Fall and Fall of Big Bash

Why can't they give these leagues proper names? People than might actually take them more serious instead of just hits and giggles taking the piss leagues.

Or at least add the country name into it:
  • Austrian BBL
  • English Blast
  • NZ Super Smash

That would help make things less confusing and more identifiable

When shit like David, Hales, DreRus, M.Short, D.Short, Lynn etc etc. have been the drawcards over many iterations of this competition it just shows how crap T20 really is. The last two being the most overrated cricketers in Aus.

It's depressing when commentators start running down the list of the best internationals in the competition.

It's not quite a murderer's row of global T20 superstars.

Exactly, it’s the lack of quality or star power. Who is going to go see Cooper Connolly and Adam Milne?

17,000 at the G last night, be 90,000+ at the test match next week. It’s clear which format is still no1 in Australia.
Probably couldn’t have picked a worse example than Cooper. On his way to becoming a cult hero here, helped win a BBL title as a 19-year-old, already played for Australia and only 21, and will probably play for Australia for years to come.

One is a Domestic competition, the other is an International game.
Last year's BBL Boxing Day got 50k, pretty solid for a domestic game.

Exactly.
My under 12 year old girls followed the Australian side for the first time this year because Cooper was playing.
He's a huge name amongst the young, future followers of the game.
Someone putting down Connelly to promote Test Cricket is straight up laughable.

Folk saying "hits and giggles" like it's 5 prime ministers ago are unlikely to care about a name change

I think some teams have worked out the best way to build your roster.

My example Is JFM, stats wise he isn't actually that good. Av of 18. SR 125 after 34 innings. That's a fair few games.

But everyone is in love with him.

There would be a bunch of other players, Australian or Overseas that stat's wise would be a better option and more consistent over a season.

I guess what works better for your team, Big Names or a winning season? I think in Australia we still prefer winners.

Perth got it right. Good T20 players both here and from overseas. I don't recall them having huge names and those overseas players often play most of the season. Also keep a few locals.

Anyway what I'm trying to say is there is a little bit of planning and science to building your roster. Not just throwing it together.

Might be too late to change the name to somthing more professional sounding. BBL is its own brand now.

No one really calls it Big Bash League. It's just BBL.

So far this season has been pretty entertaining. High scores. Geelong game not included LOL. Heap of wickets, close finishes, good crowds.

Have whinged about this before but get the match done in 3 hrs or start it earlier and have it finish no later than 945-10pm. If you want crowds, particularly outside the christmas holiday period its got to end at a more reasonable hour.
they need to satisfy the broadcasters. I doubt they would want games starting at 6pm (unless there is a weekend doubleheader).

The atmosphere is great if you have family or kids. I went down to Geelong for my first ever game and Im going to the Marvel in Docklands for the first time of cricket there today. Super excited as non-Victorian.

Whilst people can giggle at the standards and to be honest its probably now on par but I wouldnt say its a clear better comp than SA20, Hundred and even ILT20. SA20, Hundred and BBL have good atmospheres all around.

Actually got him confused with the other dud West Australian spinner playing for the Stars, got a similar stupid name.
