Brett Peake played 75 games for Freo. I'm pretty sure we're yet to have a single academy pick reach that many games in our colours. It'd be great if our academy really was the advantage that some people claim it is, but that hasn't happened yet.

Do you rate Jaren Carr? I know he's a late pick, but do you think he's a chance to make his AFL debut next year?

Fair response lol.
If after another 15yrs Peake has played more games than any suns academy player I’ll accept your point
Wouldn’t know jaren Carr from a bar of soap but it’s great for the club to have its first dockers 100 game father son after 30 yrs.
Along with averaging over 40k home attendance 3 years in a row and being the only team in the league to not have a sub 40k home crowd in 2024 I feel freo have grown out of franchise status

Oh mate. I would love to have father-son access to players like Will/Levi Ashcroft due to father Marcus' playing days at Southport before the Bears existed or even Southport premiership player Nick Riewoldt's kids in the near future, but unfortunately our local father-son access wasn't set up the same way yours was. The only F/S prospect we have on the horizon in the next decade is Kai Rischitelli in 7 years from now and he's probably leaning towards Brisbane over us at this rate (if he's even good enough). It's entirely possible that we'll be 25+ years into our existence without a single F/S pick.

The franchise tag was really just Vics finding a way to put down a team that wasn't a part of the VFL. The sad part is supporters of other non-Vic teams have started using the franchise tag to put down newer teams like Gold Coast and GWS. Unnecessary hazing and really just a form of revenge on those who didn't inflict the original damage.

I hear ya buddy. It's a system designed by fools.

Andrew McGovern was an inaugural Docker. He was playing at Sydney prior but as soon as Gerard Neesham got on the phone he came straight over to be a part of it. He played at Freo until he retired. His sons aren't eligible as f/s's because Andrew would have had to be playing games at Freo BEFORE THEY EXISTED. I can only guess the AFL was sure time travel would be a thing by now.

Don't get me started on our first Captain, who's kids are at Collingwood and West Coast. Yes, the club's first ever Captain wasn't 'Fremantle' enough.

Freo picked their father son with the selection they needed to get him. Exactly how the system should work.

We can get rid of the ridiculous bidding system now. If you want a player - pick him.
Son and Father rule is a romantic idea, but clubs won't go out their way.

If a club wants to select their F/S, then trade up to ensure the pick. My guess they won't.

For sure Fyfe, Walters, JOM look cooked and Freo faded badly last season but they did play very young line-ups.

A lot of maturing talent across all lines. A big improver this or next season for me. Otherwise a new coach will be coming to harness the potential.

Biggest question for me - Can Darcy get into shape and avoid injuries? Not holding my breath.

That's a good test to see if they actually want the f/s or its its just around because at the top end it's such a rort its impossible to pass up.

Hmm, not sure you can complain about not having access to a bloke taken at pick 44 in the rookie draft as evidence your club's been hard done by, tbh.

It wasn't those players that cost the side, it was that our ball movement control between the arcs fell apart when our best defensive player (spoiling opposition marks between the arcs) Alex Pearce went down and then our best offensive player (taking marks between the arcs) Josh Treacy went down.

The replacements in Draper and Voss couldn't spoil or mark except for one game each, Draper's was against Sydney and Voss was late in the season.

It meant our ball movement forward was bad but worse was that our ability to slow down opposition field position and set up the team defense ahead of them falls apart - as does every team when they cough up marks between the arcs.
