Play for a team that has genuine top 4 aspirations.

With Bevo you get the odd decent finals run from 5th to 8th. Then not much else.
In Bont’s career under Bevo, he’s played in two Grand Finals and won one of them. Exactly the same record as Geelong through that period.

With Chris Scott, you get top 4 aspirations. Then not much else.

Bulldogs have never finished top 4 under Bevo. They had the mega umpiring fairytale in 2016. Have only made it to the prelim stage once in the 8 seasons that have followed.

Hasn't Bont only played in 2 prelims, neither of which were in Victoria? That's not a perennial contending side.

A few more big finals at the G before he retires would be a good way to send him off.

Read my lips, “ZERO CHANCE”.

I’m not even sure Geelong is better than the Doggies.

Bont has won two prelims under Bevo. Danger has won two Prelims under Scott. I don’t think adding 5 prelim losses to Bont’s CV is the enormous incentive that you believe it to be.

You can't predetermine an outcome for what happens once you earn big MCG QF's and PF's. But you can certainly go to a club that regularly gets to that big stage. Bont has not had a single QF or PF at the G in front of 80,000+ supporters. He had the umpiring fairytale almost a decade ago, then a nice little Covid Perth run a few seasons back. Otherwise, basically no big finals. It's been a waste of his talents to be honest.

Read my lips is a really weird phrase to use when you're typing.

It was a pure hypothetical anyway.

A premiership and a prelim over the past 3 seasons compared to Bont playing a single EF loss in that time. It is a waste for such a good player. Add him into Geelong's side last year and he'd have been a two time premiership player.

You could not blame him at all for having a wandering eye to the contending clubs.

I think just about every fan in footy would take the away prelim win in 2016 over your multiple prelim losses at the G. But you do you.

By nice little Perth run, do you mean Hobart, Brisbane and Adelaide Oval?

I’ve been to 5 prelim losses at the big stage of the G in my lifetime. I didn’t leave any of those feeling like we should be envied as a contender. Quite the opposite.

Also, “contenders” usually win more than they lose over their past 20 games.

The point is he has very rarely been on the big stage in his clubs home state through his entire career. He hasn't been in a team consistent enough to finish top 4 and dominate the competition. His golden finals run came very early and since then, there was a little Covid run but that's about it.

You could not blame him at all for being envious of peers that have regularly had the chance to be on the big stage in front of 80,000+ people.

Well, you’ve actually made several points. A lot of which have been complete garbage. If it’s a bigger stage he was interested in, there are a few clubs well ahead of Geelong in that regard. Which Geelong player is he supposed to be envying?

If you say so. It doesn't have to be Geelong. I'd like to see Bont get the chance to have a run of massive MCG finals at any contending club before he retires.

Those are dangerous or famous last words friendo.

Heard it many many times that "Player won't want to play at Geelong"
Until they do lol

Jezza was a Pies supporter and picked the Cats over his favourite team.
Baz was a Hawks supporter and picked Cats over Hawks

Neither were captains of their club, and arguably their best player.

They said on Channel 7 tonight that this is the first time Melbourne have started a season 0-4 since 2012. For context, the Dees finished 16th in 2012 and only won 4 games for the whole season.

You'd have to think if the losing continues then Goodwin's days are numbered and if that happens then it's probably fair to assume they will start again by trading some of their stars while they have currency. It's a slippery slope from here for Melbourne and it's going to be really difficult to turn it around.

It’s a matter of trading the right players, and ensuring those who currently have value - remain to have value.

If you were a member of Melbourne's recruiting team, who would you trade at the end of this year and what would you try to get back in return?

He doesn’t want to be there.

In their current state, with a lot of smoke around off-field issues that I tend to believe as true considering their decline and cohesion issues.

Get rid of a couple of the more ‘unpalatable’ influences, lock the playing group in together, and yes probably a senior coach change, and I reckon he might find he likes it there.

Which peers?

Cripps, Merrett? Dangerfield who had a “neat little Covid run” & ended up with same number of flags as him anyway? He might look up to Pendlebury & Selwood but until he reaches their retirement ages he shouldn’t be envious.

Dangerfield's 2022 Covid run was fantastic wasn't it? Was it in Perth or Brisbane that year?

Check how many finals he has been able to play, including huge matches at the G, compared to Bont. After getting a flag as a youngster it has been a barren wasteland. Playing for a Marvel club that never finished top 4 and only went deep in finals twice is a waste for such a champion.

Did you ever hear that old joke about getting the Beatles back together?

I will never forget what Yoko Ono did to our wonderful world.

She single handedly spilt and destroyed the Beatles.

And to add more insult to injury. She made the World suffer more by unleashing her brand of music and albums to the world. LoL

Pfft. She didn’t do anything of the sort.

They were splitting up come hell or high water. George couldn’t stand working with the other two by that point, Lennon and McCartney disagreed on just about everything, both George and Ringo had already left at different stages.

I don’t think she helped but she isn’t ’single handedly responsible’ for them breaking up.

I reckon Keith Richards would be a better fit down there
Keith Richards has more lives than a cat. LoL

He has taken 10 times more drugs than the entire 2006 side and is still with us.

I think he is immortal. I can't wait for the scientists do an autopsy report when he is done.
