We are not winning a grand-final with this midfield
Not sure I saw any more than 2-3 good inside fifties all day.

The best contested marks in the AFL take it at under 30%. I imagine that number is much higher in one vs one contests but much much lower in pack situations. So why do we wait for packs to form before bombing it inside fifty. There's no honouring the leads, mostly just rain balls to packs.

I don't think our actual skill level is that bad tbh. Even the best teams in the AFL make plenty of mistakes. Not only that the majority of our list has time to improve in that area.

Again, we're aiming for 2025. Give our all under 21 forward line the chance to improve. They aren't far off currently, year or 2 will be gold.

The short sighted reactionary handwringing is embarrassing.

The clubs aim is to sin a flag by end of season 2025.

Right now it could be argued we are closer to firing the coach than contending in 25.

I agree we will benefit from another preseason or two from our young team. But, we are failing on the clubs internal goals. I would be interested to see what peoples win/loss predictions are for next season.
I want JL fired immediately.

I cannot stand this bloke, I just can't.

Agree. The best we can do is repeat our 2022 season heroics.

Finish 5th or 6th and win a memorable home final then lose the semi final away.

Just proved how good it was to win that home final last season.

Had we not won that, we could be staring down a potentially long Essendon finals win drought

****ing hell you lot are over dramatic. Anyone remember what port looked like last year?

It isn't quick, dynamic, smart or skilful enough. And Serong is very unaccountable. Probably tired after a long season but you can't have one go at it in the middle. Did someone tell him he is Nat Fyfe or something.
Serong will be AA and is one of the most accountable players in the league. He's ****ed from carrying the side most of the year. Our 2025 mid shapes to be:

Young - contested beast, reasonably quick and good skills (albeit a bit off this year)

Johnson - contested beast, breaking tackles for fun at 20. Good user of the ball and decision making. Expect to score a few to as he develops. Obviously out of gas at this stage of the year.

Serong - quick hands, good contested footy, great clearance player when protected (this is where we missed Mundy this year). Can hit the score board.

Brayshaw - one of the best two-way mids in the comp. Again missed Mundy's smarts in clearances this year. Can hit the score board and decent decision maker.

Darcy - monster, physical ruck. Good grab, decent shot on goal. Would've been handy today.

Jackson - can play anywhere, great wingspan to disrupt clearances, big unit, contested animal. Needs to improve mark, but good user of the footy.

Ras - non-stop pressure. Currently too unclean with the ball to know if he'll be a star or useful depth.

JOM - big body, above average player and user of the ball. Composed.

Unknown

Fyfe? - smart player, big enough to make life easier for the above players. Needs to learn to play within his new limits.

Plus some genuine points of difference to roll through and allow tactical changes in Aish, Switta and even NOD potentially.

Edit: forgot to add the extremely small number of games these guys have played together as a unit. Give tine for synergy to build and they'll all look better again.

I don't know about you, but that's a pretty formidable mid unit.

The Fyfe bashing is boring. He didn't play and is one of our all time great players. League wide one of the best players in the last decade and our own supporters continue to snipe.
I didn't see any Fyfe sniping there - simply that Fyfe at his best had a licence to do as he pleased.

Do you really think this with Treacy…
Yeah. I think Treacy will be one of our most important players. Almost always halves a contest, just needs to mark more and slot his goals. Oozes potential at such a young age, and is a great foil for Amiss.

Haha we won a final in 2012, 2013, 2015 as well.

So it's no where near an Essendon like drought if you take out last year.

We have won 7 finals since Essendon's last final victory in 2004.

Teams like the Demons and the Lions who are in the top 4 actually have won less finals then us since start of 2005.

Whenever we wear retro kits it always seems to bring out retro performances
Yeah 2019 vs Essendon, 2022 vs Melbourne, now this. All garbage games.

We only beat Richmond in a pretty ordinary game in 2021.

Will Brodie was a madrive part of our clearance dominance last year. they need to find a way to get him back in the team and back to his best. Jom adds very little to the team

It's too slow. They can't kick. Brayshaw can't even handball well most times. They don't kick goals. Their decision making is average. If we can improve it we should. Johnson looks ok but tries to do too much at the moment and Erasmus doesn't help with our pace or skills atm.
Young looked tired understandably but he isn't quick. All our pace is in the forwardline.

As a freo supporter, I've seen us play games like that about 500 times. If we weren't crap, we'd probably win. But just being poor in so many areas costs us. Losing the midfield for periods, they score. We get control of the game and stuff our chances. We just never seem to be consistently good enough. We have fleeting moments of 'oh, we aren't too bad' followed by just being crap again. Both in season and in games.
Aint that the truth…if we weren’t so…Freo.

sigh

Our most experienced forward all game was cox…that’s dire
It seems to be an excuse when we lose its because we are one of the youngest teams in the comp. Look out in a few years time with the young talent we have though.

But it feels like grounhog day after the past 4 years hearing similar things.

How did we get to that stage and allow it happen. The rebuild should have been close to complete now similar to Port Adelaide list and age profile.

Instead it seems we are still in the thick of a rebuild with our age profile being one of the youngest in the comp.
