Around the mark. Was impressive when his back was stuffed to still even get on the field. Was inspirational leader in that period.
Do not think Melbourne had a better centre half forward in all the time I been following footy than G Lyon.

GARRY Lyon’s former partner has spoken on the Melbourne footy star’s affair with friend and Geelong great Billy Brownless’s ex-wife.
Melissa Lyon’s marriage with the AFL icon turned media personality broke down when it was revealed in early 2016 he was seeing Nicky Brownless. When their relationship was made public, Lyon stepped down from his co-hosting role on The Footy Show, where he worked with the former Cats star.

Speaking to the Herald Sun from New York where she is preparing to run in the famous New York City Marathon, Melissa said she knew her relationship was “destroyed” when she confronted Nicky Brownless five years ago about her relationship with the Demons legend.

“The truth is that five years ago she (Nicky) destroyed my marriage,” she told the Herald Sun. “I couldn’t believe it. It just felt so disrespectful.”

Melissa said Nicky has never apologised to her.

Harry (Soapie) Vallence 11 goals in 1931 First Semi-Final v Collingwood
Incredibly he did it again the following season.
11 goals v Collingwood in 1932 Preliminary Final.

Ron Todd did it for Collingwood in 1939

In 1951 George Goninon of Geelong kicked 11 goals against Collingwood in Second Semi-Final

Haha i retract my previous statement. Lyon was a fair player however

I would describe him as a club champion, and a very good AFL player.

His best was great, but curtailed by injuries for a a big part of his career. At his peak he was top 10 in the AFL, but that was short and lived off it for about five years after. A bit of an inbetweener player - not quite big enough for center half-forward, not quite a full forward or flanker. Could play every position on the ground besides ruck at a high level. Not very good overhead, but exceptional at reading the game and below his knees.

In modern times he would probably play on the ball with a slimmer build.

Is considered a "blokes bloke" by the Liniment sniffers like Eddie McQuire who run the AFL, so part of the clique that is the AFL boys club. Untouchable like Carey and Matthews, no matter how many assaults they do.

Very good player. Shit bloke who threw a dying man under a bus.

Pretty good and fair summation in my opinion from someone with more idea than me.

I remember watching him a lot as a kid at the MCG in the early to mid 90s, had a knack of bobbing up at the right time that so many champion players do. Was probably unlucky to have guys like Derm and the duck playing around at the same time.

Let’s not get into the whole fiasco of a few years ago that was very well swept under the carpet.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Garry’s last act in any capacity working for Melbourne FC was to hire Mark Neeld as coach (in a director of football type role?) and then slowly walked away as the club moved about 4 years in the wrong direction.

Two years ago he was Melbourne’s biggest critic in his capacity as a football analyst. Questioning their culture and leadership.

Fast forward to 2021 and he is the biggest face outside the players and coach of the Dees premiership campaign.

Have I missed something here? PR team has done an unbelievable job here to make our Garry look very good…

Nothing against GLyon, the first to cast a stone and all that. For me Barrassi is THE FOOTY LIVING LEGEND, his name, just the mention of it, connotates excellence, exuberance, success, resilience, multiculturalism, and he has more charisma than all the Old Testament religious leaders who built boats, parted seas, and attempted to murder their sons. He has 3 children, I understand, I'd get one of them to represent the GREAT MAN on the day if the Dees are fortunate enough to break their long long DRAUGHT.
