Re: Favre Finished with Football...

He's just going to break down again, although that still might be a better option than Rosenfels or Jackson sadly enough. So it's easy to see why the Viking went for him.

As much as I'm sick of him, got to be curious to see how he goes as entertainment value, just watch him break down in the second half season like he did for us. Enjoy the INT's. :p

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

The Vikings will like it purely from the merchandise sales. The same thing happened this time last year - it is amazing how quickly they have not only his jersey available, but other apparel.

2 years - he won't last that long.

There is another weekend of preseason games to focus on - the over the top coverage of Favre is both funny and tragic.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

Brett Favre would be one of my favourite alltime non-Giants players.(Ronnie Lott is my alltime favourite non-Giants player.) I was really hoping Brett would stay retired. But it seems he is having trouble letting it go.

I guess it's exciting for the Vikes, he is an upgrade, and if he can display any sort of form they really have a shot at the Championship.

But really, it's not like they're getting a mid90s Favre. Or even an early 2000s Favre. The big question is whether his body can hold up to another season. I'm hoping it can because I'd hate to see him go out like Dan Marino did. Marino's last season was unfortunate. It's awful watching a great player struggle.

I'll be looking forward to the Vikes-Packers game. Those should be good fun.

Good luck Brett.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

Oh dear.
The QB mess in Minny is still a massive mess. Farve is a very fragile old man and his glorious end to his NYJ days is example of that. Yes he has ticker and a winning mentality but even he has admit that his performance isnt going to be anywhere near his best.

Minny does not need a superstar QB. Minny doesnt need a liability media circus under centre either. Sage has his limitations but he is tough and can hold his end in the team.

But time will tell.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

Book it....Favre to cause the Vikes to free fall to a screaming ball of flames by 3/4's of the way thru the season. His operated on arm wont hold up. Not to mention his high intercept rate and selfish QBing.

With or without Favre, you can bet your life on that happening. Da Queens have a habit of falling in a heap when the expectations are high...

As (I think Woodson) said, his return to Green Bay will be preceded by games against Baltimore and Pittsburgh, so I'm not even sure he'll make it back. He's had some shockers in the state of Minnesota also, so it doesn't bode well for this season.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

You have to feel sorry for Rosenfels. Was wanting the Vikings trade because it was a situation where he felt he would start. Got the trade and the QB job, then an almost 40 year old with a busted shoulder who hasn't done a training camp comes in, gets a 25m 2 year contract and takes his job.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

As a long time Pack fan I for one am not impressed with BF's antics. Hope the Vikes fall to the bottom of the heap. I note that he has signed a two year deal with the Vikes as well. Brett is definitely in the process of trashing his legacy and many Packers' fans in the US are very pee'd off with him.

Luckily, or unluckily, I have a ticket for the game in Green Bay in early November - booked long before the whole circus began, I might add. Should be a massive game - I can't wait to hear the reception Brett gets. The Packers' fans are crazy at the best of times, so it will be very interesting to be there.:D

This will be my third game of Packers v Vikes (also went and saw the Pack v Jets a few years ago when Benny Graham was playing for the Jets. Not a good day in the office for the Pack that game.) I can only hope that the Pack play a blinder and Aaron Rogers performs really well as the QB.:thumbsu:

I'm so sick of all this panty waste, cry baby talk. The guy isn't sitting somewhere in front of a shrine to the Packers asking you permission to play football. Who gives a shit if he played for the Packers. The Packers are the ones that wouldn't take him back. Last year this guy wants to play for his team, his team wouldn't have him, and so he goes to the Jets. This year he goes to the Vikings, and so now all those Packers fans that didn't want him are now talking about betrayal. You are all so full of shit it's not funny. Get the frack over it. It's a business. This isn't like your star QB skipping town for your rival in college ball.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

Actually, Green Bay asked him back many times pre draft - Each and every time he said 'I am done with football' and they moved on. Then Favre changes his mind. You can't blame the Packers for not saying yes to allow him back. The guy will do anything to avoud training camp/preseason, which he friggin' needs when he joins a new team.

The guy is a joke tbh. We know its just a song and dance now for attention, pure and simple.

You're so caught up in Green Bay hysteria you can't see the forest for the trees. This happens all the time. Camp hold outs, free agent hold outs, etc happen every freaking year man. You recall that stuff happens after the draft right? The draft angle is a PR move by the Packers. And just like their faithful in the "great white north" you've sucked it up with a straw.
"Oh me, oh my. We just can't decide to keep a 13-3 QB over some hack that's never started a game because he didn't tell us prior to the draft." Yep, poor Green Bay, they just couldn't bring him back because he waited till after the draft.
They had "moved on" right? Changed the way they would strategize under a new QB. Believe that one too? Is that why he was able to walk into two other systems without a hitch?
I've got some beach front property in Atlanta to sell you.

I wasn't commenting on whether I am okay or not okay with it. If he wants to play football, he can.

But don't go and turn this on the Packers organisation when he ****ed around with them as long as possible, and when the team told him to piss off, he got all pouty. I couldn't give a damn about the Packers, but its obvious that Favre was having a massive sook when he didn't get his way, it was pretty funny actually.

He said he is done, and you blame the Packers for moving on post draft? The same draft where they used 2 picks to get backup QBs? I am sure they are more than happy with their decision too... If they were confident in Rodgers, wouldn't you prefer him over a 38 year old self obsessed wank? When he throws a game losing pick in OT @ home against a vast underdog opponent, you sort of forget that he had a decent year. Add in the previous facts that the guy told them and the world he is retiring, 38 YO and you have who you believe to be a capable replacement, I would tell him to **** off if he asked back in as well.

The guy has been doing the same song and dance for years. I'm fine with him wanting to play football, but don't **** around with the teams in the process simply because you're a lazy **** (That goes for Minny as well). It wasn't about money, like normal holdouts are, it was about him wanting attention, and him wanting to avoid as much work was possible. It pissed me off to high hell with Strahan, so don't expect any other player to get special treatment based on name alone.

Pre his 07 season, Favre was stinking up the join big time, years of 18-18, 20-29. He was hardly playing good football. They didn't want to change the system, but why **** with Rodgers any longer? Last year he was hardly a stunner either... 22-22 with a 6.5 ypa total. Take away a single game (vs Zona) and those stats look much much worse. But of course he 'slid right in'.

He's an attention seeker, and after he finally retires, unfortunately I am 99% sure we will still see his mug every few weeks. Stop having a sook when people call him what he is... A douche :) That has nothing to do with the Packers or anything. I think he has proven that fact himself.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

Stop having a sook

Stop using crazy Australian words on me you chuzzwuzza! Look I am by no means a Favre apologist. The "wake up Monday I wanna play, wake up Tuesday I should retire" thing is old hat and is irritating. But it's his career, so whatever. What I'm irritated by are the fans that could care less about him, and now suddenly have an opinion when he joins a team in the Packers division. Both the Packers and Favre were at fault. There wasn't one side that has total blame.
I hope the guy has a fantastic season, and someones starting QB has a non-career ending injury and I get to pawn off a lousy late round pick for a stud. That's where my head is at, take that how you will.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

Farve will be good if not great for the Vikings (ahahha Travaris we hardly knew the). I think by no means will this be good for Farve. He will play as bad if not worse then on the Jet's and if he gets hit his old bones may break which is not good if your any QB in the NFC North.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

Since the Favre signing:

The odds in Vegas for the Vikings to win the Super Bowl has decreased from 24-1 to 12-1

3200 additional season tickets were sold.

11,000 single game tickets were sold.

Seats for the game against Green Bay on Oct. 5 are only available through a season ticket. There are roughly 6,000 season tickets remaining.

200,000 people bought Favre’s Jets jersey last year, and the demand for the Vikings version figures to be even higher.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

All i can say is thank **** that he's signed a 2 year contract so we don't have to put up with all the will-he won't he bullshit next off season...hopefully.
Like a big baby , just can't bring himself to not starting a season.
You just don't improve at 40 and the Favre of last season needs improving.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

Having an arm thats not falling off would be an improvement.

Meanwhile, the vikings dont need a signficant improvement out of favre, or for him to do anything special at all. Just his name being on the field changes the way the defense will play, and opens peterson something.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

Maybe Favre of a few years back. This is guy who just a couple of weeks ago said he didn't think his body could get through another season.

As for his torn biceps, it was either crap or he was too selfish to step aside and not play (as he should have with such a severe injury). Cost the Jets big time. what was it 1 TD and 10 ints in the last month.

Decides to skip camp again and who knows what sort of tension it will bring to the locker room. If I was Rosenfels (or Tavaris) i'd demand a trade.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

2-8 in the last month :p But yeah still average football by any means.

Take away the Zona game and he has 10-11 in the first 10 weeks. And the SD final stats are hardly indicative of how he played, 2 TDs in the final quarter when they were behind 38-17 after the 3rd.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

dunno what some of you are on. favre had the Jets on 8-3 and firing on all cylinders until his biceps began impacting on his play. he had to learn a new system, and the Jets didnt have the same personnel the vikings do.

but now, favre will be walking into a system that he can run blindfolded, and everything is in place for minnesota to go deep into january in 2010, perhaps february. they have one of the best running games in the league, now they can compliment this with a passer who can make plays. it'll be intriging to watch what opposition defenses do now against the vikings. they were guaranteed to have 8 in the box before.

there's no doubt the vikings d were the more dominant unit in '08. the d-line remains in tact and barring injury, the williams duo will play more games. compliment this with a very good secondary, and we have a competitive team all round.

NFL contracts are as reliable as blowing your nose with a leaf.

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

Favre did? 1424 yards/13 rushing TDs in the first 11 suggests otherwise... Of course you will say that Favre goes a long way to 'freeing up the running game' despite the Oline performing extremely well, but in the end he didn't hold up his side of the bargain, losing more games than winning for you and playing generally average football.

His first 8 games he was 15-12 TD/INT. 6 TDs came in one game, where the D forced 7 turnovers.

Favre won't win them games. Chances are if they do go deep he throw an INT in OT to lose them the game. There is an ever greater chance that he performs terribly after getting injured earlier in the year.

Either way, fun article :p

Re: Favre Finished with Football...

Favre to the Vikes is amazing news for Bears and Packers fans

Dude is garbage now, led the league last year in INTS when leading or scores tied. Lovie Smith owns Favre, Favre will send our whole secondary to the Pro Bowl off 2 games.

Bears run the division now. Thanks heaps Viqueens
