Biggest reservation I have about the showgrounds is having to traverse the river every second week for five or six months. Can they guarantee our safety?

I have survived for many years north of the river.
RNA is an easy 30 minute walk from my place though the Valley. Good times.

Springfield would require major infrastructure improvements to both public mass transit and existing road networks, as well as significant infrastructure upgrades to the Lions ground.

Honestly, it cannot be Springfield. As you said, any meaningful capacity upgrade would probably blow the cost way out past the cost of an RNA upgrade, as the infrastructure literally barely handles the current capacity. The highway grinds to a halt with events there as it is.

But they can’t not upgrade the capacity, because if they picked Springfield as it is now, they would absolutely haemorrhage members in the years they spend there.

Unless the government want to upgrade the infrastructure.

Is the Queensland Government subsidising the lost Lions income from having such a reduction in attendance numbers for the 4 years away from the Gabba? Presumably there will be a large drop in sponsors boxes as well as general attendance, and also a big drop in member numbers as they couldn't be guaranteed a seat with the reduced seating. Even if these things are subsidised it will have a significant long term impact on the Lions financial situation as it will take years to get back lost members and sponsors. Unfortunately I fear we are going to be the big losers out of the Olympics.

Unfortunately, I believe the current plan is for membership & ticket prices to be hiked to cover the difference in both the RNA and Springfield options. Would expect a 30% rise on current prices to make up for the reduced capacity.

A 30% increase in membership prices but with limited access to get into a game sounds like wishful thinking to me.Can’t see too many members going for that.

I think it's a 30% increase with guaranteed access.

If I were the Lions I would keep the 11 game member prices for everything above GA the same. I would slightly increase the 11 game basic price. I would increase the 3 game member price by 30%. If the Lions can get say 20k 11 game members at the end of this period then that would be a good aim.

Can’t see that plan blowing up in their faces at all.

Just looking at the rail capacity if games were at Brighton Home Arena.

Looking at this document Brisbane’s 6 car trains can carry 750 at a time.

Looking at this Springfield currently has a train every 9 mins in peak hour, but looking at similar lines could do every 7 mins. Or in other terms 8 trains in the hour after the final siren.

So if 8 trains can take 750 people each, the rail network could clear about 6,000 people after a game…

If Brighton Homes Arena had a capacity of 20,000 for Lions games, that’s still 14,000 who have to find some other way, such as 150 buses or some driving.

There's actually a way to make this work were you offer a second tier membership which maintains status and access to the Gabba when we return for a lesser price. Everyone stays "a member" but the costs are borne differently.

If they do that membership will plummet and a lot won't be bothered coming back.
No reason prices can't stay the same. After all the supporters are the ones being disadvantaged
Paying the same for what is likely inferior seating will be bad enough.

Different to what I have heard inside some offices inside the club. Any/All shortfalls while the Gabba is being re-developed will be subsidised by the AFL, not supporters.
Additionally, the club is proposing any home "marque" games that would have normally been sellouts to be played at the MCG or Marvel.....good news for Vic members should that happen.

Can’t see that plan blowing up in their faces at all.
Agree
BF posters are more hard on supporters and most likely say they will pay any proposed increase if it gets to that situation.
There are a lot of 50+ year old Lions members and changing things plus adding a premium will have them rethinking membership.
All AFL Lions games are broadcast live into SEQ. Easy enough to sit at home and watch.

Getting new members is hard enough for any type of football club or business.
Extremely difficult to get members that have left the club to return.
Afterall, they left for a reason.

I imagine there will be some increase on next year’s membership that reflects the increased of cost of doing business.

Honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see somewhere in the vicinity of a 10% increase.

If they charge us 10% more I want my lanyard and membership card back!

Lanyard = Meh. Membership card YES PLEASE.

Also I'd be pushing for them to bring back Bernie Gabba Vegas and the gigantic blow up Lion balloon that the players used to run up the backside of to curb the fury of the members.

While we're there, I'd like my membership pin to be made of gold. I feel that is a fair request for the 10% bump!

They should play the big games at MCG and offer FIFO memberships on a chartered members flight. Would be expensive but very cool?

If I could get a members polo with the true Brisbane Lion, not the paddlepop, I would pay more.
