Freo's New HQ

I'm just generally curious what makes Freo's new digs the best in Australia. Given that claim came from Fremantle I think it's a fair question.

Essendon for example can put this artificially turfed and high roofed inside training facility up. Most clubs including Collingwood nowadays have very similar facilities and quite a few would be level pegging. The Essendon exception is about the only one I can think off.

Also I don't know what it is about bigfooty and an inability to ask legitimate questions because of the club you support without attracting snide remarks like yours above.

Snide comments? Wouldn't have fired up if Damon didn't say it was amateur hour going with community collaborative effort. Now that's snide, just slamming Freo as an impossibility they could have done this good thing on the basis of what exactly?

The only ones asking 'Hang on, what makes this the best? Can you please state your references and where you go them from?' are Pies fans and we all know why that is.

Everyone else couldn't care less and rightly so, I mean who cares if Freo have got the best facilities yeah it's a bit of chest beating.. but the reality is that it's gone from bottom 2 quality to be right up there. It must've been a factor why somehow Freo become a magnet for the go home factor last trade period when before... it's quite obvious they were crap attracting targets.

I'll do a bit of searching on the Freo board(Cockburn firming up thread) because I recall reading a post that has attracted a fair bit of likes for detailing what makes it so great.

If you were having a crack back at Damon_3388 why not quote his post or reference him? Otherwise it comes across as having a crack at all 'pies fans posting in this thread even those genuinely interested in the reasons behind the claims like myself.

Good on Freo joining the many clubs who have updated their facilities in the last few years, but to me if you're going to declare your digs as the outright best, not just one of the best I think there needs to be something to back that up. As Eski3 said Fremantle's press release didn't really do that.

What's with Collingwood fans and the poorly disguised indignant attitude bout perhaps them not having the best training centre anymore?

Couldn't give a rat's tossbag about my club not having the best facilities, just didn't understand what this facility has that is light years ahead of everyone else. The gushing going on just seemed way overstated.

Fair play, they've got way more money and population to play with, but comparing it to the massive exclusive facilities that European football clubs or NFL teams have, and a place shared with the locals does seem a bit amateurish and small-time by comparison.

It's got this kick arse waterslide.

In terms of shared community areas there are 7 swimming areas, 1 is exclusively for freo - the other 6 both the community and Freo have the option of using.

Do you really know of any sporting club that has SEVEN different pool areas for their exlusive use?

You got a good deal because you didn't need a trophy room.

It's good and all but they have to share it with a heap of bogans, and I don't mean Ross Lyon.

Melbourne finished 4th in 1990?
Between 1950 and 1990 it was awarded to the club that performed the best across the three levels of competition; seniors, reserves and under 19s.

Looks brilliant, except the locker room is in the "away" colour scheme.

Would you want all the walls to the a deep purple? Might make the rooms feel a tad small...

The sharing of the facilities with the public, particularly the pools, makes it seem like amateur hour. I know it was probably an integral part in gaining funding for it, but yeah, just cheapens the whole thing significantly.

Not at all in my opinion. I don't mind taxpayer dollars having some community benefit. I know that funding elite sport does that too but in a more direct way here.

They won't be using the pool every hour of every day. A schedule can easily be made so they don't have to clash with the public.

It all looks fantastic from the road as you drive past. No doubt will be on par with Don's Tullamarine home..if not better.

But I'm betting all those units/apartments across the road will not like those lights on at night.

Get some heavy curtains people.

I feel like this "local club, community engagement" mindset holds AFL clubs back from developing into world-class sporting powerhouses.
That, or being a sport that is only loved by at best half of a medium sized country.

They'll fade their curtains and mess with the cows sleep!
