Geelong rorting the system

Yeah, they are paying a media company that works in partnership with the Australian Government and does not cover AFL.

Interesting development.

He must have bought years ago to get a $2m waterfront house on the central coast.

Hate to be that guy and even feel a little ikky defending Geelong but these deals aren’t new and have never been a secret

Dusty had a similar deal with Puma who just happened to be one of our new club sponsors in 2017

Should the AFL go over these deals? Absolutely but they aren’t anything new

Some players have them with club aliened sponsors and some don’t
What do you reckon the chances are that Geelong players drive anything but a Ford?

My best friend of the last 20 years works for a media company and paid $2 million for a waterfront home on the central coast and sure as hell isn’t on anywhere near the sort of money Bailey smith was on before, or likely to be after, he signed his deal with Geelong, and he has also never had a job modelling clothes.

do you actually get this: smith does not work for cotton on for free. He was already working for them. He has for some time and was probably paid more by them than he has made playing football. He is already rich 😂

I've heard Mission are trying to sign up Jeremy Cameron to sell tacos after seeing his new moustache. sternface

Relatively low but probably similar to the amount of richmond players and staff who drive jeeps and that is despite Jeep not even being a sponsor of Richmond for a number of seasons

Although even during a Jeep years Cotch had a paid partnership with Mercedes and always made sure he had his Nike gear on whenever the cameras went out even in the puma years

Surely most of those Jeeps would be approaching the end of their natural lives anyway?
Don’t think they own them, they are generally on lease deals from the dealerships and upgraded every year

New rort unlocked. Ablett - while getting paid by Gold Coast - was recruiting for Geelong.

Who cares. The fact is that he spent $2 million on a salary a f**ktonne less than what Bailey Smith has already been on and will be on in the future.

Interesting story. Checks out.

Yes it’s much less believable than ‘well paid sports star with lucrative sponsorship deal buys property.’

That’s one that no one will ever work their head around.

Eric Hipwood - sponsored by no-one of note but the best forward since Gordon Coventry - owning a 5-bedroom house that was recently listed for $3.75 million is normal but Bailey Smith with one of the best known sponsorship arrangements in the AFL buying a home for $4 million is scarcely believable.

Cal Ward bought a $5 million dollar home in Bondi two years ago. Not sure he and his wife have the deals that Smith has but I’m not up on what influencers earn.

But at any rate we know that Smith didn’t buy this legitimately. Only players from 17 other clubs actually own their properties.

None of those players just turned 23.

No doubt he's accumulated a decent piggy bank from the years Footscray have been rorting the cap via the Cotton On sponsorship. AFL stood in the way of Ablett Jnr getting third party sponsorships at Geelong but had no qualms about Smith signing lucrative off-field deals at Footscray. Some clubs just get all the luck.

None of them are used as the face of nationwide advertising campaigns for a clothing company that posted sales of $2.2 billion last year.
And McDonalds, and Monster Energy, and Kayo Sports, and CoinSpot. What kind of a racket were Footscray running?

We could learn a thing or two about how to rort the salary cap from these guys...

Imagine the whinging if Mission just happened to make De Koning an employee and paid him millions, outside the cap of course, only for him to request a trade to the dogs when his contract is up/ imagine Scott’s stupid smug face if the shoe was on the other foot.
That's Brisbane Lions Hall of Famer Chris Scott's stupid smug face to you. 🦁

If it was anyone else you'd have the Geelong media having a cry, then the afl would change the rules
