recall a single time an ambulance was called for a passed out drunk.

What you are not acknowledging is that if it was the result of consumption of illicit drugs then both the law and AFL rules both mean it would be in both Stengle's & Geelong's interest to lie about that. Especially given Stengle is surely sitting on at least 1 and possibly 2 illicit drug strikes. And his prior drug history also lends itself readily to the theory he was not consuming alcohol alone in that Geelong nightclub.

Yes, in public what do you think happens if someone is unresponsive 😂😂

They just put him on the street and leave him?

What you are not acknowledging is that your unhealthy obsession with the club is making you unequivocally hang, draw and quarter someone and turning a possibility - which it is - into an assumption and a fact. You’re a grown adult using the logic of a 10 year old.

I too grew up around pissheads and was one of them and ended up in an ambulance even as a married man with children of my own due to excess consumption of alcohol.

Grow the f**k up for once mate.

Your post doesn't follow from mine. You are simply wanting to abuse me for having a different understanding of the situation being discussed. It is not like my position on the matter is radical.

It’s not abuse mate. It’s pointing out that you’ve drawn a direct and ‘certain’ conclusion from something that could have had numerous different possibilities.

You use children’s logic as a grown man. Pointing that out and using an expletive isn’t abuse. Don’t play the victim card because I drew attention to it.

Stengle could have taken drugs. He could have, but probably didn’t, have his drink spiked. He could have drunk too much piss and passed out and become unresponsive. A licensed venue took steps to make it the problem of professionals, rather than theirs, as they should.

You have no idea what the issue was. Stop pretending you do.

GEELONG forward Gryan Miers has welcomed his club's "targeting" of star opposition players in the quest for sustained success.

Recent reports have linked Gold Coast gun and former No.1 pick Matt Rowell to the Cattery, including a meeting between Rowell and the Cats' top recruiting brass.

"He's one of the best players in the League, so it's pretty straightforward that our recruiting team are doing a great job," Miers told reporters after training on Wednesday.

"That's what everyone gets cut up about, is that we're targeting great players and we've targeted them in the past and end up getting them. But they'll keep doing that job and that is their job to do, just target the best.

"I actually don't know if we're going for him, but if we are, then good luck to him, good luck to us. If it happens, it will be exciting, and I hope we keep going after those big names.

"We touched on NFL before the press conference – Philadelphia did the same thing, they targeted the big names and now they're going to a Super Bowl. You don't want to sit on your heels and let others take the best players in the League.

"If we fail at getting these players, so be it, but we've got Jeremy Cameron and won a premiership with him, and we've had great success over the other players, we got 'Danger' 10 years ago.

"The only way to get better is by getting better players. And that makes the players like me at the team see those guys come in and go, 'I don't want them to steal my spot', so I'm trying to get a little better as well. All in all, it works with each other.

"'Danger' reckons he's got 10 years left, so 'Rowelly' might have to come and play half-forward with me," he finished with a wry smile.

Come be the next Selwood- Selwood at the same age had 3 premierships 2 All Australians a runner up in the norm smith. Also finished top 5 Brownlow multiple times.

But sure I would take him, love the way he plays and those wet days at the local ground he would be a priceless asset.

The fact that I do not(can not) know the facts for certain does not preclude me from making some reasonably informed speculation.

I know this because in the very post I am quoting now you have done the exact same thing.

The sum of our genuinely ‘big name’ recruits is basically Dangerfield who WAS a huge recruit so fair play, Cameron who was a huge recruit, Ablett who was in his 17th season when he came back to us, and a kid who has never made an All Australian squad let alone team and has missed a whole stack of footy with ACL issues.

I’ve speculated across all the likely possibilities. In almost every post you’ve made on the issue, you’ve more or less implicated him as having ODd.

Don’t pretend that you haven’t.

The man loves all kinds of greenery.

Yeah that's not weird at all.

I wonder if Chris Scott took a sample of a Corio Bay nature strip to the meeting with Rowell? "Here's you go Matty, just a small sample of the outstanding meadow that awaits you in the Geelong Shire"

What is this rubbish? I have never pretended that I don't believe he took an illicit substance. In other words that is exactly what I believe happened. You are trying to create things to argue with out of thin air.

Maybe take a few deep breaths or a break.

We'll know it's really moving along once they get him out to Rhys Stanley's farm to sample the cud.

If it was just excessive alcohol consumption, then why would there not have been any AFL intervention in relation to an enquiry and subsequent punishment - particularly given his previous indiscretions ?

They have given multi week suspensions for dress ups at a private function - they even punished Toby Greene for being an innocent bystander.

If even a remote sniff of anything to harm the AFL brand comes into view they have their integrity unit put into full swing…

So doesn’t it seem strange to you they’d happily turn a blind eye to a player being so drunk that he required the paramedics and an ambulance and hospitalisation from his actions ‘in a public place’ ?

Nobody knows what happened … because there was no investigation. A simple investigation on the basis of bringing the game into disrepute tells us exactly what was in Stengle’s system and an appropriate punishment can be applied.

As you say, maybe it was just excessive alcohol (in a public place) which required paramedics and an ambulance - but if that was the case, then why no investigation and punishment for that sort of off-field behaviour?

Better off getting blind to the point of needing paramedic intervention in a public place than getting dressed up as a twin tower at a private function….

We can all believe what we want to believe… but it’s not really hard to decipher what the ‘most likely’ situation is here and why the AFL decided not to conduct a very simple investigation to find out what was in Stengle’s system.

Hand on heart, what do you honestly believe is the ‘most likely’ scenario that has occurred?
