It is more about not letting your rival team get the extra point. With teams at the front the extra point isn't going to make a difference but the midfield and back markers that extra point (or even not letting a rival team get it) can be crucial.

Was it Oscar? I thought it was one of the back markers that had boxed at some stage.
I thought it was Oscar, but I could be wrong. Not 100% certain about it.

If it was a backmarker, then it makes no sense for Mercedes to be taking the point away - as the bonus point is only awarded if the driver finishes in the top-10.

Pretty sure they did it so they could take a point off the other team that had it, just can't remember which team that was.
From a mercedes perspective it was 100% viable gained them an extra point with no care who of their drivers finished ahead.

I only mentioned it because hamilton come out after monaco qually essentially saying the teams handicapping him to win george their h2h when they sacrificed that head to head record the week before for 1 point.

Is the point only for the driver? Or for the team as well?
A team point might be more valuable than a driver point.

I kinda feel for Ocon, because whilst he has a lengthy history of collisions with teammates, they are certainly not all his fault. Unfortunately for him, he's the common denominator, and so he's attracted the wrong of attention. It is said that the decision to leave Alpine was mutual, but it begs the question of where he goes next.

Is he still technically a Mercedes contracted driver ?

Not sure it would be a good idea putting him and George together....

I don't know, but I suspect Mercedes might not want him anyway, he's not been a bad racer, but has he lived up to expectations? Has he done enough to warrant going to a quicker team? I'm not sure he has.
